Tairua Beach House

The view from outside is beautiful but we saw a rat and cockroaches in the kitchen. Many workers were on site, the atmosphere was not so nice.

I really wouldn’t recommend staying at the Beach House Backpackers Hostel. At 6:20 in the morning, the fire alarm suddenly went off and kept ringing for about 20 minutes with no explanation from the staff. Needless to say, everyone was wide awake after that. The place was very dirty overall. The worst part was seeing a rat running around the kitchen/dining area, helping itself to other guests’ food. The whole place felt unclean and poorly maintained. Arrived and the host was very nosy about our plans, way too interested in our plans and very judging. Lots of longterm guests and overall place stank. Felt a bit dark and scummy, bathrooms had hairs all over the place and the rooms didn't feel clean. Out of city center as well, fine for a night if you want to go to cathedral cove but thats all.

Sharon is absolutely lovely and really accommodating as a host. The property did feel a bit tired and it wasn’t the cleanest, the walls are also very thin so it’s not the easiest to sleep if there are loud guests. However, the garden is great to relax in and you can see how hard Sharon and the staff are working to maintain the property and provide a good stay.

Die Betten waren teilweise bequem, die Mitarbeiter sehr nett. Die Bäder waren sauber, die Küche auch einigermaßen. Die Sitzgelegenheiten waren jedoch etwas dreckig. Draußen ist es sehr schön, es gibt eine Veranda und man hat einen schönen Ausblick.

It's a decent Hostel

Nice staff and location. No location to lock valuables. Toilets and showers were quite dirty, mud on walls, spider webs in corners and behind the doors. Appeared that multiple individuals were living at the hostel long term.

Private room had not been vacuumed or mopped, someone else’s mess in the shower, hair in the sink, tap leaked. Room had nice view, door locked, bed was comfy. Many men living there. Dorm looked nice, clean and cozy. Women’s toilet had sign on the door “Staff only keep out” which the owner said was “because of the island boys,” I’m not sure what he meant. Didn’t feel safe. Smoke alarm went off at 5 am and most residents didn’t react, as though it happens all the time. Cool skate...

There are a lot of long term residents here from the Solomon Islands working on farms but they were much more sociable than other hostels I’ve been to with mostly European long term residents doing farm work who tend not to be very sociable with actual backpackers. It’s a more traditional hostel with basic facilities which are a bit dated now but generally kept clean.

The room was clean enough and we lucked out in that our room had a toilet, although it always ran so we kept turning the water off to avoid the noise. Notre séjour s'est très bien passé, la vue de l'auberge est vraiment incroyable ! La cuisine est très bien équipée notamment avec des cuiseurs à riz. L'hôte est vraiment gentille ce qui est très appréciable :)

Nice quiet stay. Comfortable beds, nice big kitchen, a bit away from town but still walkable.

The service of the staff was absolutely top notch and they were also very friendly!

Homely atmosphere with plenty of nice open spaces. Only 25 min drive to tourist hotspots like the cathedral cove and hot water beach!

Really lovely location! It was easy to walk into town, but also really great to lounge in the back yard area. Quiet, peaceful, great views

Super fijn hostel! Met lieve eigenaren, die je bij naar kennen. Huiselijke sfeer waardoor je snel op je gemak bent.

Man hat sich so willkommen gefühlt es war einfach nur super!

While family with baby were lovely, the kid was full on and noisy the night I stayed. Also had to endure ringing of bells from their room upstairs... Had another guy talking non stop on his laptop till 11pm at night we could hear through the thin walls.. Dirty bucket of water left in womens shower for 2 days not great... Lovely location however and backyard superb. Friendly/helpful genuine staff that new hot spots to visit in the area. Refreshing to have staff promoting our beautiful Aotea...

Beautiful Hostel, superb environment & exceptional host 🌞

Relaxing place to stay. Plenty of common space, people were nice. owners met me in person. Bed is comfortable. Only downside might be lack of lockers in dormitory. For it was not a problem because I stayed alone in the room.

Great place to stay, very friendly people and a beautiful view.

Staff were amazing, so welcoming and genuine. Great atmosphere amongst guests.
