Dar Hkaiem

I came in March- which is a little quiet a season so didn’t really meet anyone else whilst there. It’s a lovely little place in a very local area about 10-15 mins taxi from central Sousse. Super easy to get to, though there’s not loads around there. Actual place is great and the staff were all SO LOVELY and super helpful all the time, so made it absolutely worth it!

The place to stay is very beautiful. Nice house and you can feel that the owner put a lot of effort in it. It also has everything you need shower, kitchen, including a nice courtyard. However the location is not in Sousse, so you need public transportation or taxi to get around. Do not go on a tour with the owner. It is too expensive and not good. He was very pushy to do it. It almost felt like a 'scam'. This left a bitter taste for me in the end unfortunately.

Dar Hkaiem should be your base during your visits around Tunisia, it has good access to trains and taxis. Also feels very secured if you are solo traveller. The host was extremely friendly and polite. He joined us and guide us for multiple trips and help us through renting car , SIM card and planning the tour. If you looking for a full travel pack experience you should visit The house of Hkaiem :) Thank you TuTu for your hospitality. Hope see you soon!

A quiet hostel in a clean and safe neighborhood. Abrar is very helpful and friendly. Since it was Ramadan and almost everywhere was closed, She called a few restaurants around so I could break my fast. Thanks

This is a perfect place to stay to explore Tunisia with easy access to several places. Tou Tou the host is a wonderful man, very caring and friendly. Would recommend to anyone ☺️

By far the highlight of our Tunisia trip! If you are staying in Sousse, Dar Hkaïem is a must! Toutou is the best host, an amazing chef and adds so much culture and life to the experience. We enjoyed the breakfasts and learned so much on the walking tour. We hope to return soon or welcome him elsewhere :)

I cannot fault this place nor Toutou - he is the sweetest, caring, most excellent host you could possibly find. From the moment I arrived he made me feel at home, he organises walking tours for guests around town and shows you all the best things (including food). Toutou also makes a mean coffee, and make sure to try the Harissa with his breakfast! You’ll find so much more than a place to sleep here. I wish I could have stayed longer. Toutou thank you for everything!

Great stay. Host is very kind and will give you recommendations on what to do. Easy to get to with louage system. Only place to stay if visiting Sousse

A great spot to hang in Hammam-Sousse. It's a bus ride away from the Medina, but the neighborhood is very authentic & just real Tunisian life. I felt very safe. The breakfast is incredible. It's a small hostel (4 rooms) so it's hit or miss whether you'll meet anyone, but I got lucky and hung out with Dutch girl the whole time. The room & facilities are clean and comfortable. Would recommend!

Don’t look further, just book here. Don’t expect a luxerious hotel with an olympic sized swimming pool, but a clean room, a friendly host and a good chance to meet like-minded travellers. You stay in an authentic neighboorhood, where people welcome you. At night the place comes to life in the small streets with the white houses, shops and the mosque. As if you travel back in time to a place where people know and help each other.

We had such a good time the hostel. Toutou was so lovely and helpful. He even took us to a weeding of his friends. I would totally recommend the place.

Toutou was really welcoming and made you feel like you are at home. The room and all the areas were clean and cozy.

This place felt truly addicting to me. I originally came for just one night, but I found peace, great company, and ended up staying for 10. Majdi himself was a traveler, and his passion for traveling inspired him to open this hostel — you can really feel those travel vibes here. Thank you for all your effort and for sharing your stories. Toutou was an amazing and welcoming host. He was very helpful for any trips about the area and Tunisia and showed us around town. The place itself is very good value for money. The rooms are very clean. Overall highly recommend!

Probably my best stay in North Africa! The property is comfortable and full of charm with all the facilities you might want. Toutou is a great host. Even though he was away for a wedding for most of my stay he was always contactable, providing great service with a personal touch. Don't sleep on his breakfasts either!

Our stay in Dar Hkaiem was great and a lot of that is thanks to the host Toutou. The hostel itself is very clean and the rooms are lovely. For the location, we had a rental car, so it was easy to reach. It might be a bit further away from Sousse than you think, especially if that is your initial destination. But it is located in Hammam Sousse which is a very nice town itself, especially after getting a free walking tour from Toutou. I can only recommend this hostel to everybody!

Der Aufenthalt beim Dar Hkaim war super. Der Besitzer Majdi war sehr nett und hilfsbereit, er hat uns viele Empfehlungen vor Ort und für unsere weitere Reise in Tunesien gegeben. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker und hatte auch vegane Optionen. Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber und unser Zimmer war super ausgestattet vor allem dass es eine Klimaanlage gab haben wir sehr geschätzt.

This was a really lovely stay and I would strongly recommend it. It is small yet has the passion and vibe of a typical hostel. It is very clean and the staff are excellent, especially the owner. Words cannot describe how lovely this place is and how great a base it is to explore Sousse and the surrounding areas.
