Riverside Garden Hostel

My worst hostel in Laos. I paid 110,000 kip one night. When I asked to extend my stay, they now wanted 130,000 kip. My bed was a stack of foam mattresses, and the one below was torn apart. The rooms were completely neglected. I've rarely noticed such a stench of urine and feces.

Picture this: you’ve heard great reviews and book this hostel. Instead, you’re hit with the stench of unwashed cheesy feet. The bathrooms? Criminal. The pool? A soundtrack of debilitating heavy techno blasting all day & night. Overall, I enjoyed my stay however there are some areas for improvement. The property was dirty and some things were broken (.eg. Night lamp). Despite advertising a free breakfast , breakfast was not included in my booking. The property is in a great location and near local amenities. The area is very noisy until midnight.

Not very clean or hygienic in my opinion. I saw pieces of food debris strewn all over the property. The music was too loud and didn’t like farm animals wandering the property either. The water from the shower was cold, the bathrooms had no soap and it didn’t have a pleasant atmosphere.

Er liepen veel insecten door onze kamer. De deur sloot slecht. In de drie dagen is onze kamer niet verschoond. Op de derde dag vroegen wij of we schone handdoeken mochten. Dat wilden ze in rekening brengen. Daar waren we het niet mee eens, uiteindelijk toch gratis gekregen. Zwembad zag er erg vies uit, troebel laagje en veel insecten in het zwembad. De pooltafels zijn zwaar verouderd waardoor een normaal potje vrijwel onmogelijk is. Erg jammer, wij hadden voor het geld meer verwacht!

i went to this Hostel for the review which was most of them positive! i don t know what is wrong niw, but the hostel is very dirty, not maintenance at all, toilette not cleaned and hygenized.

On the surface, everything looks ok but neither the owner or staff are to be trusted. Please, go somewhere else. All of my friends thought the same.

The pro of this hostel is the nice and helpful staff. It’s also in a good location. But goodness was this a tough one. Completely infested with mosquitoes and no hand soap in the bathroom the entire 5 nights I was there. The place gets the job done for a place to stay but wasn’t nice.

Lots of outdoor space, the vibe is very peaceful and relaxing. The pool is large and has a great view of the river and mountains. When I stayed there were very few guests so it felt quiet but I was still happy there. Bedroom had good AC and plenty of space. Normal for Asia, the shower and toilet are in the same space but the drain is far from where the shower is positioned so water covers most of the floor after the shower is used. If they could provide something in the bathroom to sweep away!

Prima hostel. De hostel heeft veel potentieel om sociaal te zijn maar toen ik er was was het eerder rustig. Er zijn genoeg voorzieningen maar niet elke kamer is voorzien van lockers en qua onderhoud kon het ook wat beter. Er was vaak geen toiletpapier. Het personeel is wel heel vriendelijk en het inbegrepen ontbijt is top! Je kan ook fietsen of scooters huren. Locatie is top!

I enjoyed my stay here. Breakfast every morning was good. The pool is open 24/7 so I enjoyed a late night dip, which I think is really cool :) Rooms were also fine. Staff was friendly and helpful.

the hostel was ok , it did the job , the beds were comfy and breakfast was nice . it is not a party hostel as descibed , there is no atmosphere and it generally felt quite run down

the beds were comfy and clean, and the free breakfast was defo a bonus. i would have scored this higher however my trainers got stolen from right out side my room so i would be careful leaving shoes outside there is cctv but the staff we not very helpful in sorting the situation out so had to give it a lower review

Pros: Social hostel, pool with a great view, central location. Cons: Rooms are not pleasant. Lockers are not useable. Generally scruffy around the edges with stained sheets. WATCH OUT: The owner / says to book the paramotoring through him to ensure it is a safe provider. He will show you two very highly rated providers (Amazing Vang Vieng & SAOMANGKONG). Neither of these providers work with him. It sees he is sending you to a friend with much worse reviews. Best to book direct!

A lot of ants but they let me change to a different room. You get what you pay for type of vibe but I loved my stay. The staff was so lovely, pool was nice with the best view and the property was overall nice garden-like getaway although it was very close to the city centre. Definitely recommend!

High key think this hostel is great! It is so nice to relax by the pool and the views of the sunset are unmatched. Really nice breakfast and even provide a shuttle bus to the train station. If they ran social activities and it had a bit of a deeper clean it would be a 10/10

Staff is lovely and helped out when I was unwell. Property is very run down, and a massive place with not very many people meant it was a bit dead. There are lots of bugs and ants, especially dead ones in corners of the room. The whole place needs a bit of a revamp, but the staff are super lovely!

Great pool with fantastic views and very clean. Lots of places to sit and chill around the hostel. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast included was super convenient.

The hostel has a great location and pool area! Breakfast was also good! However it didn’t really have any social activities, you really had to make an effort to meet people

Changed our first room as bedsheets were stained and room was very cramped. Staff were very nice and helpful at accomadating us and with booking the paramotoring. Is a funny atmosphere and feels like a campsite as very spread out and in with the nature

Stayed in private room with en-suite. Hostel is over a bridge from the main road. Nice outside pool area with a view of the mountains and river. The room wasn't the cleanest but the bed was comfortable with a fridge and kettle in the room. Great location and good overall.

We booked and paid extra for the daily ‘free’ breakfast we didn’t get it, they still wanted to charge us even after we showed them our booking they also charged us for having dirty towels when we left but they were only dirty from using them next to the pool at the hostel which 100% would have washed out

Nice place, simple private room but good

Ok hostel - rooms dated and not the nicest. Ants everywhere in the communal showers and toilets! Worst i’ve seen in SE asia. Toilets useable due to the amount of ants. Pool ok but lots of dead flies. Staff very nice and free breakfast was good

The private room we had was okay, but a bit outdated. Free breakfast was alright but the guy that served it to us stuck his finger to get what I’m assuming was a bug which flew into it out of the food before he put it down which kinda put me off. Not a very social hostel but good location

Good place. Also, the river tubing ends here so convenient. If this place had a gym as well it would be perfect.
