When in Athens Hostel

Hands down the most professional hostel I’ve ever stayed in. It was my second time here after three years and I was pleasant surprise how much improvement I noticed this time around (and my first stay here was already amazing!). From having a solution to prevent bed bugs (they disinfect your luggage when you checkin), to top tier cleaning, air conditioning, a group chat, discount at the next door restaurant, the staff’s sympathy, etc. When in Athens is THE hostel I’ll always book when I come back to Athens. I know here I’ll have great value for my money. Thank you for helping make my second stay in Athens as impactful as the first time.

Nice place to stay. The staff is friendly. It’s very clean. In fact, they will spray your bags for bedbugs! They do not give you a towel - you need to rent one. That’s the first hostel I’ve stayed in where they did that, so it was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. Location is ok. It’s a 10-15 minute walk from the train station.

Great hostel with a chill vibe. It is super clean and they make sure to steam bags to prevent bed bugs becoming a problem. Decent chill zone downstairs and a courtyard. The staff were very approachable and friendly. The neighbourhood was interesting and I felt very safe. I found this hostel to be great for more mature people (not into the party vibe). It was exactly what I was looking for.

Reply to the reply of Management below: first, I did not claim a "significant" compensation as you mentioned but a fair one, second, as I said below the email text did not sound original but a chatgpt-written, so it did not sound credible to me (I apologize for not believing you). Now the reply below does look authentic and I hope you really checked all like you said and found nothing. I felt the bites during my stay but - like you - did not suspect the bugs at all. There is no full size mirror in the bathroom to see it neither and sorry the bites are on the low-back and legs below so i cannot see it myself, also allergy sometimes does not appear immediately (again google search). Mine worsened later. What can be of course, is that the chair in a restaurant we went to eat was infested. I read this happened in at least two restaurants in Athens this year. If I am wrong, i apologize for the accusation. I also take this matter seriously not only for my own sake but also for the others. ------- Original text: I would have given 5 stars if not my suspicion of bed bugs ((( The hostel looks impressive and very clean, the linen is crispy, but on the two nights I spent in the place I was terribly bitten by bed bugs. They actually steam the bags of tourists upon arrival but only on the surface. Probably I was the only unlucky person to pick the infested bed. One week later I still have huge surface of my skin full of itchy bite marks - this is not nice if you are on vacation. And those are definitely not mosquitoes or spiders!! Also after coming home I needed to quarantine all my stuff, which is really annoying. Management replied to me in a lengthy email (looks like chatgpt-written), where they claim they checked the bed and found nothing. This is an assumption as I did not check the mattress myself - I felt itchy but did not realize it until a friend saw the marks next day - but I didn't stay anywhere else before it happened (even not in a taxi). The 4-beds room is tiny - almost no place for bags, it did not annoy me much though. On my first day shower on the 2nd floor was having only cold water - after I complained at the reception they could fix it. Aircon is centrally regulated from reception - I had to stand up 3 times at night from my upper bed and ask them to modify the settings - it was blowing cold air. And some of my roomies started to caugh during the night probably due to it. To top it all it was a very noisy place to stay overnight (slamming the doors, especially when the lock jammed, packing/unpacking at 4 a.m.) - which is not the fault of the hostel, but respectless behaviour of the guests. As for the employees, they are very friendly and helpful.

Very good hostel! Everything is super clean, the staff is very kind and helpful. I felt safe and welcome, and the city centre is at a walking distance, or buses can take you there. They are very careful with bedbugs and steam your stuff before entrance, which I really appreciated!

Really great hostel! I was checking out hostels in Athens and every single one had reviews mentioning bed bugs, luckily I came upon this one where people mentioned that your luggage is steamed before entering the rooms and there were no complaints. The hostel was super clean, the staff were amazingly kind and I loved the location, the neighborhood would awaken late afternoon with a lot of cute bars and restaurants. Also not far from the centre, and close to the metro. Really recommend!

Staff are super nice. Hotel is very clean. They steak your luggage to prevent bedbugs ( which is a slight con because it means the sound of the steamer going in the night as people arrive can wake you up) but I’m glad they do it. Location is near a metro station and a restaurant with 10% off next door. Definitely would stay again.

this hostel is amazing. It has a very beautiful structure and it's located in one of my favourite areas of the city. The guy at the desk was very nice and also if i was there for one night I was able to hang out with some guys I met there. They also used a vaporizer on my baggage when i arrived to avoid bed bugs, which I appreciated a lot cause it is a problem in Greece I think. Rooms were really clean. My bed on the top was shaky and the stair was uncomfortable to go up. but I slept so well!!

This hostel understands the needs of tired travelers! In the room is air conditioner & everything is super clean! At check in they dry steam your stuff against bed bugs! The staff is friendly and ready to help you out! Overall one of the better hostels 🫶🏼

It's a great hostel and I totally recommend it. The facilities were great, staff are very friendly and helpful with information. It has a fully equipped kitchen and a really nice common room. One of the first things they do is use a steamer on your luggage to kill any bed bugs, I really appreciated that.
