Howzit Hostels Hawaii

this was an extremely gross property! literal cockroaches in the dorm, which isn't surprising when you see the fridge and the amount of crumbs in every seat! I did not really talk to the staff (nor saw them aside from cooking pancakes for breakfast and check-in). and for a youth hostel- they were letting a LOT of very old travelers reserve. definitely would not recommend this hostel.(they also seemed aware and unconcerned about to roach problem)

I stayed here for 1 night and I’m glad it was just that. It was doable for 1 night but anything longer I wouldn’t recommend. I didn’t feel the safest in Hilo in general. I didn’t want to leave my car parked. Security at the hostel is great. Staff is super nice and awesome. The hostel is dirty and there were a bunch of cockroaches in my room.

Bequeme, saubere Betten, mit Vorhang und kleinem Licht! Die Küche war nicht wirklich sauber. Es gab auch nicht viel Besteck oder anderes Geschirr. Es war aber genug für kleine, schnelle Mahlzeiten. Der große Empfangs-/Wohnraum ist gemütlich, aber nicht super sauber. Man steht nirgends oder abends direkt vor allen Leuten, wenn man ins Bad möchte, weil alle Räume davon abgehen. Gratis Pancakes und Kaffee morgens! Lage gut, Parkplatz nah.

This hostel would be perfect…everything is great the staff the cleanliness, location…however no Air Conditioning… I’m not sure what the reason is for this as the other Howitz location have. The fact that this one is located in a hot humid rainforest defeats me. The beds are in metal cubes as well, was a very sweaty sleep lol. Get some AC up in there and it’s 10/10

Ein super Hostel! Sehr sauber und nette Mitarbeiter. Was mich immer in Hostels und Hotels stört ist zu wenige Hacken und Ablagemöglichkeiten im Badezimmer. Ich habe für zwei Tage verkürzt (storniert und wieder gebucht) Leider habe ich hier kein Geld rausbekommen. Aber das liegt an Hostelworld und nicht am Hostel.

Dormitories are very spacious and well formed, kitchen is large too. Negative points: General atmosphere is cold, no good vibe in the hostel Activities unfortunately cancelled for 10 days in a row because the driver was sick. Services such as pancakes are sometimes finished 20 minutes before the indicated time or only working for 30 minutes instead of 2 hours, random. Dormitories quite noisy due to the location of the hostel, despite the windows being closed at night. Wrong time maybe

The hostel itself is nice, but the kitchen isnt the cleanest.There was food in the sink,and the trash can was alqays full. The rooms get muggy, and there was a roach in hallway i killed and picked up myself (ty staff for helping) and a roach in my room, and near my bunkmates bed. the staff seems to care more about hanging out with each other than getting to know the guest staying there.

Muy buen hostal. Personal muy amable y atento. Las instalaciones están genial, la ubicación igual y las tortitas de por la mañana están riquísimas.

Showers and bathrooms were really big and nice (minus the usual hairs and mold). The door locked downstairs. Free towels. Parking down the street. Beds were comfy with personal fan, charging ports, light and blackout privacy curtain. The pillow though was basically a sheet and horrible. And the kitchen- one of the dirtiest hostel kitchens I’ve ever seen. Also we had $20 of food stolen and they just said out of luck it’s a reoccurring problem(which means it must be the same people doing it?)

This property was relatively clean and modern, amenities were amazing, staff was all warm and welcoming, only complaint is the thin sheet they give you as a blanket and the tiniest pillow, you can ask for another blanket but it's still rather small

Wow!! What a great hotel to be at when in Hilo!! The free pancakes were the best part of the whole experience. I never took part in any of the hostel led excursions but my dorm mates did and they said they loved both the waterfall excursion and volcano excursions. Beds were comfortable, facilities were always clean and stocked, and staff was very friendly. I wish they had male only dorms, but other than that, amazing place!

I stayed at Howzit Hostel in Hilo and had an amazing experience. From free pancakes and coffee to great tours and clean rooms, kitchen, and common areas, everything exceeded expectations. James was an incredible, knowledgeable guide. Thank you to Nat, Gaby, Kenzie, Isa, Cristina, and Mar for the warm, welcome, they made me feel at home. I left with unforgettable memories and friendships. Highly recommend staying here in Hilo!

Tyrese, Nat, and Isabella were AMAZING!!! The property was so clean and the bunks had privacy curtains, lights, and fans so I felt so cozy and tucked away at night. They also offer daily excursions and the location is within walking distance of so many restaurants and shops. Everyone staying there was very kind and respectful. Highly recommend if your going to Hilo.

This was the first hostel I’d ever stayed at. All I can say is if all hostel experiences are this great, I’m never staying at a hotel/motel again! The cleanliness was great, pancakes were great, a little noisy at night but I can’t complain because it’s in a great location, seconds away from local food trucks and restaurants. James was the best tour guide! Hostel had cool people and good vibes. Lots to do in the area and the tours were super cool! Only wish I was there for longer to experience more of what they had to offer!

Alles in diesem Hostel ist toll, die Betten sind bequem, alles ist sauber und das Frühstück mit den pancaces ist einfach fantastisch. Doch am meisten kann ich die Tour empfehlen zu den Wasserfällen. Es ist ein richtiges Abenteuer und führt zu wunderschönen Wasserfällen. Dass beste ist, dass man die Wasserfälle komplett für sich alleine hat! This place was a great stay right in the heart of Hilo. The hostel is clean, nice, and the staff are super helpful and friendly. Ava at the front desk was super helpful and friendly! Definitely would recommend staying here in Hilo

Great hostel. Good location, nice staff. Only complaint would be the rungs for the top bunks were very narrow and hard to climb up/down. Other than that, loved the stay there. Would definitely book this location again.

would highly recommend this hostel, facilities were kept extremely clean. common area was great as well as the kitchen and patio they had. they offered plenty of activities and tours made exploring the big island easy. I would highly recommend the waterfall tour. James was an extremely friendly tour guide and was very knowledgeable about the different falls.

The hostel was such a nice experience. Everything was super clean, there were curtains in the dorms and all the staff were super friendly. I did the sunset tour and the caves and coconut tour. James was an excellent tour guide with Colette for both. I was the only one on the caves and coconut tour and it was such a great day. Highly recommend the howzit hostel :)
