The first room we received had a really thick wet air in it, and the walls and roof had black mould. We made the staff aware of this issue, and they moved us to another room without caring about the black mould. When we received our new dorm room, we got the exact same result - intense black mould on the roof, and the smell of this and the sewage from the bathroom met us. (Picture as documentation available) The staff didn’t seem to care, and left us with the room. (Contact for more)
Easily my worst hostel experience having stayed in 50+ hostels worldwide. Incredibly unprofessional staff, laborious check-in process. My bed didn't have a duvet so I requested a new one, obviously this has to be done through the slow app. All the room had was a damp blanket. Room was absolutely freezing and you have to pay extra for heating... Toilet dirty, broken seat, no hot water, had to pay for a towel and then they couldn't give me one because the WiFi was down... An insanely bad experienc
It’s okay but be aware there is no heating here. They can offer extra blankets but it can get very cold and wet.
If the hostels are located in hilly areas then they should provide heaters and better rooms were expected
Overall, the hostel was good. The beds were comfortable, but the atmosphere was lacking (at the end of July). I found check in took too long just because of an unnecessary app you will end up not using
Atmosphere and location are good. The double private room was bit overpriced. Room was very bright because of the light from the hallway. Also bit noisy. Water from shower was very limited. Temperature in room got cold after midnight. On the last day - we departed at 5:00 to go to the bus station - the taxi did not show up which was supposed to be booked by the hostel. Overall had a pleasant stay, just a couple of points which are good to know in case you are looking for a bit more comfort...
The pictures are far from accurate regarding the cleaness..
This hostel is clean and the staff are friendly. As a chain of hostels it does lack personality. The check in is a slow process which is frustrating. It’s also hard to contact the hostel directly before arrival without having to go through their automated system which is not very helpful and feels very impersonal. Overall we had a pleasant stay but could have done with a more personal experience rather than having to use the online concierge.
nice personnel, location is good to experience shimla by walking but difficult on arrival when carrying luggage. Bed in private rooms is just a mattress on a wooden plate, bathroom absolutely not good. No window, no ventilation, moisture can just disappear through the bedroom which most people will try to avoid, therefore black mold in the bathrooms. Would probably not stay there again.
Classic Hosteller and therefor the best hostel in Shimla. Really excellent staff who were very helpful when I arrived late and gave very good advice on what to do/ which busses to get. Good value rooftop cafe for a hostel as well - the paratha is particular good for breakfast. Good size rooms with lights/ curtains etc. and clean bathrooms. Couldn’t ask for much more from them!

Had a wonderful stay at The Hosteller Shimla. Beautiful views, peaceful vibe, and amazing food. Huge thanks to Sunny, Hritik, Gunsham, and Santosh for their warm and helpful service — they really made the stay special. The hostel is clean, comfortable, and well-run. The only downside was a few loud dorm guests switching on lights at night, which wasn’t the hostel’s fault.Overall, highly recommended. I’d love to come back!
I was traveling with a leg injury and couldn’t move around easily — but the team here went way out of their way to take care of me. They carried my wheelchair, helped me get around, and even came to pick me up from the Mall Road whenever I needed. Every single person was incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely cared about my comfort and well-being. If you’re looking for a place where you can truly feel comfortable, supported, and surrounded by people you can trust — this is the place.
A lovely hostel in Shimla - highly recommend. Amazing views from the terrace and staff were very welcoming and helpful.
Really wonderful location and stay in Shimla. Very courteous staff. Clean. Hosteller in general seems to lack the social environment of non-chain hostels, but it a quality stay nonetheless
worth it for the time spent and everything is closeby and very neat and tidy
the hostel is situated very close to the town centre. The rooms are nice and everything was clean. The food served at the cafe is really nice and the staff try to help as much as they can. would stay again.

Great hostel and amazing staff
Great 😃
pretty decent places in shimla...food and room was good. Stayed there for a night and close to the market areas. Only one note ...there was no lock system on the door
Solid place to stay in Shimla for a solo traveller. Bit of a walk to get to, but other than that very solid place 👍
great hostel, clean good showers. I left my headphones and they posted them to me. very impressed

Jst wowww. Highly recommend
Nice room and facilities, great rooftop with a cafè with beverages and food. Staff is polite and works hard to keep the hostel clean. The location is a bit of a walk from the centre but it's worthy
Property super clean, really nice beds and showers. Staff really helpful and booked a taxi to bus station for me which was a lot cheaper than I was expecting. Be prepared for some serious hills to get to the hostel but the view of Shimla makes it worth it! I would definitely go back
