You will only have the basics there. The staff does not speak English well, so they will not give you any advice on what to do in the city or talk with you. There are no social events or any activities organized by the hostel. When I arrived in my room, it was a complete mess because of one of the roommate (empty beer cans...), but nothing has been cleaned. Last but not least, the mattress are incredibly hard. For this price, there are lots of better options in the city...
Maybe the strangest layout of a room I’ve stayed in. There was a double bed in the middle of the room which I had to step on in order to get down from my bunk. The beds were also rock solid- literally felt like sleeping on a plank of wood. The bathrooms also weren’t the best… however the rooftop chill out space was pretty cool
Very nice rooftop and a nice lokation in Chinatown! Gary was super helpfull and nice! The room and bathroom wasn’t super clean.
The rooftop is awesome and the staff is sweet but that’s about it. Pretty dead, I was the only person in the room, same thing goes for the rooftop. Location is ok I guess, but not as central as other hostels. The main issue is the check out time which cannot be earlier than 8 am, and since I needed to check out at 7 am I had to leave my key at the reception at the latest at 10 pm the night before, so no freedom the night before your departure I guess haha
Stayed here because it was closest to the bus station & had good reviews. Unfortunately It’s very loud (little sound proofing, bunks are SUPER creaky) bed was rock hard, room layout is odd & no privacy (cute in pictures, not in real life), bathroom could do with a really deep clean & some tlc. Most of the beds seemed occupied (untidy) but only 2 others were. No real process for checking out before 8am - I couldn’t have a keycard as no one would be around to refund the deposit, odd for a host...
Makad Rooftop Hostel: Great Views, Death-Defying AccessMakad Rooftop Hostel is quite literally a high-level experience—mainly because you have to climb Mount Everest just to get to your room. The stairs are so narrow, steep, and completely without support that they seem designed by a personal trainer with a grudge against knees. If you're a senior citizen, or just someone with knees over the age of 40, prepare for an extreme sport. Bringing a suitcase? Pack a sherpa. Wearing a backpack? Consi
Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Rooms were tiny and covered in stuff. There was women’s items everywhere and I was the only woman in my room - made it feel very untidy. Rooftop was nice to chill I.

One of the best Hostels I‘ve had so far. The rooftop is amazing and the people working there were so incredebly friendly and nice to talk to. Will definetly come back!
For the price this is the best hostel in Chiang Mai🤙
Good location, despite the neighbourhood being quite quite late evening. Friendly hosts, but understandably not there after mid afternoon during Songkran. Common areas like the rooftop should be cleaned more frequently.
Absolutely loved my stay here! A friend and I stayed for 6 days and it was by far my favorite hostel yet. The rooftop has such a nice view of the area and gives a perfect space to meet other travelers. The rooms are small but just enough and very comfortable. It’s super close to a lot of the highlights around the area and just a few minutes walking distance into the old city! I would highly recommend a stay here :)
This hostel was in a great location, in the heart of Chinatown in Chiang Mai. There was no fridge or water machine, but the room was comfortable and the en suite bathrooms were a nice touch. The bins weren’t changed much but you just have to ask. Gary had some great recommendations for things to do nearby. The coffee from the cafe was really nice.
Lovely people, lovely rooftop and the buckets also were really nice!! (Get the 3 for 2 deal!)
Very chill vibes, perfect minus so many stairs 😂 But the staff was so kind and flexible. As well as the other guests and visitors had good energy. The roof was very special when it wasn’t too hot, sometimes people came to play music. Could buy drinks like yummy coffee from the office, very convenient. 10/10 would love to come again.

Staff were lovely and accommodating, unfortunately was very ill when checking in, and the front lady allowed me to check in early and gave me water and paracetamol. Would highly recommend
The owner is super friendly!
This hostel was an easy 10/10. The owner, Gary, is extremely welcoming and helpful. Helping us book tours and find the right one for us. The roof area brings a unique experience to this hostel as I have found none others like it. Truly a one off hostel! The rooms, staff and facilities were excellent 👌 Highly recommend staying here if you are in Chang Mai.
Amazing rooftop terraces with views over Chiang Mai and cozy chill-out areas. Sometimes there's live music in the evenings. The hostel staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I felt very comfortable here.
Very good value for money. The owner is super nice and helpful. He really cares about your well-being. The rooftop bar is also nice, meet some nice people there. Rooms are very reasonable for the price!
such a great hostel to stay at, cheap prices, great atmosphere and the rooftop is the best. and the owner GARY, he’s the best guy. He made sure everything was perfect, even provided extra towel and water for my trip, I’ll be surely staying here again.
Amazing host, very flexible and friendly
Great hostel, friendly staff and the rooftop area really made our stay!

It's a totally fine place to stay, just not very sociable and there is no kitchen. But fine if you just want a bed, fairly clean and the have a beautiful Rooftop from where to watch the sunset. I would stay there again. Just beware of really really hard beds ;)
