Happy Porto Hostel

I’m reporting a serious issue with bed bugs during my stay. Despite my request, I’ve received no refund, and I’ve been mistreated throughout this process. I’ve also spoken with other guests who experienced the same issue. The manager blamed me for the bed bug issue, even though, another guest was also reported to be affected by the same issue in a different dorm. Very disappointed and frustrated!

The hostel is nice with lots of good facilities. However the manager is weird and a little rude to his employees. I feel like this hostel could be so much more social but it felt just a little awkward. There should be more activities. The rooms were nice and the showers were clean.

Is quite far from center. Have to walk up all the time. Wish there were privacy curtains. Other than that, the view is amazing, free breakfast is good!

Would not recommend, granted I should have done more research on the place before booking but this is just a bad location for Porto, get ready to walk up the massive hill everyday to do anything. Most unsocial hostel I’ve ever been too, vibes were just weird, no one really talked to each other. No social activities were made aware to me when I asked about them.

Staff was amazing and location was great. Free breakfast from a buffet which is perfect in the morning. My only thing is that I did not have a bed, it was just a mattress on the floor which I was not at all preparede for. This of course had zero privacy and was hard to sleep on but other than that it was great and Porto is beautiful!

looks a lot more nicer/cosier on the pictures than in real life. the windows were closed the whole time and it was a totally different atmosphere. breakfast was cornflakes and toast with cheese/meat or confiture, was oke.

Super friendly staff, clean facilities and very good location. Pity there is not a real common space to chill except for at the reception which also serves as breakfast area. Also, we slept in the 10-girls dorm, only, 4 out of 10 sleep in a small mezzanine with matrasses on the floor and not enough space to have your luggage somewhere practical… We thus thought paying €25 per person per night was quite expensive. Overall still a very good experience, we do recommend!

Stayed 1 week in studio apt - separate building. Location is decent, nice to be near river but you will have so walk up hill to any bars/restaurants etc. Room/bathroom was clean apart from rubbish under bed. Water pressure is bad. Staff super nice and helpful. Only serious complaint is no proper social area - the one pictured is just reception. You may fare better meeting people in the dorm but I met 0 people in my time so you’d be better off at a cheaper airbnb or hotel.

Hostel is well located and all the touristy things are within a 25 minute walk. In general, the hostel was clean but the fridge and food storage area was one of the worst I’ve seen. The kitchen is also super small, so keep this in mind if you’re someone who likes to do their own cooking. Beds were comfortable but the pillows were awful. Staff friendly.

Clean hostel along the river. There’s a bus station very near but keep in mind it doesn’t connect to the airport. What I like: the position, the cleanliness, the staff What I disliked: no privacy in the dorms. I slept on a mattress on the floor and not in an actual bed. Storage space is really poor. The room gets hot in June even with a/c on. The bathroom has two showers but one doesn’t get that hot. The space for breakfast is really small

Buen alojamiento, gran ubicación cerca de la costa. Las instalaciones son buenas aunque el personal no te explica mucho de ellas, las duchas y baños son 10/10, el locker con llave incluida gratis está bueno, aunque es un poquito más chico que lockers que te dan en otros hostales. El desayuno no es muy variado pero no está mal. No hay mucho ambiente de socializar, el área comun no es tan grande y algunos huespedes son personas de avanzada edad, pero tampoco era mi idea al alojarme aquí.

I've spent 3 nights in the 8-person mixed dorm and had a pleasant stay. Each room has 2 toilets and showers; it was very clean and comfortable. The sheets and room were clean too. The locker inside the room is slightly small, but it fits a medium-sized backpack. The staff were very friendly and nice, the location is beautiful, close to the bus stop and city centre by walk. It has an amazing view too. If you pay 5 more euros, there's a small breakfast buffet too.

My first ever hostel and it was a great one !

Wir hatten einen guten Aufenthalt. Das Zimmer war sauber, auf Fragen wurde schnell geantwortet und die Lage war super (in 10 min war man in der Stadt). Leider war der Gemeinschaftsraum nicht sehr gemütlich und dort haben sich auch nicht sehr viele Gäste aufgehalten zum connecten.

I had a quiet but pleasant stay here. I was the only person in the hostel for all 3 nights! So in terms of social vibe, there was none (although the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the city, thank you Pedro!). I thought the location was nice - it’s between the beach/parks/museums to the west and city center to the east (about a 20 min walk). Very clean hostel, worth it for the price. But you’ll have to venture a bit to find social connection.

Um excelente acolhimento, equipe muito simpática, super bem localizado com transporte que passa na porta; sendo perto de passeios históricos que podem ser feitos mesmo a pé. Super recomendo e me hospedaria novamente. Muito obrigada.

Overall the Happy Porto Hostel is a great place to stay in Porto! The location is excellent with only a 10-15 minute walk to the waterfront. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and cleaned daily. Not the biggest common area but there’s a wide variety of books and puzzles to solve. Staff was very friendly and helpful in giving directions and things to do and see around the city. If you decide to book here you’ll be very happy (no pun intended) with your decision.

had a perfect stay at happy porto hostel, definitely would recommend it to other travelers. staff was really friendly and helpful, always willing to help with anything. breakfast included, the room and bathroom was clean and comfy. location is not in the center of town but i think was best this way, walkable distances and a pretty view.

Das Hostel ist wirklich super sauber gewesen und man hatte einen Super ausblick auf den Douro-Fluss! Man kann alle Sightseeing Spots zu Fuß in etwa 20-40 min erreichen. Leider fehlte mir der soziale Aspekt im Happy Porto Hostel, es war kaum möglich andere Reisende kennenzulernen.

Nice and clean hostel. Personnel is friendly and they give you advice and tips on what to do in Porto. If you are looking for a more social/ party hostel, maybe best to look for something else as they do not organize events or activities.

This hostel is beautiful and clean, right across from the river. Paulo at reception was lovely and helped us plan to explore the city. Breakfast included and great location, I would definitely stay again

Bedroom balcony view was really nice. Staff were very friendly and gave many suggestions on nice places to visit. Would recommend!

The vibes of the place are great. The location is perfect. And the stuff are very kind.

Minha estadia no Happy Porto foi incrível, staff muito atencioso, hostel muito bem localizado e limpo! Sem dúvidas recomendaria :)

I recommend. Staff/Owner very attentive. Central, Super clean. Good bathrooms (really). Beds are solid (wood, no noise). Good ventilation. Breakfast was better than expected: cheese, yogourt, fruits, cereals, all you need for your toasts. I read the negative critics prior to renting and I disagree. The common is small for fine. To Admin : I wish there were privacy curtains and an additional peace of wood behind the pillow for head/back comfort.

Just as indicated by the name, it was a very pleasant stay at Happy Porto! The room was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was very nice and the staff are super nice and friendly! Besides, the location is very good, with the bus stop just in front of the hostel.
