Front desk people were great but there are bedbugs

Got bed bug bites my first night. Great location though and staff were very friendly.

I was really scared by the reviews I read about this place but my stay has been amazing. No bedbugs, free wine, great people! Will definitely be coming back if i’m ever lucky enough to find myself in Rome again.

Dirty rooms, smelly sheets, bedbugs all over our bodies after. Smelled like cigarette smoke.

Dirty towel, smelled like smoke, shady location, my friend got bedbugs, sheets didn’t feel clean, dirty restrooms, smelly and loud environment overall.

There was no running water at night(at all!),and just a little stream during the day The heating didn't work properly(we set the AC even at 30°but the room was always cold and humid) There was just a little wardrobe where to hang the clothes(eg.wet jackets),and it rained everyday, so our clothes were permanently wet and cold! The staff was very nice The location really good (but pay attention around the station) The cleaning was good (the bathroom has been cleaned every day), no sign of bedbugs

I usually do not write negative reviews much but this is maybe the first time. We stayed on the filth floor with two other rooms and shared kitchen. During our stay, the water was not working properly. I was in the shower and suddenly water stopped completely. I informed the receptionist but the answer was like "sorry we can not fix the whole system right now", therefore our 5 day stay was kinda lack of water. The water was on and off all the time which was annoying. The shared kitchen was lack of stuffs for example: No cutting board, no boiling kettle, the dishwasher did not work, the plates were bit dirty. I have read the review from other travellers that there were bed bugs in the room but luckily our room was fine. No signs of bed bugs have been found. The toilet was lack of soap but generally was clean. The plus thing of this hostel is that, it is close to the termini and there was stores/cafes all around. To be honest, I do not recommend to stay in this place unless you want to take risk. Our price for one night was 70e/ per night so it was not cheap either. We should have deserved a better service to be honest.

Best stay in a hostel so far! I was terrified from the negative reviews, but my partner and I had a great stay! No bed bugs, the rooms and bathrooms were clean. We loved the social hour where we could get a free glass of wine and some chips, and an opportunity to chat with other travellers. The location is great, right near two metro stations. There was a bit of road noise through the closed windows, but that’s to be expected in a big city.

There was bedbugs all over our private room and once we realized it we couldn’t change hostels, we went downstairs to get a refund because we couldn’t sleep and the guy in the front was very rude

Do not stay here. Found a bed bug in our room on the last morning , toilets barely flushed and 30 minute walk to everything (walk is fine, for a much cheaper $). Didn’t feel clean or safe. Spend the extra money elsewhere

Please check the google reviews, people got bed bugs from this place. The staff was not very helpful and a bit rude. We stayed in a private, the whole place was really stinky, not very clean, not enough hot water and the wifi was not good. The luggage room is not safe and absolutely dirty. Way too expensive for what it was worth

Nous avons réservé une chambre privative à 3 amis pour 120€, la salle de bain partagée était en mauvais état, il n'y avait pas de couverture disponibles dans la chambre, nous avons dû en demander à la réception de peur d'avoir froid. Obligation de payer une taxe de 6€/personne/nuit en cash (18€/nuit en plus des 120€) ... Je pense avoir des piqûres de punaises de lit depuis que j'ai séjourné à cet endroit. Point positif tout de même : l'emplacement proche de la gare Termini, la luggage room pratique, la terrasse et le petit déjeuner correct.

Awful time - bed bugs in the bed and promised a refund but 3 months of my emails and calls being ignored and no refund

BED BUGS!!! Check the bed sheets, curtains, AND behind any picture frames before settling into your room. I hate to write a negative review as the staff was quite nice and the room looked awesome among our initial check in. Our actual beds had no signs of bugs but I unfortunately found them in the corner of the painting in our room. We then told the receptionist on duty once we found them and he insinuated that we must have brought them from our previous travels. I do not think the bugs travelled from our bags to the top left corner of a picture frame on the other side of the room. The receptionist did clean the room upon us finding the bugs but not a professional cleaning as it was later in the day and he explained he was the only one working at the moment and it was too late to call their official service. They also could not change our room as they were booked for the night. The next morning we woke up to find more bugs near the curtain and one of the beds. We again went to the receptionist and explained the situation from the night prior and how the room needed to be checked and cleaned again. This receptionist was much kinder and apologetic towards the situation. However, this sadly did not make up for the fact that we had to sleep in a room clearly infested with bed bugs. There was no compensation offered for this major inconvenience which was also a but disappointing. I would not recommend booking with this hostel unless you want to encounter some troubles on your travels.

Location is close to termini, which is nice, but we ended up with a bedbug infestation that cost lots to deal with (images show my room after the trip). Couldve used the money for a better stay instead.

Bed rooms were clean, but kitchen and bathroom facilities weren’t good. Oven and kettle were unusable. On one night we had a private room which was adequate however when we changed to a dorm it didn’t uphold the standards. We spoke to one group in the hostel who had bed bugs in their room.

I just had the worst experience ever in this hostel. suffered strong harassment and sexual abuse attempt in my mixed room, during the night, while I was asleep. When reported to the front desk, the man there not only did nothing, but also questioned the integrity of my report, suggesting it was no big deal and that the harasser might have had his reasons to do so (????) also, bathroom is beyond dirty and tons of bed bugs. only good thing is locatio

No bed bugs for us! We stayed in a three person private room and it was lovely. The vibes in the courtyard at night time were great and the check in and check out was super easy. Only down side is the Netflix didn’t work in our room (but first world problems) and the showers were a bit marginal. The kitchen also could be a bit better organised but it does the job. Overall positively surprised!

terrible hostel, bedbugs everywhere, kitchen is awful, in general very dirty, no social life there, reception at night just a guy sleeping on the sofa and no help at all, DO NOT GO THERE bathrooms horrible aswell

THERE ARE BEDBUGS!!! DO NOT STAY THERE. I was supposed to stay 3 nights, but I left in the first one. I found out at night, after I got bitten and they didn't help, they send to sleep in a couch and told me they will managed it in the morning.... I asked for my money at the morning and left. Also the bathrooms are s***.

- BED BUGS, we had to change rooms 4 times, needed to wait long to change rooms - the last night we had to stay in the bed bug room again, which was promised to be „clean“ - turns out there were STILL BED BUGS in our beds - had to dicuss with receptionist (who didn’t want to understand us) to get another room at 1am, DIDN‘T BELIEVE US - night receptionists don‘t understand English & were sleeping (= NO SAFETY) - big lack of hygiene, weird smell, disgusting kitchen (read our google review)

Full of bed bugs!!! Toilets are disgusting. Internet only works halfway in the room. Never again.

Lactation was good, nice and close to the train station. Staff were nice and welcoming. Wouldn’t recommend this place. There were bed bugs. The room I was in was right next to the main entrance, could hear everything outside. Guests would often leave the door unlocked and the main entrance was unlocked so anyone could easily get into the room. AC would turn off randomly throughout the night. Unable to get a full nights sleep because of this. Would wake up sweating and have to turn it back on.

Fue muy mala la experiencia. Las camas tenían chinches unos días después de mi quedada empecé a enfermar. Empezando por el brote en la piel el cual empieza a picar. NO PAGUEN ALLÍ POR FAVOR

The location unfortunately does not make up for poor quality. Staff were friendly (the man on reception also spoke perfect English) but they don't have a lot to work with. My greatest issue was the bathrooms, the "ensuite bathroom" of my shared room was more of a cubicle-like box. It had no ventilation, and from a leaky toilet to a shower head that wouldn't stay upright, everything was broken in some way. Leaks and the lack of ventilation meant that the whole place was constantly wet and humid, resulting in a mouldy ceiling. Even with the lower price and good location, I could not recommend this place. Thankfully, I didn't have any bed bugs like other reviewers. However, I did encounter the man sleeping on the couches at reception (he appears to do this every night) and the terrible coffee at breakfast and terrible wine at happy hour.

Disgusting place, infested with bed bugs! During my stay I noticed bedbugs which i reported and was moved rooms, only for the other room to also be infested with bedbugs, we saw them crawling up the walls and they were in everyone’s beds. When I reported the bedbugs to the receptionist they didn’t seem to care and made remarks about how it’s not their fault and this happens often. They also promised me a full refund, it’s been almost a month of me emailing them chasing it up and they continue to make excuses for why they haven’t returned my money. They’re scammers and simply do not care about the state of the place. do not stay here it’s a disgusting place, the staff couldn’t care less, the facilities are basic and unclean and the breakfast is hardly a breakfast.

Freedom Traveller is a good location next to the main Train terminal which was great. However, this place had ALOT of bedbugs, they were in the beds, all over the walls and the floor. The overnight receptionist was not qualified enough to deal with the situation, he wanted to spray the whole room and expect us to still sleep in there. We didn't even sleep there one night we packed our bags at 4:30am and found another place to stay. Freedom Travellers needs to sort this properly not mask the issu

There were HUUGE BED BUGS everywhere. They were on the walls and deep in the creases of the bed. The size alone was alarming which meant they had been there a long time. When confronting the reception we got passed to 3 people and they were obviously not serious about it and said “okay sure we’ll check it out” but you can tell they didn’t care. We read reviews on Google and EVERYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, bed bugs and horrible service, sometimes even rude or aggressive

I had a bed bug incident here and they promised me to give me my money back for the next night, because I did not want to sleep in this bed anymore. Despite the promise they DO NOT give you the MONEY back! I wrote 3 emails, called them and now they are just not answering anymore… They told me the owner is on vacation and that he needs to verify the refund, but he is supposed to be back for 2 weeks now and still they are not answering my emails.

This hostel is in a great local, close to both the train station and attractions. The building itself is fine; air conditioned, good kitchen and decent beds. The main issues with this hostel were the staff and cleanliness. The staff were quite rude at time and their were BED BUGS. Overall would definitely not recommend this hostel

Bedbugs in the hostel so checked out early-staff promised refund but after many emails and calls never received it. The room and building did not feel safe

Le gars de la réception lance des films avec des hauts parleurs sans tenir en compte notre bien être, il fallait que je me réveille en plein sommeil pour lui demander ça, parler à haute voix devant la chambre qui se trouve coller à l’accueil. Les douches sont dans un état critique et quand on prend douche l’eau disperse partout, trop de poussière sur les lits y compris les draps et les oreillers, et ce qui m’a dégoûté, c’est de voir un punaise de lit sur mon lit. Je ne recommande pas cette établ

So I booked a night here because of it being close to Roma Termini and because of its cheap price. The night before my checkin, I came across the reviews on Google Maps and found many scary negative reviews but my experience were far from the claims! First of all the front desk men were nice. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and no bed bugs encountered. The rooms were secured with a common room plus another door to the dormitory. I loved my stay!

It was a nice place! Although I have to point out that I got bitten by bedbugs during my only night that I stayed and the scars remained for a whole week… the bed was not clean! So please take more care with the cleanliness of the beds to avoid this situation for the others :)

Nice hostel, though I only stayed there for one night. Before going I was a bit worried because I read something about bed bugs in the reviews before going (and I couldn’t cancel my booking) but i thought the place was clean and did not see or feel any kind of bugs. It is located near Termini, which is perfect in my opinion.

Too many bed bugs. Kept killing them throughout the night, more kept coming. Please please please fix this. One or two are understandable accidents. Not a WHOLE FAMILY of them.

We really wanted to love this hostel, free croissants and coffee in the mornings with free wine in the evenings. Unfortunately we also got bed bugs and had to spend a day hot washing our clothes to make sure they didn’t spread. We only found them on our last night but let reception know, the guy who checked us out said he’d get someone to look into it. It’s not very secure and we at one point had a random man sleeping on the couch outside our room. Not clean at all, bathroom’s mouldy and smelly

Nous venons de séjourner au Freedom Traveller Hostel pour 3 Nuits ....que dire ... Commençons par les points négatifs ....salle de bain humide mur moisi ...mais surtout ménage pas fait ..bac à douche plein de poils, tour des WC dégueulasse cuvette des toilettes cassé... Et mon conjoint étant technicien dans une entreprise pour se débarrasser des nuisibles nous avons inspecté la chambre du sol au plafond et avons trouvé une punaise de lit 😬... Matelas taché d'une énorme tâche de sang ... Au petit déjeuner rien qu'un croissant café et thé...pas plus ...il n'y en a pas pour tout les goûts ....lol . Notre chambre était dans un autre bâtiment de la réception nous devions à chaque fois sortir de notre bâtiment pour rejoindre à 200m la salle du petit déjeuner... Clairement la chambre ne vaut pas le prix....surtout qu'à notre arrivée on nous annonce une taxe de séjour de 5€/pers par nuits ...donc 30€ en plus qu'il faut payer cash ...lol Il y aurait pourtant un excellent potentiels ... Car l'emplacement est idéal proche de la gare train et métro termini qui desser tout Rome. Point positif le personnel est sympathique et la literie était plutôt confortable.... Ce qu'il manque c'est un bon coup de ménage dans ces chambres ....

Reception was almost never at the desk. I had to wait long just to check in and out, and even ask them a question. Previous reviews spoke of bed bugs, and when I asked the staff about them they said they didn’t have issues with it. However after one night there I woke up covered in many small bites all over my legs, arms and torso that swole up terribly (I stilll have hyperpigmentation from weeks ago). I ended up putting on bug spray to go to bed. When I told the staff that the shower drain wasn’t working, they got incredibly defensive and said they cleaned it daily so there’s no way it could have not drained well. Wish that was the case and I wasn’t standing in a puddle of dirty water while taking a shower. One staff member (I believe the night shift receptionist) was incredibly unhelpful and refused to acknowledge that there was an issue, instead saying to tell his colleague and that it wasn’t his problem. Was happy to get out of there. Unfortunately could not cancel reservation and leave because it was nonrefundable, which after what I experienced, I can see why they make it so they get your money no matter what.

I would love to give this place a good review but when you get bed bugs from a stay, nothing good that happen can make up for it. I connected with one of the front desk workers a few times and he was incredibly nice but that was the only good thing about this place, the one guy. By 3:00 pm check in, our room wasn’t ready and we watched a guy wearing frumpy clothes and flip flops “clean” our room because he wasn’t finished. By clean, I mean he made our beds with linens (if you can them that) on the used bed of one of the other guest staying in our hostel dorm. After that he proceeded to lightly sweep the floor. I could tell the wooded floors were never mopped, just sweeped as if I went to the bathroom in my socks, my socks were getting dirty on the bottoms. The bathroom as well was dirty and didn’t seem well maintained. The soap felt gross and slimy and there weren’t any towels. Now the actual gross part, BED BUGS. I woke up the first day with a bite inside my ear and a few on my hand that I had under the pillow (also this pillow was gross, flat and had yellow stains). i thought the bites were from a bug that flew in through the open window and went about my day. Next night, even more. I thought maybe it was bed bugs but I saw no evidence. The last night, we got up early to leave for our flight when I saw an actual bed bug which is when I freaked out. At this point I have so many bites I was getting hives on my arms and legs. I am still terrified I might’ve brought some home after I tried my best to decontaminate my belongings. Right before leaving, we told someone at the front desk about the issue but they were literally asleep on the couch and didn’t care. Anyway, please stay away from here, bed bugs are not worth it EVER!

The service there was really helpful and nice. That is, for the front desk. However when we got to our room it still had yet to be cleaned and so we waited and watched the guy “clean”. Which was sweeping dust under beds and not sanitizing anything. He also put our new bedding on our hostel roommates bed which I found unsanitary. Also there were bed bugs which put a HUGE damper on our trip. We both are now covered in bites. Only other positive is it’s close to Roma Termini.

Unfortunately the reviews about bedbugs are true. After thoroughly checking my bed I went to sleep and still woke up to one crawling in my bed. Took a picture and showed staff. Offered to change sheets and change room but couldn’t authorize a refund so I changed rooms but still found 2 smaller ones in that room so I did not sleep. Understand they’re hard to get rid of but I see consistent reviews dating back to 3 years about bedbugs. Eventually something has to be done. Don’t stay here.

I got bug bites… I hope it’s not bed bug. But the room smells and the Toliet smells too. The door locks are so tricky and every time I opened it, I need to force it so much that I feel like I will break it. The place just didn’t feel clean. The hand soap is mixed with the Toliet bleach… it’s brown color. The staffs didn’t feel very professional. The common area don’t feel clean. I think if I knew I signed up for this… I would have paid a bit more for a different hostel.

This hostel has issues. For the price you’re paying I wasn’t expecting it to be incredible but the rooms were not clean, the bathrooms smelt horrible (so bad that I opted to not have a shower in the morning because I couldn’t bear the thought of spending more time in there), and the staff was rude. In particular, I saw after arriving that a number of guests had left reviews a few weeks ago saying that the hostel had given them bedbugs, and then when they tried to get a refund they were told it was possible

Got all my things infected with bed bugs, also all my body. location is good but the price is too much for what it offers (guess all other places are like this).

Nada recomendable, no se como funciona hoy en día. Para comenzar cuando llegas, te hacen pagar 30€ más de lo que pagas cuando reservas y te llevan desde ese edificio a otro que es donde se duerme que está a dos calles. Por lo que para desayunar tienes que ir al primer edificio (desayuno por cierto en que el solo ofrecen café y algún croissant o donut si queda cuando llegues). En el edificio donde nos quedamos es en la cuarta planta, al entrar un olor horrible. Nada higiénico, el agua de la ducha salía caliente cuando quería, la tele tampoco funcionaba y la cisterna hacia un ruido horrible sin incluso tirar de ella. Yo sí es verdad que me llevé mi propio producto anti-chinches por los comentarios que leí, y no he tenido problema con eso y además unas sábanas mías porque me esperaba que estas estuviesen manchadas y así ha sido. Eso sí, la ubicación está muy bien.

the only good thing was the Indian guy at the reception, really nice one. the others don't talk much and are rather unfriendly or on the phone. The bathroom is really dirty and everything has seen it best years long long ago. It would be okay for 10 euro a night. But not more. Found my first ever bed bug here. Also I'm not really a hygienic freak but this was one disappointed even me. Greetings to the Indian/ Pakistani guy, you are a light in this hostel!
