way overpriced, not a cool atmosphere
The Maya Moon Lodge is located between San Marcos and Tzununa. The water taxi takes you directly out on the steps of the Hostels. The Hostel is located directly on the lake, which is why you have access to the lake all day. Unfortunately, there is only a private kitchen in the private rooms, which is why you depend on it to eat in the hostel or if you are on the move. The food and drinks in the Hostel are already rather more expensive, than in other places. The atmosphere is relaxing and rather ...
The most overpriced hostel I’ve stayed in during five months of traveling. The food was good but charging £7 for an omelet felt excessive. It was also ridiculous to charge £10 for an hour of paddleboard rental when nearby hostels like Free Cerveza offer it for free. The staff were nice, but the atmosphere was nonexistent, and the WiFi was poor. On the plus side, the location was beautiful, and the beds were comfortable.
The hostel was okay overall, but it didn’t feel as warm or authentic as I had hoped. The atmosphere felt a bit distant, and I would have appreciated more information about the hostel and its services. With more attention to guest, it could be a nicer experience. I didn’t feel the guatemalan culture there
Nice place to stay if you’re looking for a remote and chilled spot. Hard to access anything else and to leave, you have to wave down the boats. Dorms are super basic but all in all a pretty place to stay.
Absolutely beautiful location, a little removed from San Marcos and a great, relaxing experience. Perfect place to swim and sunbathe. The volunteers running the hostel were lovely. Unfortunately, while I was there, we were out of power for over 24 hours. The food was pretty decent but overpriced, and there are very few places to eat close by.
Overall we really liked Maya Moon lodge. The Location is unique and very relaxed. If you seek some Call days to read books, take a morning swim in the lake or watch the sunrise. Overall just beautiful and we would definately come back. Unfortunately, the dorms didn’t have a kitchen and you are somewhat forced to either eat outside or from the hostels restaurant which is rather expensive (30Q for a beer). Other than that, comfortable beds, warm showers, unique view ☺️
the place is beautiful, location is weird because you need Tuk Tuk or boat for everywhere, the vibe was weird, the room was already over and with 0 space and one night they added a bed for a friend making the two beds in the middle almost one and two strangers were almost sleeping together, I would say with a bit of effort and creativity can be great place
Standards of hostels/accomodations are in general low in Guatemala compared to other countries. The dorm was very very basic, no privacy and space at all. therefore overpriced! Location and staff are beautiful!
Stayed in the Blue Heron room for 6 nights and really enjoyed our time here. So many great things: Cute bedroom, amazing balcony view, kitchenette was well equipped. Perfect place to swim, clear water, dock gets a ton of sunshine. Getting picked up/dropped off by lancha is super easy. Property is stunning. I highly recommend! Know before you come: The credit card fee is massive (10%), we brought cash to pay. Saw quite a few harmless but big spiders. Shower temp fluctuates a lot. Food not grea...

Genuinely 10/10 Hostel. Super friendly staff. Situated 20 min fast walk to San Marcos (can get a tuc-tuc as well). Removed from the hustle of the town so much more of a relaxing retreat. Great food as well. 3m pier to jump off into the water too! If you want a relaxing place to stay at- this is the one!
I LOVED this hostel! The location is BEAUTIFUL and cannot be beat! Only downside you have to take a tuk tuk to get into town. I unfortunately got food poisoning here(not from the restaurant food, was so good!) and the staff was amazing and so helpful. They helped me find a private room to stay in and brought me electrolytes and food. Could not have been better! Also met some amazing people here- not a social hostel per se but you def can make it a social atmosphere! Everyone is so nice!

Fantastic stay!
amazing place to stay if you want a relaxed stay by the lake. so beautiful and peaceful! the restaurant was reallyyy good food, not the cheapest but we had breakfast and dinner there which were great. after a really busy trip this was the perfect place to relax and meet lovely people. staff were so great too! thank you
Maya moon is an amazing spot to stay on the lake, good location (it’s easy to get an tuktuk to san Marcos or a ferry to any of the other towns on the lake) and great ambiance.
Thank you! I had a great stay at Maya Moon!
way overpriced, not a cool atmosphere
absolutely loved my stay here! My room was nice, the views were beautiful. Such a great place to relax by the lake
Really liked our stay here! Pros: beautiful rooms, great facilities, friendly staff, … Only con is that for dinner you can feel a bit stuck to their restaurant and san marcos (tuktuk ride away). Anywhere else the last boat is pretty early or you would pay way too much for a tuktuk at night as its quite the distance then. Also the menu in the restaurant is very american, we lacked a bit of local options on the menu.
Nice place to stay if you’re looking for a remote and chilled spot. Hard to access anything else and to leave, you have to wave down the boats. Dorms are super basic but all in all a pretty place to stay.
Good place to rest and relax. The dorm was a bit strange not having any privacy curtains and the lockers were tiny. The location is a major challenge. After 5:30 pm, you’ll need to stay on-site. It’s a 30-minute walk on a dirt road to San Marcos, or a 25q one-way tuk tuk during the day or a 50q at night. Boats are available only from 7:30 to around 5:30pm. Leaving in the early morning is also challenging. If you pay by card the machine adds an additional 4% undisclosed fee on top of the 1...
LOVE this hostel! Great shower, comfy bunks, and best of all private doc for swimming.
Lovely place with great dock to jump and swim. Super lovely staff who takes amazingly care of guests, they were wonderful. Food is good as well.. Unfortunately the owner and his friend got drunken really bad on the site and atmosphere got quite uncomfortable for guests. Really no-go actually..
Maya Moon Lodge is a stunning place with direct access to food, drinks and swimming. We stayed at Casa Sueña thanks to a free upgrade from the staff. It was an absolute dream! We found a little bit hard to get lanchas to stop at the dock in the afternoon in Pana direction. For the rest, tuk tuk from San Marcos or lanchas stopping at the private dock makes it easy to explore the lake.
Lovely stay!!
Probably my favourite place I visited in Guatemala. I fell in love with the property, it’s got beautiful view, nice staff and great food. Would recommend the veggie burger. I stayed in the Blue Heron room which has its own balcony and kitchenette and I woke up early each morning to watch the sunrises. I stayed over the Christmas period and it was exactly what I wanted. Thank you again.
Great place for people who want’s to relax or work remotely! Was not super social when I was there but so pretty and the food was good!
The Manager was very kind ! Beautiful Property! ✨
