Lazy Monkey Surf Hostel Hiriketiya

If I could give this place a zero I would. When we arrived the owner wasn't sure if my friend's bed was clean- got the staff to check who then lied and said he'd cleaned it. We checked and the bed had stains on it and was filthy so complained and the same staff member then admitted to not cleaning and making a new bed. The room was full of mosquitoes and I felt suffocated in a mosquito net that had holes in it. We were bitten all over. So glad we only booked this place for 1 night. Wifi slow.

We stayed in the “deluxe” female dorm, which is a couple of minutes’ walk from the main hostel. However, security was a major concern — the front door and gate were left unlocked at all times, meaning anyone could walk in off the street as there was no way to properly lock or secure the dorm. The sliding door was also faulty and difficult to use. Family dinners and the bar advertised never operated during our stay. No hot water. Poor WiFi. Unhelpful staff. No towels available to rent.

It was unhygienic: room was not cleaned up during our stay, toilet was clogged, water drainage was not working, wet floor… Beds were good, only plus point So overall, really bad experience

couldn’t sleep with indians in the room turning on light speaking loud and snoring, the owner didn’t help much, also not very social, and if its fully booked they will put you in an hostel nearby that is the worst

I stayed in the “Deluxe” room which was not actually in the hostel itself but a 4 minute walk away. There was no security around this dorm so anyone could have entered the unlocked room. The room and floor were dirty, as were the beds, the bedding was stained, and the bathroom was filthy, with only one of two working sinks. I told staff but nothing was done. We also ran out of toilet paper and it was never replenished despite continually asking. The WiFi in the room also didn’t work.

Besides the location directly in the center of Hiriketiya I didn’t like the hostel. The bathroom was dirty, I had the feeling they didn’t change the bed sheets, no curtains on the upper beds and no WiFi in the dorms. Would not stay there again.

Das Hostel ist super gelegen und mega nah am Strand. Das Personal sehr lieb und die Betten sehr gross ca.120. Leider ist es nicht mega sauber was teilweise etwas unangenehm ist, dennoch kann man sich eigentlich hier super wohlfühlen.

An sich eine schöne Unterkunft. Ich hatte allerdings meine Bettwand voller Schimmel!!! Nicht so geil… Strand ist nicht weit weg

Ich hatte einen guten Aufenthalt hier! Die Betten sind bequem und die AC läuft perfekt. Der Hostel Besitzer weiß immer wo die besten Partys sind und das Family Dinner was eine tolle frau gekocht hat war super lecker. An der Sauberkeit im 8 Zimmer die Straße runter mangelt es leider sehr. Da müsste wirklich öfter jemand zum entleeren der Mülleimer etc. vorbeikommen (insbesondere weil dieses Zimmer wirklich nicht günstig ist) die Lage ist aber top und wir hatten all in All eine gute Zeit hi...

Had an amazing time staying here in Hiriketiya, the staff were so lovely. The hostel owner Sumee was great at organising nights out and all the local events, you can go with the hostel and get tickets cheaper through them 🕺🏻 a few nights a week they do a delicious family dinner - they also have a hostel dog and puppy who we loved! Soo close to the beach you can walk there easily

I had a fantastic stay at Lazy Monkey Hostel. The staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome from the first moment. The hostel has a relaxed but social atmosphere, perfect for meeting other travelers or just chilling out. Everything was clean and comfortable, the location is great, and the overall vibe is awesome. I’d definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone traveling in Sri Lanka!

Had a very nice stay at Lazy Monkey with two of my friends for 5 nights. The dorm had AC that worked perfectly, and I know the owner is planning on upgrading the doubles as well so they had AC instead of fan. Friendly staff, flexible and welcoming. We had a family dinner before the weekly Jungle Party that was really good, and the owner is overall very initiative and professional. Very close to the beach, good restaurants nearby and laundry one minute away. Would recommend for a chill stay.

We had a great stay at Lazy Monkey. The hostel is extremely well located, 3 minutes from the beach. The dormitories are very clean as well as the toilets. We had very good evenings organised by the hostel, I recommend 100%

Die Betten sind schön breit und mit einem Mosquito Netz ausgestattet. Alles wurde jeden Tag geputzt und die Lage ist auch echt super - Restaurants und Laundry Service direkt neben dran. Es war im September eher ruhiger aber ich der Besitzer hat es erst kürzlich auf Hostelworld reingestellt, weshalb noch wenige Bewertungen da sind. Ich würde es wieder buchen!!
