I found a living bedbug on the wall at 10pm and all other dorms were fully booked. I left for an airbnb, but folk hostel refused to refund me for the 1 night 🥺

“Bed bug case not handled well” I want to clarify from the start that I am not blaming the hostel for having a “bed bug nest”. I understand that even in clean hostels, a single bed bug can appear because travelers bring them unknowingly. However, the fact remains: a bed bug was found in our room, one guest was bitten during the night, and the insect was full of blood, meaning it had been there for at least one or two days. This is not my fault, and a hostel should act accordingly when such a situation occurs. I usually don’t leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience so other travelers know what to expect. My issue is not that it happened — these things can occur anywhere. My issue is how the situation was handled: • The hostel insisted the insect “did not originate from the property,” which is unrealistic. Bed bugs always enter through travelers, and once they’re in a room, they’re in the property — regardless of where they originally came from. • My roommate and I were understandably too afraid to stay another night in that room, especially because we did not want to risk carrying bed bugs in our luggage. • The other guest in the room was bitten, which makes the situation even more serious. • We were told there was no other room available for us to move to. • Since we did not feel safe staying, we had to leave the hostel immediately and book an Airbnb that same night at our own expense. • Despite not staying the second night, the hostel refused to offer even a partial refund, which feels extremely unfair under the circumstances. Throughout the whole situation, I did not feel supported or treated with understanding. The communication was dismissive, and there was no meaningful attempt to help or show goodwill. • They said they will desinfect the room immediately but bed bugs hide well and also desinfection without time before sleep can be very harmful and even deadly for your if they use stuff like phosphine (they didn’t tell what chemical they will use) I genuinely wish I didn’t have to write a negative review I travel a lot, and I know things like this can happen. But the way the hostel handled the situation was not acceptable, especially considering the health risks and the fact that we had to relocate late at night. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their approach in similar cases in the future.
