Worst Hostel Experience — Bedbugs + Gaslighting + Zero Accountability 🚨🪳 I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Check Inn HK was unacceptable from start to finish. During my stay, I started getting bites on my legs. At first, I assumed they were mosquito bites — which is exactly why bedbug infestations often go unnoticed initially. Only after leaving and doing further research did I realize the bites were consistent with bedbugs: multiple bites, clustered patterns, and appearing over time. I contacted the hostel immediately and requested a refund, explaining the situation and my concern that I may have unknowingly brought bedbugs with me to my next accommodation — which is honestly one of the worst fears when traveling. Their response? Immediate denial. They told me they could “100% ensure” there were no bedbugs because: * The room is “always occupied” * No other guests had reported anything * Their cleaning team had “checked” This is deeply frustrating because anyone familiar with bedbugs knows: * Bites can appear **days later** * Not everyone reacts immediately * Early infestations are **very hard to detect** * Other guests may not realize or report it yet When I explained this, they doubled down and told me that **“big bites would be found immediately”** and that bedbugs are “not difficult to judge.” This is simply incorrect and contradicts widely available information. At this point, the conversation felt like pure gaslighting. Instead of acknowledging the possibility or showing any empathy, they repeatedly insisted that there was **"100% no bedbugs"**, dismissing my experience entirely. No refund offered. No meaningful investigation. No accountability. Just denial and dismissal. What made it even worse is that this wasn’t a cheap stay. I paid a significant amount for a **very small single room**, and dealing with potential bedbugs on top of that is completely unacceptable. Bedbugs are not a minor inconvenience: * They can follow you home * They can infest your luggage and clothes * They can cost hundreds (or more) to resolve * They cause stress long after your trip ends The lack of responsibility and the dismissive tone from management made this situation far worse than it needed to be. I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere. There are many hostels in Hong Kong that take hygiene and guest concerns seriously — unfortunately, this is not one of them. Extremely disappointing experience. Avoid if you value cleanliness, accountability, and peace of mind. 🚫

Careful when choosing this place, apart from any lack of privacy with the cheap bunk beds, the lack of an own light, my bed came with bed bugs.

Great Value for HK - the most affordable private room we could find. We came here after a horrible experience with bed bugs and cleanliness in a similar style hostel but Check Inn was lovely with free water, and the communal space.

Bed bugs, theft, and construction aren't really my thing. Got eaten alive both nights I slept there from bugs in my bed, along with numerous other guests complaining about it in my dorm. Also someone got their camera stolen and also a laptop went missing. In the day, there was lots of interruptions, construction, and maintenance.
Vibe-Analyse
