+ המקום מאוד נקי ומסודר, מיקום מאוד נגיש, העובדים מקפידים על סדר ניקיון ושקט
- המקום צמוד לסופר מרקט והרעש של המשאיות שפורקות סחורה ממש מורגש במהלך היום, כולל ריח מוגזם של גזי פליטה מהמשאיות. הבעלים והעובדים מקפידים מידי על שעות הצ׳ק אין וצ׳ק אאוט ברמה מוגזמת הכיריים במטבח היו מקולקלים מה שגרם לאנשים לחכות בתור להכין אוכל אווירה כללית בהוסטל כמו בבית קברות, שקט מידי ומדכא.
- Horrible experience with the owner/manager. I felt so intimidated and uncomfortable. This is also NOT a social hostel, no vibe or ambience at all. My friend visited the hostel (not a guest) and the receptionist said he could stay for lunch so long as he only stayed in the common area. Halfway through lunch the owner (an older bald male, spoke no English) aggressively told my friend he had to leave immediately. All he said was “go now”. I said the receptionist said it was okay, and asked if he could just finish his lunch. He shouted “NOW”. The owner was extremely rude and aggressive, trying to literally shoo him out and wouldn’t even let him pack his belongings. He said he was leaving and the owner looked furious, honestly like he could hit him. While he was packing his things up the owner grabbed his arm and tried to yank him up and out the hostel. I couldn’t believe it and told him not to touch him and that he was packing to leave! The owner followed him out all the way to the street. He treated him like a stray dog. From that point on the owner was giving me death stares for the rest of my stay, I felt so uncomfortable being there. On my last day after check out I asked if I could keep my baggage in storage until my 12pm bus. He said no and when I asked why he just said “no quiero”. After this incident I read the hostel reviews and all negative reviews are related to this same rude behaviour. Had I known he was like this before, I would not have given him my business. I’ve never experienced this kind of treatment from a hostel before. Ruined my stay and I urge you to stay elsewhere.

- La verdad todo lo bueno fue opacado por el trato del dueño o alguien del staff, argentino, que tenía un trato bastante humillante y hasta violento verbalmente, me tocó verlo con unas chicas españolas, pero luego me pasó a mi, creo que cuando se trabaja orientado al cliente y en turismo es esencial el buen trato y la asertividad para decir todo; sin esto hasta el mejor hotel del mundo queda mal... los chicos de recepción y la señora muy amables, educados y buena gente. Mucho cuidado sobre todo a mujeres porque había quizás algunos rasgos de machismo y/o misoginia en este hombre también.
+ El lugar está bien. Esta cerca de todo. Es cómodo pero tuve una horrible experiencia el primer día de mi llegada. El tipo el dueño del recinto me trató horrible solo por falta de comunicación. Es un argentino que no tiene trato me hizo sentir muy mal mi primer día de vacaciones. Si no fuera por su señora me hubiera tenido que retirar porque más encima el roto me pidió retirarme. Gracias a su señora se pudo aclarar la situación que por un error mío lo asumo se hubiera llevado de otra forma. No lo recomiendo solo por lo desagradable del argentino que de verdad fue muy incomodo todo.

He viajado a 60 países de todo el mundo y me he alojado en cientos de hoteles, pero nunca me he encontrado con un anciano tan testarudo. Esta es mi primera crítica negativa porque no me permitió utilizar la cocina y tuve que registrarme antes de utilizarla. Le rogué que no comiera en todo el día, solo me tomó diez minutos cocinar los fideos, pero no estuvo de acuerdo. Lo siento, quiero dar una mala crítica, ¡estoy muy decepcionada!
I have traveled to 60 countries around the world and stayed in hundreds of hotels, but I have never met such a stubborn old man. this is my first negative review because he did not allow me to use the kitchen and I had to register before using it. I begged him not to eat all day, it only took me ten minutes to cook the noodles, but he did not agree. sorry, I want to give a bad review, I am very disappointed!
The afternoon staff member is unprofessional and makes guests feel uncomfortable. She constantly stares, follows everything they do, and comments on matters that don’t concern her. Security is a major issue, as the dorms are not locked, allowing anyone to enter. - Rude and unpleasant staff, odd rules, and you required to wear a green wristband for the whole duration of your stay (I've never experienced this before in any hotel/hostel). The room had not been cleaned properly upon check-in, and there was no A/C or Wi-Fi in the room.

- I strongly suggest not staying at this hostel! The owner was very rude and didn't respect our needs. We're Jewish and vegan, but he wouldn't let us use our own dishes, and when we insisted, he asked us to leave. it was shocking! Some of the staff were nice, but the owner's behavior ruined everything. we saw on the internet that many people have had similar bad experiences due to the same manager. very bad experience!! do not approach

The landlord is rude and doesn't know how to deal with young guests. At 12 pm I left my room to go to the bathroom and found some friends in the hallway. We talked for 5 minutes and when 3 of them were retreating laughing, another told them to be quiet. At this moment the lord came up bullyingly and told us 'you two out on the street'. Then he accused me of assault for gently touching his shoulder to calm him down. I apologize if I bothered him. The next day he threw us out on the street
- No suelo escribir reseñas, hasta ahora solo si son positivas, pero esta vez me gustaría mencionar la mala experiencia que hemos tenido con el dueño del hostel. Todo fue muy bien en nuestra estancia pero el día que nos fuimos, pedimos permiso a la chica que estaba en recepción para dejar el equipaje guardado después de hacer el check out y no tener que cargar todo el día con las mochilas. Cuando volvimos a recogerlas, entramos para recoger comida que teníamos en la refri y el dueño se nos acercó para decirnos que ya no podíamos usar las instalaciones (solo íbamos a sacar nuestra comida) y por supuesto no nos permitió usar el baño ni rellenar la botella de agua para el viaje. Después volvió a acercarse para decirnos que teníamos que haber pedido permiso para dejar las mochilas, ademas dándonos a entender que para la próxima vez no nos dejaría alojarnos en el hostel por este motivo. Le respondí que lo habíamos hecho pero no le importó y siguió echándonos y diciendo que si no sabíamos leer (faltándonos al respeto de muy malas formas), porque al parecer había un cartel en recepción que decía que no se pueden usar las instalaciones a partir de las 3pm, aunque nadie nos informó, y por tanto no podíamos dejar el equipaje más tarde de esa hora, aunque nosotras habíamos llegado a las 3:30pm. En el cartel no estaba claro que el equipaje no se podía dejar más de las 3, simplemente que no se podía estar en la zona común del hostel. Por lo que hemos leído en las reseñas de google, esto mismo le ha pasado a más clientes. Mucha falta de educación para alguien que trabaja de cara al público, nunca me había pasado nada así en ningún alojamiento. La estancia fue buena pero esto arruinó todo, no recomiendo el hostel.

+ Great hostel in a very central location. Quiet and peaceful, very clean and spacious. It has all the necessary amenities, a well equipped kitchen and free coffee and water . We stayed in a private double room with our own bathroom , very comfortable, with a large bathroom and constant hot water. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful.
- We had no complaints at all and would happily stay here again.
+ Sehr nettes und hilfsbereites Personal, Gepäckaufbewahrung. Küche gut ausgestattet und sauber. Die Lage war gut, etwas ab vom lauten Stadtzentrum. Es gab viel Platz mit Tischen und Bänken drinnen und im Innenhof. Die Badezimmersituation war gut gelöst mit Kabinen für Dusche und Toilette und freien Waschbecken davor. Dort war alles gut sauber. Die Klimaanlage im Zimmer konnte selbst gesteuert werden.
- Im Zimmer gab es nachts eine Klimaanlage, die im Zimmer gesteuert werden konnte. Leider waren in meinem Zimmer Leute, die es eisig kalt mochten und so hab ich nachts gefroren mit langen Sachen (obwohl es draußen tags heiß und nachts ausreichend kühl war). Zur Klimaanlage lief zusätzlich ein Ventilator... Gleichzeitig waren immer die Fenster offen, also ziemliche Energieverschwendung.
The location was gut, something ab vom lauten Stadtzentrum. There was plenty of space with tables and benches inside and im Innenhof. The bathroom situation was gut solved with Cabins für Dusche und Toilette und freies Waschbecken davor. There was everything gut cleaner. The air conditioning in Zimmer could be self-controlled. + Lugar limpio y con buen ambiente. La ubicación es perfecta para conocer Puerto viejo. Nos quedamos en la habitación para dos y todo bien, te limpian la habitación diariamente.
The location is perfect to get to know Puerto Viejo. we stayed in the room for two and all is well, your room is cleaned daily.

Great value for money for the area. Room was cleaned daily. Hot shower. Well kitted out kitchen kept clean and tidy and short walk to all amenities including supermarket right next door!

+ Es war alles sauber, das Zimmer sehr schön und der ganze Flair ganz wunderbar. Es ist alles fußläufig erreichbar, wobei es bei dem Pagalù Hostel trotzdem ruhig ist.

Tolle Küche, alles super sauber, schöne Aufenthaltsbereiche/Hängematten, nettes Personal und top Lage mit Supermarkt direkt nebenan. Leider haben die Zimmer etwas modrig gerochen und auch der Schrank. Ansonsten total schön und empfehlenswert!!

+ This hostel is very clean (especially the common kitchen) and the staff is friendly (always greeting and helpful). You can easily explore Puerto Viejo by foot from this location and enjoy a relatively peaceful night (due to Santa Semana it was busier than usual).
- The double room needs more furniture (a chair, hooks or more shelving). A small mirror would have been also a nice addition.
