One Decision Hostel

This hostel was unfortunately not my cup of tea. I spent two weeks staying in different hostels across Sri Lanka (ranging from €3 to €30 per night), and for me this was the worst experience. Even though I was quite enthusiastic after reading the reviews online. The volunteers here made our time. They were so so accommodating when one of our friends got sick. Ben was lovely but unfortunately the other owners weren’t very welcoming and when our friend had to go to hospital they provided no help. The social aspect was good, we went to taco Tuesday and a club night, so so fun. Great communal space. A great stay and would highly recommend but would have been a higher rating if the owners were better.

Nette Mitarbeiter und alles sehr unkompliziert. Lage ist nicht zentral oder direkt am Strand aber es fahren dort viele Busse und tuktuks. Viele Aktivitäten zum socializen. Ausstattung ist eher simpel und insbesondere die Bäder sind leider nicht besonders sauber.

This hostel has potential! Great facilities, social area, and rooms. We stayed in low season, and it’s newly opened so is still finding its rhythm. It was understandably quiet but with activities and more structured social events, the vibe could take off. During our stay the social atmosphere felt flat even at family dinner. It would’ve been nice if the team had made more of an effort to connect with guests or facilitate conversation. That said, thanks to Shane and Ben for the evening chats...

Was fun. Loevely people over there. Just a bit outside but with the bikes you can rent there its no problem.

This hostel was good in organising social events and meeting new people. Cute dog too! Only downside, the room didn’t look like it had been cleaned on the floor etc but it was nice and quiet to sleep in for a short stay.

All in all a good hostel to come to! They have activities and a nice hang out area as well as a small outdoor kitchen (!) the guests can use. If you want to check out early you should make sure to talk to them in advance since there is no one up „early“ in the morning (until 8:30 h I didn’t see anyone around). Anyways I enjoyed my stay!

It is a nice accomodation with very friendly staff!! But the dorm was a bit dirty.

Nice place to stay, very friendly owners and staff. Rooms are clean and have AC. Some nice activities available like surflessons, family dinner or movie nights.

I booked a couple of nights and stayed longer... it’s that kind of place. Great energy, close to the beach, and super easy to meet people. The staff organize lots of activities and the family dinner was a highlight. If you’re thinking about it, just book it. It’s worth it ❤️

Ben the owner is very accomodating and made my stay here great. We watched movies on the projector in the evening and had surfing lessons in the day. The beds are super comfy with airconned rooms. And the family meals were delicious. Would recommend stay here if you want family vibes and maybe a lil party once in a while too ☺️

Sehr schönes Hostel in Unawatuna. Die Volunteers sind alle super nett und helfen in allen Lagen. Der Vibe ist super und perfekt um ein paar Tage zu chillen.

Had the best time, everyone that worked there was very welcoming and inclusive! Took us surfing, had an amazing family dinner and played pool. Also had the cutest doggy ever ❤️🐶

One Decision Hostel was my stay before heading home and I can‘t recommend this place more. I stayed there for 5 nights and had the best time. Not only did the owners take care of us like in no other hostels, they also made us feel like a family. They offered to take us to their favorite surfing spot, organized the nicest evenings such as family dinner and trivia and looked out for our safety and well being at all costs. They really are doing this with all their heart. Thanks for a lovely stay!

I highly recommend this hostel to any backpackers I felt welcome from the moment I arrived, the vibe is so chill, friendly, and relaxed. Ben, Shane, and Nico are incredible hosts who make everyone feel included. Even when I was the only female, I felt completely at home and comfortable. Such a great atmosphere and lovely people all around. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a fun and welcoming place to stay

Great hostel, with a lovely common area. The owners were all super sound. Defo one of those places you get stuck in or come back to!

This hostel was a dream come true for me. Aussie, Austrian and Canadian owners. Everyone very friendly, one of the owners took me out scuba diving which was a really nice gesture. The Aussie owner Ben, was also super friendly and we all had a nice night out. Lots of love to the one decision hostel 🥰

Amazing hostel, vibe and staff. First i just booked for 2 nights but stayed for a week. I would definitly recommend it.

Tolles Hostel! Super freundliches Personal, saubere Zimmer und eine richtig entspannte Atmosphäre. Die Lage ist perfekt und man fühlt sich sofort willkommen. Würde jederzeit wieder hier übernachten – absolute Empfehlung! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Promised a short poem: I made one decision, just passing through, but the chill-owner-dudes and and lovely volunteers said, “Welcome to you!”. Hanging out late into the night, somehow turning chilling into a whole vibe. Coco the dog sweet, fluffy and cool, probably the real boss of the whole hostel crew. A really relaxed, social vibe without anything feeling forced. The team is super open and welcoming. The location is a bit outside as described, which actually makes it perfect to chill away from the busy streets. Still, everything you need (grocery, restaurants) is right around the corner, and the beach/Unawatuna is only a 5-minute tuk-tuk ride. The guys are also well connected with locals if you need help or want to rent a scooter, surf, or dive for a good price. Can recommend :)

It was a good and social hostel. The Volunteers were very nice and offered many group activities. The hostel isn‘t direct in the City you always have to take a tuktuk to go somewere. But all in all it was a very good experience.

Eines der besten Hostels in denen wir waren. Super liebe Besitzer und Freiwillige, hatten die beste Zeit mit ihnen. Haben nur 2 Nächte gebucht, haben aber 3 weitere Nächte verlängert weil es uns so gut gefallen hat. Und ich habe mich in den Hund Coco verliebt.
