Oban Backpackers

The bed was very uncomfortable. Mattress very thin, was like lying on a bare board. Top bunks were not secure. The room was too crowded. No chairs to put clothes and bags on, I have stayed in many hostels and this was the most spartan of all

Not clean at all, no plugs, and thin foam mattresses. While the staff were friendly they didn't keep on top of things that needed fixing (one of the loos had no light...) or restocking (no loo roll for two days in one of the loos. Loos also clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. Plug socket in the dorm was just a stack in the corner that didn't feel secure.

2 out of 5 only showers were in working order, sleeping on wooden boards, very uncomfortable, too many noisy people first thing in the morning

We had a person with mental health problems in the hostel (dealt with by the police at 1.30am) and it was quite rowdy in the living room mid evening

The staff are friendly and it’s decorated in a chill way with a social and friendly vibe. The way it lets you down is the facilities, THIN and I mean THIN foam mattress feel like your sleeping on a wooden plank. No plugs in the room. The building is old and needs some updating, it was windy (which it is a lot in Scotland) and the window was just rattling the whole night, to the point parts of its wooden frame flew off into the room. Could be great if it just had some updating.

Nice hostel in good location. Shame check in is so late at 5pm. Lots of hanging around waiting for check in to open and there was a large queue because of this. Good showers and facilities, friendly staff.

No lockers available in the room, bed were that uncomfortable that you touch the wooden board, no blackout curtains, very little spaces to eat, the showers were not on the bedroom floor (mixed gender bathrooms). The cleanness is not great either (a bad smell in the hostel). Would not recommend, only if it’s for a night.

Showers were great, breakfast at £4.50 was a ripoff, (no toaster, mouldy bread very little choice). No secure facilities for bike storage, room for four bikes on an upstairs landing accessible to anll!!). Atmosphere was very muted. Don’t think I’ll stay here again. Rating of 6 perhaps a bit generous!

The staff was friendly and the hostel was overall a good deal. The toilets on ground floor were extremely smelly, please take care of it!

The location is good for the town. I wasn’t too impressed with the person who checked me in. I felt I was interrupting her evening. Having said that, I got a good night’s sleep in the dormitory on the second floor. N.B. The showers for everyone are on the first floor.

Lovely experience, the staff were so friendly and it was suck a comforting atmosphere. Would recommend to anybody coming to Oban.

Great hostel - really nice relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff. No lockers for your stuff or curtains for the bunks tho, which would’ve made the stay even better.

Lovely hostel (except for the snoring people but that is not the hostels fault). Great staff, location and facilities.

Enjoyed a very brief stay here. Sturdy and clean wooden beds and clean bathrooms! But be aware that there's no luggage room, you basically just drop you luggage in the common area which was a bit unexpected for me but worked out fine nonetheless. The location is great though, just a 5 min walk to the harbour and the main attractions.

Staff were great. Allow you to keep bikes in the hostel and let me leave it there a couple of hours after checkout. No lockers but this isn't unusual. £4.50 gets you a cereal, pastry and toast breakfast. Handy location near the centre of town. Would recommend and would stay again.

staff was very friendly, the kitchen is great. the walk to and from everywhere you need to go is manageable, the rooms are clean.

ive never stayed in a hostel before, but this place made me feel like i should have a long time ago!! the people here are wonderful, great vibes the whole time :))

Très bon emplacement, proche du centre et des différents transports (bus- bateau). Chambres spacieuses même si pas de casier individuel. Manque un peu de sanitaires (douche et WC). Personnel très sympa et jovial :)

Great location in Oban, with friendly and helpful staff. Bike storage was inside the hostel, but not secured in a locked room. Would be good to have a bar or hooks to lock the bike to as it is an open area within the hostel.

Really great stay here! My favorite stop in the UK. Nothing fancy everything is functional and clean. Staff is really wonderful and social and welcoming. I’d recommend at least 3 nights here, there’s tons of isles to visit and explore.

My favourite hostel so far! The staff and especially the volunteers were lovely. Never felt alone or unsafe as a solo traveler. Perfect if you’re trying to meet other travelers and are looking for a cosy atmosphere.

Four of us stayed one night on the way to the islands. Perfect time! Super friendly staff, enjoyed playing pool and hanging in the common room. Comfy beds, clean showers. Highly recommend.
