Really disappointed with my uncomfortable stay at Kaloo/La Posada Belen. I’m not sure why all the other reviews are so favorable unless they were submitted by very low budget travelers with equally low standards/expectations. From the moment I checked in I was displeased and uncomfortable with my stay. The receptionist is hard to find/consult as he floats around the hotel. My room (private room with private bathroom) had a musty/moldy smell and I was only provided bath towels - no floor mats f...

I booked for 3 nights. After a long day of traveling, I arrived in the dark and they had double-booked my bed. There were no beds available anymore, even though I had already paid the deposit and had a booking confirmation. The owner refused to come to the reception to look for a solution. I used the bathroom and it was disgusting. The whole hostel had a really creepy atmosphere. The free laundry and food are not worth it.

The owner started installing a sauna downstairs next to the bedroom I was in and the smoke filled the corridor and my bedroom (no windows to the outside so choking us all out) from early until after 10pm - also noisy. 1. The sign for location is not updated to the actual advertised hostel name making it confusing to find 2. When entered there was no one at the reception a teenager was present and was (I am assuming) calling the owner when no one showed up he showed us to our room but we didn't pay until checkout due to lack of staff andthe other group that came in at same time as us was not checked in for 2+ hours later 3. The beds were comfy and it was a great stay for the night! Not a super social hostel but I still managed to make a few connections. Carlos was really great and helpful! Wasn’t overally impressed with it.

Tolle Unterkunft mit einem super familiären Konzept!

Beds are comfy but since there are no bunk beds it lacks of privacy. But you know that before you book. The shower is not really warm, it's just not cold and water pressure could be better. it's nice to have 24/7 free fruits, bread and eggs. That's what makes the hostel special. Besides of that it's a little less than a standard hostel.

the room I was in smelled really bad and the bathroom had loads of black mould. The staff were kind of weird, I asked if I could leave my bags with them because I arrived early and they said they'd bring them to my room but asked if I had any cash inside which made me uncomfortable. The location is kinda on the edge of San Marcos too and the roadworks made accessibg the property from the port very hard

Ooo these ratings are high and idk why 💀 Had to stay one night and this place did the job. Staff and free breakfast gets 10 ⭐️’s! Other than that, place is smaller then expected, cold shower (that flooded), no really comfy common area. Location is pretty center to a lot of things. Overall, respectfully nothing to rave about.

This was an amazing place with great staff and super walkable! Carlos the owner is awesome and really goes out of his way to make sure all of his guest have the best experience possible! Definitely will be back!

Wow! Amazing beautiful hostel. Carlos has not long had it going but has put the most into it being a great stay. Massive beds, lovely terrace and the best thing is all the free food he provides you can eat at any point included in the breakfast- breads, fruits, pastry, cereals, eggs, yogurts, even wine! So kind! Don’t miss out on staying here

Really good hostel. A little quieter than some hostels but a great place to relax. Nice rooms with nice staff and volunteers. Also offer free laundry and they have some food as well which was generous. Defo would reccomend.

J’ai logé ici 4j lors de mon passage au lac et je n’aurais pas pu rêver mieux. L’emplacement est idéale, à deux pas des belles rues de San Juan et des lanchas. La vue sur la terrasse est magistrale, la cuisine extérieure est un + . Ma chambre était propre et bien fournie (cadenas, tiroir, serviette), le lit double est un vrai confort dans ce type d’auberge! Lessive + nourriture à disposition :) Le personnel était adorable et s’assurait du bien être des voyageurs. Je recomm...

Had a great stay here. Carlos, Ronny, and team were extremely welcoming. The free food was fantastic and so useful - you can request Carlos to refill the avocados and eggs etc. and by the morning they will be there! Room was nice but could get stinky easily without much ventilation. The shower could have been better and warmer too.

Our stay at KALOO was really amazing!! We (a group of 3 girls) were there for 3 nights and we really liked the cozy and friendly vibes there. The owner was super nice and made us feel at home. It was social in its own way, just a small group of really friendly people to chat with at the rooftop terrace (which is amazing) The kitchen was well occupied, even with free ingredients! The beds were amazing, the only point of improvement was the water pressure, showering was kind of a challenge.

Das Hostel war etwas chaotisch und hat nicht die beste Ausstattung, aber das war nicht so wichtig, da Carlos dafür extrem herzlich war. Sein Konzept, dass im Hostel alles inklusive ist, finde ich genial. Lebensmittel, Getränke und Bier sind komplett kostenlos. Es fühlte sich mehr wie eine WG an als ein Hostel.

El mejor hostal alrededor del lago, la atención siempre fue muy buena, siempre al pendiente de todo y siempre ofreciendo ayuda. Las habitaciones son muy cómodas, limpias y bien espaciosas. La cocina es concepto abierto, puedes comer lo que desees 1000000/10

¡El mejor hospedaje de todo Guatemala! Carlos su dueño es de las mejores personas que conocerás. El servicio incluye cocina abierta así que puedes cocinarte y comer lo que quieras. También hay bebidas gratis. Pero lo mejor: sus personas. Increíble.

Best hostel in san juan. Double beds, free use of the kitchen filled daily, free beers and alcohol, very nice owner and vonunteers and very nice vibe.

Carlos and his staff are working hard to grant everyone a nice stay at the hostel. I was really surprised when I found out that doing laundry and the food in the kitchen were for free! Could be more bathrooms (2) for the Hostel but it worked out. Nice view from the rooftop.

Very good hostel, social atmosphere. Free food throughout the whole day and free laundry. Staff is very friendly, and the owner Carlos is always happy to help

Superbe auberge. Les chambres sont confortables et propres et le personnel très sympathique. Qui plus est, la cuisine est un véritable lieu de partage où plein de denrées sont partagées. J’y retournerai les yeux fermés

Comfortable beds, amazing view from the rooftop. FREE FOOD ALL DAY with fruit, bread, eggs, etc in kitchen. FREE LAUNDRY. The staff were amazing; even took me to get food from a local stand and paid for me. Did a weaving workshop across the street as well from a wonderful family. Had an absolutely amazing stay. They really care. I wish I could’ve stayed longer than 4 days . I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to in this case. Just wish water pressure was a little higher

Carlos the owner is so kind and helpful. It’s in the heart of san juan, the beds are so comfy, there’s lots of free food for you to help yourself to and the free washing was also a bonus. We loved it here and didn’t want to leave

i absolutely loved my stay at kaloo!! best hostel i’ve stayed in my life honestly!! the people are soo nice, they include laundry service, host barbeques, clean all the time, provide loads of food and the cats are just the cutest!! 11/10 (there are only two bathrooms though)
