- I had to leave the place before even stepping into my booked room due to the appalling smell of cigarettes and damp at the reception, as well as the members of staff not being inviting. Because of that, I did not feel safe staying there and had to find another place.

This hostel was extremely basic, to say the least.there was paint peeling of the ceiling of our room. The beds and pillows were like bricks. I put stuff in the fridges and they were not clean and smelled bad. We only stayed one night from 23.30 till 8.00 and I would not have liked to stay longer. There is another hostel in kirkwall which is cheaper, cleaner, has en-suite facilities, a fridge, and tea and coffee making items in the room

- The mattress was awful. It was impossible to sleep. In the morning the staff said they’d already had a few complaints about the mattress. It needs replacing - you could feel the springs and it was like lying on a cattle grid.

Friendly staff and good location for Kirkwall centre.
Came for parkrun. Bit further out of town 20 min walk uphill bit but definitely right choice.
My week at Kirkwall Hostel was great. Staff friendly, ready to answer queries on buses, locations, etc. Enjoyed the continental breakfast. Location was perfect. 15 minutes walk into Kirkwall, could enjoy regular walks and other way a nice 15-20 minute walk to Scapa Bay. Had private room, en-suite not available, shower rooms were good size & lots available. Hostel is an older building than some but they offer value, location, helpfulness. Lounge was lovely. Everything clean. Thanks

+ Très bien équipé et spacieux
+ Clean, comfortable beds, excellent lounge and kitchen. Staff were so helpful and friendly. One of the nicest hostels I have stayed in, and I have stayed in a lot!
- My only criticism is the soap dispensers in the toilets were empty or almost empty. I did mention it but I then just used the one toilet that I knew had soap.
