Baobab Backpacker Hostel

When I arrived, I saw a sign that says “Beauty Land”, so at first I thought it was a beauty salon or hairdresser rather than a hostel. It’s important to note that this place is actually an apartment with rooms, not a conventional hostel. By “conventional,” I mean a place where there is usually staff available for most of the day to assist guests. Here, the owners do not live on-site, and occasionally the owner’s nephew is present, but for much of the day there is no one available.

The bathroom was seriously dirty and this just ruined everything. You can overlook a lot of things if the bathroom is clean, but this was awful. I did not shower at this property because it was so bad.

very friendly staff. there is a cat, and it's dander is everywhere so if you have allergies, don't stay here. it's not the cleanest hostel, but for the price you get what you pay for.

Pictures are outdated and there is only a shared area also used as a salon, beds are very hard with no curtains so 0 privacy. Location is very good. Staff are helpful though they went on holiday during my stay

You live in a Chinese apartment for a time. It comes with pros and cons. On one side you get the meet interesting people, share part of life, etc. But at the same time, they have their own life, and so they may not have the same amount of availability as hostels employees. Also, it’s a lively house. That means fighting for toilets and having people moving around. Overall, I had a great time, the location is fine, the people were kind. When you arrived from Lo Wu is a good place to stay nit to far from the border. Just have to know that you arrived to a appartement without reception, all is manage via mail, go on 26 floor and get the key to go on in. The room is ok but the bed is very hard, shower and bathroom fine.

Really cute and cozy hostel ! The hosts are super friendly and nice, they are also very convenient and give you a lot of advice about the city and the restaurants. Their cat is ADORABLE (she's such a diva though). The property is mostly clean but the bathroom floor was always wet and kinda dirty. Otherwise the view of the skyline from the 26th floor is insane and the room was really cute. The beds mattresses on the other hand are very hard. Overall I enjoyed my stay there.

The hostel is in a great location, close to the subway and a mall. I really enjoyed my stay here—the owner was super helpful, answered all my questions and even gave me a list of recommendations for things to do in Shenzhen. Highly recommended :)

This hostel is such a gem! It has a nice, cozy, familiar energy. The owners are incredibly kind and so dedicated to helping their guests. They even helped me send a package to my chinese friend! The beds are so comfy. And yes, THEY HAVE A CAT. They LOVE cats! The atmosphere is so nice and social. I have been travelling for so long, and I was so happy to be at a place that felt so homey. I wholeheartedly reccommend it and I will definitely be returning here!

Feels more like a homestay than a hostel, the hosts are lovely and super helpful. Plus they have a cute cat. Next time I'm in Shenzhen I'll be coming back here for sure.

Had an amazing stay here! Very good atmosphere and comfortable room. The view from the private rooms was amazing! Jesse was also fun to talk to and extremely helpful. I would recommend anyone visiting Shenzhen to stay here!

Anything you want from a hostel. Amazing value. The hosts were really nice and kind as well, giving me recommendations for places to go, and fruits as I was checking out. 10 minute walk from 2 stations, connecting really well to the pedestrian street and the electronics street. Definitely recommend for east Shenzhen. Only con is the bathroom is not extremely modern. Oh also the view from the room is insane!

i had a great time staying at Baobab hostel. Jesse and Summer were very helpful. If i come back to Shenzhen, surely going to stay with them again.

one of the best hostels I have been to in China for the price. It was very clean and felt very safe. near to the train station. The hostel cat is very noisy but incredibly sweet once you befriend them. Owner Jesse is very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

I really loved my stay at Baobab Hostel. The host is very friendly and helped me explore the city with detailed instructions. The place was easy to find, had a very homely vibe. It is located at the center of the city with a metro station and a mall nearby.

Jesse, the owner, is awesome. that's all I have to say.My flight got delayed twice, so instead of arriving at 7 PM, I arrived at the hostel 3 AM. It was Labor day, so it was crazy packed everywhere.I did let him know, and he amazingly fast responded and let me know in details the directions to hostel (1st time In China). And he actually WAITED for me, even when it was not needed.He was available for guidance, going out of his way to accommodate any need.VERY well located, 100% recommended.

The hostel is reachable by a variety of public transportation and is very well located. The instructions to get there are clear and the owner is extremely helpful to help you arrive, settle and understand how to get by on china and the city. I couldn't have been better served.
