TLDR: I won't stay there again EVER. Pros: 1) walkable to Paia town that has some a lot of good food/drink options. 2) a lot of street parking 3) quiet and laid back 4) clean Cons: 1) One my second day, when I returned to the dorm in the evening after a day at beach, I didn't find any of my stuff there. Upon asking the front desk, I was told that they just put all of my stuff in a plastic basket because they want me to move to a different room because apparently they had over booked. They didn't...
Pros: 10 minute walk to the beach. Free tours you just need to tip the driver. It was safe. Staff was more or less nice. Towel for rent $3. Cons: cockroaches and mice wandering around this place. It was very unpleasant to keep seeing them and to try to fall asleep. These cockroaches fly! Any food you leave in the kitchen the mice eat it. Breakfast that supposed to be free is a coffee that tasted bad, and pancake mix. There are only few toilets and showers.
Aloha is an option for travelers staying in Paia to explore the surf town, and for travelers who want to watch TV at night instead of socializing. It’s suitable if you’re looking to fix your sleep cycle (lights out in the common areas at 10pm), rent your bath towels ($3) and learn to cook your own pancake breakfast. The bathrooms are sparse, tiny, lack basic amenities (clothes hooks, common toiletries, clean floors). Out of all the staff, Alyssa was extremely helpful and polite! Thanks Alyss...
Cons: no locker/safe in room some of staff not helpful/unfriendly no free towels cash key deposit needed expensive Pros: nice location nice kitchen and common room great (free) tours
The daily trips they organise are good. No hot water and limited showers. Weren’t enough lockers in the room for each person. Easy enough to get to on the bus from the airport!
Great facilities and very clean hostel overall. Unfortunately, the volunteer atmosphere really takes away from the experience. The volunteers don’t engage with guests at all, not even a simple hello and tend to occupy the common areas all day. Instead of creating a welcoming vibe, they often come across as distant and judgmental. On top of that, our food has been going missing, which is very disappointing and makes the stay feel uncomfortable and untrustworthy.
The least social hostel I have been to so not very fun if your solo traveler. however the facilities are good and you will get your beauty sleep.
Nice hostel, in a location where you need a car though. Two major points all the daily tours and surfboard rental is $20, there seems to be more staff than guests who seem to have their own clique.
My partner and I stayed one night in the private room. Brooks welcomed us and checked us in. He was amazing! So cheerful and kind! Showed us around and told us all we needed to know. The facilities were pretty clean, especially for a hostel. Also loved having some access to a couple private bathrooms! Wished we had time to join one of their tours but we were flying out. Loved the pancake breakfast included. Only complaint was paying around $300cad for the one night at a hostel, but, it’s Maui.

My first time on Maui and all the staff and people in the hostal were incredible
it was great!!! besides one employee calling me by my non preferenced name despite repeated asks and begging to not. that was awful. but the rest was extremely great! clean and the other guests were amazing
Amazing hostel, amazing staff, amazing tours. All around amazing stay!
Very welcoming and clean. The location is close to shops, restaurants, and the beach. Plenty of kitchen space to use. There are planned events each day. I went on a hike tour and had a lot of fun! I would definitely stay here again😊
This hostel has an amazing community vibe with guests from all over the world who quickly feel like a little family. Staff are super friendly and keep everyone updated on what’s happening around town. Rooms, beds, and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. During a storm, the owners went above and beyond to help guests whose flights were canceled. Hot tub, fire pit, and common areas make it easy to meet people. Great affordable stay in Maui.
One of the best hostels I have ever stayed at! Great atmosphere, laid back vibes located in a very cute town. They even offered free tours every day. I am def going to come back!
I came to this hostel at the beginning of a massive storm, and the hostel was nothing but great to me. I witnessed them help other people out who were caught in the storm and had no place to go and they went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was safe the whole week of chaos. This was a unique situation where I spent more time in the hostel than on the island itself and I highly recommend this hostel and it’s tours!
Aloha surf is amazing! I have now visited three times in the last few years and I definitely plan on coming back! The staff are incredible, the tours are amazing (shoutout Jarod) and the location is central the beaches, restaurants, and shops (less than a mile walk to all!) overall amazing vibes
really nice hostel! the kitchen & common areas are really nice and cozy and the outdoor area as well! also nice for solo traveling because you meet a lot of cool people there :) would recommend
The vibe is sooo nice!! You could socialize so easy. I absolutely can recommend This hostel :) I loved it
the place was ok. there was some inconvenience. for instance, the bathrooms weren't that clean. it was missing some toilet paper also. location wise, it's near Paia where there's a lot of little shops, but if you want groceries, you have to travel 15 minutes. On the plus side, there's a lot of entertainment offered.
Great hostel with all you can need, and more! I did not expect a spa a such a good vibe. Perfect stay.
The hostel was clean and the staff was super friendly. Noisy at night but people respected the quiet hours. Easy walk to the beach. Wish I'd planned to do some of the free group trips because they looked fun. Overall wonderful experience and I plan to stay at Aloha Surf Hostel on my next trip to Maui
This might be the cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed at! It’s also incredibly social and the group tours are great. The location is unbeatable for Maui. This is my third time staying here and I will continue staying here in the future.
Really good hostel. Good community. Just a tip: most travelers just fly with carry on and can't take shampoo in their bags (due to TSA restrictions). Having free shampoo at the showers saves us from buying a shampoo and throwing it away after 3 uses...
Staff were friendly, hostel was clean. Great location.
12/10 Staff phenomenal Daily trips phenomenal Fridge space and kitchen space phenomenal Location phenomenal Stay here
What a beautiful place and such a fantastic budget option to explore Maui!! Bathrooms and kitchen were cleaned often and social areas were comfortable. I was able to take the Maui bus here and there is a gorgeous beach within walking distance. The daily tours are such a wonderful addition to an already great place!! Loved it here!!
This was my first hostel experience and it was way more than I expected. The daily tours and the guides are all amazing and helpful. I would highly recommend even over a fancy hotel to meet people and get to experience the island. Aloha :) Jaime and Marty Plus +++++ they have a hot tub, grill and pool table outside in the communal area
