Sven's Basecamp Hostel

I was really looking forward to my stay at this location - I am going to be completely honest about my experience. I did not feel safe staying at this hostel as a female. There are no locks on the doors and I was the only female in the room beside one night with a single female. I experienced a bad situation with someone getting into my room in the middle of the night. Not a family-friendly setting—no kids, just single men and one couple. I won’t go back!

Not agree charge money for shower

The location is distant from shopping or attractions. One of the three on-site bathrooms was out of order. The shower was coin-operated at $0.25/min and the only towels were for rent at $3.00. This should be disclosed on the website. The term "cabin" for some of the places should be "tent." There was insufficient light and only one overburdened electrical outlet. One of us had a spider come down on her while relaxing in bed.

Great location. Have to put a quarter in to shower for a minute. Smelled clean but honestly just needs an upgrade. Rooms and the bedding is old and could use an upgrade. Really cool treehouses and huts but not the greatest would have spent a little more to stay in hotel. Staff really nice and again perfect location close to everything

Svens hostel was adequate, but nothing that memorable. Pros...BIG kitchen, on-site coffee cafe, decent wifi. Cons...Coin-Op showers, no real indoor "common room/area"(outdoor bugs were INSANE), no bars, restaurants close by &

Super Leute dort, Lage sehr gut, Zeltbaumhaus Spitze, die ganze Anlage schon außergewöhnlich, für alle Altersgruppen eine Alternative zum Hotel, werde alles weiter empfehlen

This was a great place to stay. It was relaxed. Things worked. The staff was super friendly. The shared bath and restroom facilities were pleasant and clean overall. Things seem well run and I felt safe. Its not in the most walk friendly location, but within 15 minutes are some resturants and grocery stores.

I loved staying at Sven’s! I stayed in a tent dorm room and thought it was great

This was a great place to stay. It was relaxed. Things worked. The staff was super friendly. The shared bath and restroom facilities were pleasant and clean overall. Things seem well run and I felt safe. Its not in the most walk friendly location, but within 15 minutes are some resturants and grocery stores.

Für Alaska-Verhältnisse günstigste Unterkunft. Im Wald und doch nicht weit zu Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Sven und sein Team sind superfreundlich und hilfsbereit. Jedes mal wieder hierhin, wenn ich nach Alaska komme.

Friendly safe warm environment close to the airport

Nice places to stay: huts, tree house, tents, etc. -- different to many other hostels. Nice experience! (However, very outdoorsy, it's nothing for people who don't like nature)

Absolutely delightful staff, facilities, sleeping setup, access, shared space, work space, lounge space. Felt very safe and comfortable! Staff was responsive to requests and questions. Shuttle to / from airport or train station would be a plus, but taxi service was available. Coffee shop onsite and wi-fi worked great to have access to the office even while in Alaska! Sven was pleasant and kind. Great job!

I stayed here only for a night. My experience was wonderful. The lady who speaks Swiss German helped me with the check-in procedure and showed me around the hostel. She is awesome. I will certainly stay at this hostel if I come to Fairbanks again.

This was my first time staying at a hostel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the grounds were beautiful and our cabin perfect. The staff seems to really enjoy their jobs. Would love to work for a company like this. I will be back for another stay. I would definitely rate this a 10 out of 10.

Our stay at Sven's Basecamp was so amazing. We had so much fun and the camp was awesome! Really good vibes from everyone. Only reason I didn't give the staff a total 10 is because we had one girl that just acted annoyed with us when we asked questions. Thought maybe she was having a bad day but she was the same the next day. But whatever, everyone else was so nice and welcoming! Me got to hear some cool travel stories from some of the staff and we, ultimately, had a great time.

Amazing experience, I will remember this spot for sure. The staff were all pretty rad, the wind was high during my stay and they promptly cleared away the trees. I stayed in one of the two treehouses. the atmosphere here is unparalleled. I'd come back to Fairbanks just to stay here again. I also met a bunch of Really great people. Seriously one of the most fun hostel experiences I've had during my travels.

Place is a really good one, with lots of privacy and nature.The Staff were not experienced for Hospitality Industry at all. The Guests should always be Number One Priority but here the European Untrained Interns were disaster. On July 03, 2022 (prior to US Independence Day) evening, I noticed the Staff Occupy the Table infront of the Cafe and opening alcoholic bottles and wine, having a Good Time. While, Guest were sitting in their tents and watching the Staff. This is a poor business model.
