Hostal Pension Artilleiro

Do yourself a favor and avoid booking this place. It’s overpriced, far from both the cathedral and bus station, and the room I booked (room 14) had a bed bug infestation (4+ adult and baby bed bugs seen). I have been trying to get a refund with no luck. The last day of my vacation was spent washing and drying my clothes, and I was afraid of bringing bed bugs back home, so I do believe compensation (which they confirmed they would provide) should have been given. When I reported the bed bugs, they immediately took responsibility, but then tried to put the blame on me and the other places I have stayed. I checked every single bed during my trip, even had bed bug spray, sprayed all my stuff with permethrin before my trip and never saw signs of bed bugs along my trip UNTIL this overpriced hostel. We stayed 2 nights at this hostel and didn't notice the bugs until the second night when we had to get up at 4am (they were feeding on us at this time) and walk 45 mins to the bus station. Someone had the same complaint about bed bugs just a week earlier (Sept 29, 2025, review that I unfortunately missed before booking). I am updating this review due to a lengthy and unusual message I received from the property last night, threatening legal action against me for assuming they did not take care of the issue. I can't assume they still have bed bugs, but they had bed bugs in September and October, as reported by another reviewer and me.

Bed bugs

- humidity. All the walls under the both windows were covered with mold (picture attached). - no heating during cold and rainy period. The attic room I had was cold and humid. A dehumidifier was there, but was not enough. - rude, unhelpful and physically absent staff. The only solution to my request to turn on the heating was for me to find another hotel with reimbursement of only half of the amount paid. They really insisted I shall leave. I’ve never felt so unwelcome. I contacted them on the last day asking for early breakfast and the way to the airport and they have never answered. - bedbugs. I start to have skin irritation after first night and on my last night I found bedbugs in the bed. I could not sleep the whole night. - bad insulation. There was a couple fighting next door in the middle of the night and I could hear everything. As a result, 2 sleepless nights out of 3, only 2 breakfasts.
