The Royal Rat Hostel

Sehr weit vom Zentrum entfernt, wir sind dorthin getrampt, man kann aber auch ein Taxi nehmen. Ansonsten ruhige Gegend, nettes Personal, moderne Ausstattung und ein kleiner Pool zum Relaxen.

I booked the Royal Rat Hostel weeks in advance on Hostelworld. My friends and I traveled 3 hours to come to the Royal Rat Hostel and no one was there. I called and emailed and never got a response and we sat there for more than an hour. To this day a month later I never got a response or even a refund on my deposit. It was like a ghost town-- no one on the property, not even other guests. Thank goodness the bathroom was open. We were able to walk up the street to the neighbor that rents cars...

Loved my time here! Mark and Sheila are wonderful hosts and made the stay homey and special. I didn’t realize how far the property was from placencia proper (4km, about 1 hr walking). Not a huge problem as hitching a ride is common and easy but still was a little bit of a hassle to deal with. The common area is nice; the pool is a plus and the kitchen well stocked. When it rains the seating availability shrinks quite a bit but on a clear day it’s divine! Would stay again

The property is great, with perfectly new and clean facilities, comfortable beds and a great common area with pool! The only downside is the location as its a little hard to reach from the water taxi station, but manageable by taxi, bike, or hitchhiking. The owners were great and interested in helping you and talking with their guests, a big plus was the dog Bella! probably one of my favorite hostels in Belize. Mark and Sheila are such a vibe!! They’re lovely people and great to talk to. the communal areas are perfect for relaxing and socialising. the pool and free bikes are a huge plus. eveything in the hostel is clean and they have an amazing kitchen for cooking.

A clean, fun wonderful hostel for the price. Kinda in-between towns so not much going on, but they have free bikes you can take to town or call a cab.

I was here for 6 nights and I loved it! Very clean and nice facilities. The pool is great, the kitchen is clean and very useable, and the rooms all have curtains and fans. It’s far from the town so plan for that, and it was pretty quiet but I enjoyed how peaceful it was and the privacy of not having a full dorm room of people. Thank you!

Great hostel… just bad timing. Unfortunately, there were almost no people staying there during my visit, so there weren’t really any opportunities to make new friends

I really loved this hostel, the host is so kind and laid back, very good at his job. The space is beautiful and very chill, the only struggle I really had was some chaotic other guests and the location. The location is absolutely stunning, the only issue is it's right in between the two main towns of Placencia and I was traveling on my own, so it seemed a waste to rent a golf cart by myself, but that's on me for not planning better, overall great place !!

The owners are amazing and very helpful with anything you need, got a lovely pool and a stocked fridge you can buy from. Not too close to town but you can hire a golf cart or hitch hike there very easily. Can be a little hot but each bed has a personal fan. Would highly recommend.

The property is well kept and has all the amenities you need-pool, hammocks, darts, books, grill, etc. The owners are super sweet. This was the first hostel my mom and I stayed at and it was amazing. I would go back right now.

I had a wonderful stay! The owners were amazing and I loved to bike around with the free bikes ☺️

Ein tolles Hostel mit einem schönen Aussenbereich mit Pool, Grill, Hängematten und einer kleinen Bar wo es Bier und Cola gibt. Die Küche ist sauber und liegt neben einem Aufenthaltsraum. Leider gibt es keine Mikrowelle. Die Besitzer haben noch einen lieben Schäferhund am Haus der hin und wieder vorbeischaut.

Royal Rat was awesome! Mark and Sheila are a lovely couple and they have built an amazing place for travellers to meet others, chill in the wonderful pool, take out bikes into town if they want, etc. Overall an amazing accommodation and can’t speak more highly of it. I extended a few more days bc I enjoyed it so much. Thanks again

Awesome staff and facilities.

Great spot, really nice property and the owners are fantastic and go out of the way to make the experience excellent. The hostel is not quite in the town, but free bicycles are provided to get you there, and it’s also near a nice beach. The pool and outdoor space is lovely; it’s a great spot in Placencia.

This is a great hostel. It's a little on the edge of town but that means it's quiet and chill. Mark and Sheila are warm and friendly plus a wealth of knowledge about the area. Everyone there was open and friendly. I'd stay here again any time.

10/10, absolutely loved this place, the owners, the rooms, the pool, the kitchen. Absolutely amazing would stay here again.

Sauberstes Hostel was ich in Belize angetroffen hatte. Die Zimmer sehen wie neu aus. Der Pool ist sauber, super zum relaxen und chillen. Grosser Supermarket in Seine Bight. Die Inhaber sind sehr nette Leute und immer bereit zu unterstützen wenn Fragen aufkommen.

An amazing hostel! Is like being at a resort with a lovely pool, chairs and hammocks! Mark and Sheila are wonderful, very welcoming and helpful. Free bikes are great to get into town, kitchen is well equipped, lounge and bored games available, and wifi is strong which is great. Would definitely recommended, I even extended my stay here.
