Pension Santa Elena

Review The room was not as advertised at all! I was given a room which is not shown in the pictures. The room had no windows at all, a death coackroach in the middle of it and the comforter with cigarette holes and stains. When I complained they switch my room to a more decent one but just for one of my two night reservation. We left a day earlier. The room / bed smelled moldy and I left with an awful head cold after 2 nights in it. The walls are so paper thin your neighbors alarms will wake you up as if they were your own. Location was convenient but I wouldn’t stay there again.

Pesion Santa Elena has a central location and provides hot showers with strong water pressure. However, the bed is very uncomfortable, causing back pain, and the room gets bright at sunrise, leading to early wake-ups. It’s also small, lacks a fan or AC, and has no mosquito nets, resulting in a mosquito problem. The staff are unhelpful and unfriendly. Overall, it’s a disappointing experience and not recommended.

Could be better… staff could be nicer

The room we booked according to the pictures, fee and description was NOT what we received. Hot water was confirmed in the booking, there was none and were told "well some rooms have it and some don't, that's Costa Rica" door doesn't fully close (though does lock) and linen didn't feel clean (itchy). Otherwise, wifi , kitchen, breakfast, location, common space good

Staff were friendly and helpful. There were hot showers and good Wi-Fi. It is in a good location. The place is outdated though. Walls between rooms are thin and you can hear conversations. The shared kitchen could be better equipped. A lot of the mugs are chipped, saucepans have broken handles and not many bowls.

It was okay to stay there. But my first room was terrible it was next to the share bathroom and not really a window or anything so it was kinda feeling like a prison! I changed my room and it was better a bit. I guess the rooms outside of the main house are really good. However for 2-3 days it’s okay. Be careful the main road is next to the pension so it’s super loud!!

Las habitaciones privadas estándar dejan mucho que desear, No son cómodas las camas/almohadas y no hay ventilador ni A/C. La ubicación del lugar es buena y tiene la ventaja de tener estacionamiento para el auto. El desayuno es muy bueno, tienen 2 opciones. Salvo por la habitación, lo demas esta bastante bien.

Was good for a few nights. The rooms has very thin walls though so you hear everything that’s going on in the hallway and kitchen or when cars or motorcycles pass. So you might want some earplug if you want a good night sleep.

Overall very okay stay. Not the prettiest of hostels but alright to chill and good for the price. Kitchen is good and breakfast included (sadly coffee always ran out super quickly). There could be more showers but hot water was plenty!! We had a private bedroom for two and that one was a teeny tiny room with a small window only opening to the hallway so fresh air was limited. But it’s well located and super okay if you’re planning to be out and about the whole day anyways.

Très chouette hostel avec un environnement sympa ! Les chambres sont très bien et l’emplacement est très pratique sans voiture ! Juste un peu bruyant mais ça m’a pas dérangé pour dormir

Great hub for Monteverde - easy to book tours and they were great. Lovely courtyard to chill in the sun. Great price for a private!

Super Unterkunft in Monteverde!

Perfect - no notes! Actually maybe just one. It would be good to offer more options for the breakfast so it’s not the same every day but that’s all.

Overall nice hostel with friendly staff, good facilities, and a nice common area. My only complaint was that our room was right next to the kitchen so it can be noisy and the wind was very loud at night (creaky). There are many other rooms that I think would be less noisy though.

This property was great value for our money! The location is perfect, the staff is super kind and informative, and the facilities are nice as well. The breakfast served was delicious and nutritious. If I come back to the area, I’m definitely staying here again!

Insane value, not “social” but that’s Monteverde

Excellent place to stay, it's more of a hotel than a hostel. Three of us stayed in the 6 person room and it was a beautiful room and bathroom with toiletries included in the bathroom. The location was fantastic, the beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms weren't too soundproof but this wasn't really an issue (the strong winds from outside was noisiest!). The free breakfast included was also great. I strongly recommend this hostel!

Ideal location with a delicious breakfast (choices of pinto with eggs or granola and yogurt). Smallish room (basic private) but perfect for a couple nights. Also provided towels and body wash/shampoo. Well equipped shared kitchen that was constantly clean.

Good place, very clean, less social interaction

This was a practically perfect place! The staff are very helpful with answering questions, and the included breakfast is actually filling and hearty enough for a morning of exploring. The room was spacious and clean, with excellent hot water in the shower. There is also free coffee/tea and ample seating in the common areas. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a private room on a budget.

Hostel is nice and very easy going, the staff were super friendly! The breakfast was great and the location was ideal for what we wanted to do. The bed was very very thin and uncomfortable and the kitchen was locked from 9pm with no access at all which could have been made clearer.

Établissement très bien, propre, bien situé, le petit déjeuner est bon. Néanmoins vous pouvez pas avoir votre logement avant l’heure du checking, et prélèvement automatique sur votre compte bancaire de la totalité du montant de votre séjour

It was good value for money. It's maybe a bit too close to everything so you can hear all the road all night. The breakfast was a nice touch in the morning. If I was to come again I would definitrpy change rooms. I was in a closed off room right in the middle of everything with my only window being to the inside of the building right above the sink. The room was in the centre of all the things you wish you wasn't near. I was woken up everyday at 5.45 to inconsiderate people in the kitchen.

great hostel if you are looking for more of a private retreat type vibe. not the most social, but the staff was super friendly and helpful. rooms were clean and pillows were comfortable. there was hot water which was a dream, no AC. only complaint was that the walls were thin so if people near you were talking you could hear their conversation. there is also a little noise from the motorcycles on the road. but i'd stay here again and would recommend to anyone going to monteverde
