Naturfreunde Hostel Grindelwald

- Sehr hilfsbereites Personal - Bequeme Betten - Keine (!) Bettwanzen :) Wie bereits von einigen Gästen erwähnt, ist die Unterkunft sehr ringhörig. War füe uns zwar absolut kein Problem, jedoch sollte man sich dessen bewusst sein.

Le petit-déjeuner est bien, beaucoup de choix. L’établissement est propre. Possible qu’il y a des punaises de lit car j’ai eu des piqûres après avoir passé une nuit là-bas.

Lage, Busanbindung, Frühstück, Ausblick aus dem Fenster, Waschbecken im Zimmer Alles war hygienisch bis auf das Bett, unter der Matratze war es unsauber, sie hatte Flecken und wir hatten leider Bettwanzen, die wir auch gemeldet haben. Man hört jedes Geräusch und Gespräch aus dem Nachbarzimmer und auf dem Flur im eigenen Zimmer.

Location is good, bus stop near the hostel. 🔴 Do NOT book this hostel unless you want your luggage DESTROYED!!! 🔴 👎 One line summary: the hotel janitor broke my luggage lock and secretly moved it away on my day off check-out. After I wrote my concern, management team threatened me that they can sue me for leaving my luggage in the luggage room 🙃 And, I found I was bitten by bed bugs after checking out from the hostel 🪳 Story: On the morning of my departure, I went to retrieve my luggage from the luggage room, only to discover that it was missing. After searching frantically, I was informed by a staff member that they had cut the chain lock on my luggage and moved it to another room, assuming it was unattended. This situation caused me significant stress and panic, as I had left my luggage there with the understanding that it would be safe until I collected it before the 10 AM checkout time. I find it highly concerning that the staff took such actions without any attempt to contact me or verify whether the luggage was indeed unattended. This has raised serious questions about the safety and security protocols at your hostel, especially considering that guests are allowed to leave their luggage in the designated area after check-in and on the day of departure. The thought of someone cutting the lock on my luggage and moving it without my consent is deeply unsettling. This incident has greatly affected my sense of security during my stay, and I believe that the actions taken by the staff were not only inappropriate but also unjustifiable. 👎👎👎 I don’t think any traveller deserves this treatment so be careful if you really need to book this property!

Good price for the area, and it had its own bus stop from Grindelwald. Free breakfast was very nice, especially in the very expensive city of Grindelwald. Beautiful views from its kitchen while eating breakfast. We didn't realize there wouldn't be towels or soap/shampoo, only after the reception was gone for the first night. I would have appreciated if this were communicated beforehand. Also, we didn't see any bugs, but realized halfway into our first night that there were lots of reviews of bedbugs on the floor under us sometime last year for a period of a few months, and were afraid that they might still have been there. The bottom bunk bed being on the floor was a bit scary after realizing this. That said, the hotel may have done a very good job here, as we haven't seen any reviews since then, and it seems the hotel was avoiding giving rooms to the rooms that were said to be affected in the reviews. So the fear (possibly unjustified) of bedbugs was a negative experience, but as we didn't encounter this or hear about other folks encountering it, maybe it's a positive thing overall that the hotel handled this.

Breakfast is good. The manager ignored my 5 room reservation. Thus, he gave me 4 rooms instead of 5 rooms. The manager said, " If you want to give up the 5 rooms, then I am fine. All rooms are full in the Grindelwald" Also, there were bed bugs in the 2 rooms. However, the manager denied the bed bugs in the rooms. After all, we caught bed bugs, and showed the bed bugs to the manager. We stayed the hostel for 4 days. During 3 days, the manager denied the bed bugs. After seeing the bed bug which was caught by our group, the manager accepted the bed bug. But there were no compensation for bed bugs after all.

Communicative and friendly staff via Booking. Ok with late check-in. Clean looking facilities. Ok location with easy access via short bus ride from main station or a quick hike. Got a refund for bed bug situation. Basic breakfast. Good views of area. BED BUGS. Found a ton. They are infested. I received a taxi card from reception and I killed them with it. Have photos and videos and was bitten a few times on my leg, neck and arm. One of the showers has a motion sensor light and kept turning off during the shower.

The hostel was in a great spot overlooking the town below and the mountains beyond that. The staff were friendly and we’re able to assist with any queries The shared room had no ventilation apart from the window with no bug screen which meant that the hot nights invited insects in. The beds also had bed bugs

L'emplacement est magnifique et le personne est très accueillant. Cependant, , je vous déconseille vivement de dormir dans cet hôtel car il est infesté de punaises de lit. J'ai été piqué plus d'une trentaine de fois pendant la nuit (chambre 10) et j'ai donc terminé ma nuit dans ma voiture. Le personnel m'a indiqué qu'ils étaient désolés mais au regard du nombre de punaises dans la chambre, l'infestation n'est manifestement pas nouvelle et nous n'avons jamais été prévenu de quoi que ce soit. Ce fut la pire nuit de ma vie. Heureusement que nous avons été remboursé mais cela n'efface en rien l'horrible nuit que nous avons passé ni l'allure de mon corps après toutes ces piqûres, ce qui me gâche le reste de mes vacances d'été. A FUIR ABSOLUMENT !!!

L’amabilité du personnel Le petit déjeuner : copieux, produits variés et de qualité Nous avons malheureusement eu des punaises de lit la première nuit. Le personnel a fait tout son possible pour rendre le séjour plus agréable par la suite, mais malgré tout le préjudice est là (une nuit blanche et des dizaines de piqûres). J’espère qu’ils réussiront à traiter ce problème. L’hôtel est au-dessus de Grindelwald : il faut donc remonter une cote raide pendant 15’ pour y accéder depuis le centre. Il y a un bus mais pas au-delà de 19h.

Breakfast is OK. 1. I had reserved 6 rooms through Booking.com. However, the manager gave only 5 rooms. I argued but it did not work. Manager said, " If you don't like it, then go to other hotel" 2. There were Bed Bug. Several my friends were bitten by the bed bug. We stayed there for 5 nights. The manager denied the bed bug for the early 4 days. After my friends caught several living bed bugs and showed the bites, the manager accepted it and said compensation for the bed bug at the last day. However, the compensation was not done. Because we should go to Zermatt. I attached a picture of the bed bug which was caught at the Naturfreude Hostel.

At first glance, the premises were lovely. Nicely situated, a 20 min walk from town, downhill one way, uphill the other, which was fine with us. Breakfast was good; more than enough to fill your belly. First thing first. There is a MASSIVE BED BUG INFESTATION at this hostel. One night in an infested room and I have over 150 bites from on my face to between my toes. Talk about a trip ruined. This was in the private room we stayed in (Room 14), though from the sounds of other recent reviews it is not contained to this room so please beware. Management KNEW they were putting us in a room with bed bugs and did not inform us - PURE NEGLIGENCE - how is this even legal? So we stayed two nights and were under the impression from our booking receipt that we were to be in a “3-bed dorm”, which was false, it was 3 beds in a 12 person room. At the time of booking this was unclear. So when we realized we asked to switch and they were able to put us in the private room for the second night. When I requested a refund based on the experience, they said they would only refund for the one day because we had asked to move rooms and if we hadn’t we never would have been bit by bed bugs. I tried to explain that we had to spend the last few days of our holiday cleaning and doing laundry and that our friend’s car was not usable for the remainder of the week (so now needing to book trains for work and to go to a wedding on the weekend, lest they bring bedbugs to work and family) and what this is costing us - still maintained that they could only refund one night. It seems like their business is floundering and they are just trying to get people into their infested hostel to make a quick buck and don’t care about their guests well-being. Don’t ruin your vacation - camp or spend the extra money to stay somewhere more high end because you’ll end up spending it to clean up the mess after anyways. You can see from the correspondence in the photos below the type of service to expect and what ONE forearm looked like after ONE night at their hostel.

There were bed bug on my bed. I felt so itchy and could not sleep the whole night. The bed is not clean.

L'emplacement est parfait, en haut d'une colline avec une très jolie vue. Espaces communs et personnels agréables. Dans la chambre, j'ai trouvé un insecte que j'ai tué, je n'ai pas fait attention que c'était une punaise de lit, après avoir quitté l'établissement, j'ai remarqué que j'avais énormément de piqûres. Après avoir lu les commentaires, j'ai appris qu'ils étaient au courant de leur problème de punaises de lit, je pense que c'est une chose dont les clients devraient être mis au courant. J'en ai retrouvé une dans ma valise!!!! J'espère ne pas en ramener chez moi.

The hostel has a good view of the mountain. The toilets were clean. Breakfast was also good. Firstly it is not really easy to get to the hostel. You do a cardio from the Grindelwald village to the hostel. It is in the high cliff so if you have big baggage it is hard to get. Secondly we coud not sleep in the room. When we started sleeping we realise out that our body start to ich. And we have seen tons of bedbugs in the room.(in the matrass) Sadly it was late so we coudnt ask reception to do anything. We just went downstairs and sleep in the reception. We talked withthe owners. They said they are sorry. But they said also it is hard to control and this can be seen in all places. It is true but after two days i have really red spots in my body. It still ich and we also get really scared if it would contaminate our house. So sadly overall it was not a good experience.
