Awful experience, I do not recommend this place at all. The hostel is in deplorable condition: the walls are filthy, the rooms are extremely cluttered, and there is no ventilation, so the smell is unbearable. The beds are the worst part: the bed frames are in terrible shape, and it’s obvious they don’t change the sheets. I was even assigned a bed next to a window that had chewing gum stuck to the frame. Safety is non-existent. They claim to have power outlets in the rooms, but there is only one shared extension cord thrown in the middle of the floor with way too many things plugged into it; I could barely get my suitcase past the mess of cables. The kitchen is disgusting, and the common area is incredibly depressing; the 'sofa' has stained and filthy upholstery. To top it off, they have bedbugs. I had a reservation for four nights, but I left after the first one because the place is unsanitary and dangerous. A truly horrible experience.

Only 1 shower for men on floor 1 and 2 (didnt check the other floors) Walking uphill when you went to cbd, but thats Auckland for ya Not too much facilities to hang clothes for drying

I can't believe that this is rated so well on booking.com. When I arrived, the front desk tried to charge me again even though I'd already paid. When I got into the room there were blood stains all over the floor. Not a great area. Started to question why it was rated so well - looked into Google reviews which said they had bed bugs just last month. I was freaked out all night. Checked the bed and luckily it seemed fine but when I checked under the mattress there were huge blood stains. So gross, please clean your floors and throw away mattresses that are covered in bodily fluid. I know it's a budget hostel but that's not an excuse for this level of uncleanliness

They have bed bug infestation. They will tell you their all gone but the larva is still there and will be for years. Also non refundle .

I triple-checked and no bed bugs in my room. The place is spotless and well designed for its purpose yet cheap, so what's not to like ?

I found bed bugs after the first night on my bed, and now after a week of staying, bed bugs bites start to show up. They are insanely itchy. They need to clean the room properly.

They had a bed bug issue previously and didn't consider my stress about it. They refused to refund my money.

They wouldn't refund my booking once I found out about their bed bug issue. Stay away

Bed bugs. Booking.com rates this place 8.5 and at some point it was "sold out". The real reason was bed bugs.

To avoid ! After Google comments on bed bugs infestation at the United Auckland hostel few days before my check in (thank you to the Google comments users!), I asked the hostel to confirm the situation. They only replied to me just before midnight, the day I was supposed to check in. I had to find another accommodation in emergency in between. I ve requested a total refund as it was a critical situation. However, they were not comprehensive, sending contradictory information to justify it. One day, they said there was an infestation in few rooms the other day, they wrote me it was a month ago in an isolated room... Furthermore, I have to wait ages for their reply and have to put Booking.com in copy to have feedbacks. They are saying that they care about their guests. Obviously, it is not the case as they consider bed bugs not as a serious issue. They prefer to keep money from their guests and don't consider that infestation can cause physical and mental damages

Don’t fall for the cheaper room rates! We walked up the hill that the hostel’s on, checked in, had a nap for two hours to recover from the early rise and then when we woke up we were greeted by tens of bed bugs to our surprise. We gathered our things, bagged some of the bed bugs as pictured and checked out which was handled swiftly, but didn’t seem as though it was the first time it had happened. Glad that we only napped and didn’t spend a full night here as we could have been much worse off but still had a couple of bites.

Rooms were infested with bed bugs

Bed bug infested. Booked two nights here and after waking up the first night, i find myself covered in bed bugs. Reception staff was nice and gave me a replacement room, where I found another bed bug crawling around in the bed after 30 minutes. Went down to inform the staff and they were able to give me another replacement room but was honestly too paranoid to stay another night there at this point. Good luck everyone, It was rooms 607 and 407.
