Rotorua Downtown Backpackers

J avais reserve deux chambres pour 4 personnes pour 4 nuits. En arrivant nous avons appris que nous n aurions qu une chambre.nous avons ete oblige de louer une chambre d hotel en ville au prix de 180 euros la nuit,et ceci pour deux nuits,samedi soir et dimanche soir.c est purement scandaleux.

Bizarre uncomfortable liminal atmosphere, feels like it’s been halfway converted to a hostel then they gave up. Not one to believe in ghosts etc but my intuition felt something was deeply just not right about this place. Would advise anyone to go elsewhere. Rooms are cheap but grubby,smashed windows rust mold etc. not awful but unclean and weird vibe

The worst hostel I have ever been (and I’ve been to more than 10 hostels in more than 5 countries). The guy at the reception wasn’t particularly nice, just doing his job. The kitchen is ok and the toilet and showers are just old and neglected. The worst part (!!!) was the room, which was unbelievably smelly and also there were bed bugs around me and on my cloths when I woke up. It caused me to go away from Rotorua, since I was so sad and disappointed.

For the price, it was fine. We saw a cockroach in the kitchen and under a bed and the area was generally a little dirty, but the rooms themselves were fine. The rooms came with bedding (pillow+case, duvet+cover, and fitted sheet) and the beds were pretty comfortable, but they were squeaky. Beware of bugs- there were many spiders in the bathroom. You get what you pay for though.

Clean the bathrooms and don’t use a pack and save trolly for collecting the sheets and fix the leak in the ceiling

The atmosphere is quite strange. The hostel doesn't feel very safe or clean, and the rooms are old. Rain was leaking into the room and it was cold. The only good point is the location.

There is no ventilation in this building. The interior rooms have no windows. Feels a bit like sleeping in a dark, stuffy coffin with dirty shoes. Location is good. Staff are nice. In talking to others, many hostels in Rotorua are like this so be very picky when booking your specific room if indoor air quality and natural light matters to you.

The place is old and not clean. Didn't want to use the kitchen because it looked greasy and I heard there's bed bugs on the couch. Staff was friendly and the location is next to the bus stop.

The staff there are really friendly and attentive. The room was good, if lacking a bit on plugs. In general the facilities were workable but not spectacular

Das Personal war sehr, sehr nett und hilfsbereit und immer ansprechbar. Die Badezimmer/Küche werden regelmäßig sauber gemacht. Aus meinem Aufenthalt von 3 Tagen wurden 3 Wochen. Danke!

I think that the staff were very lovely and the location was super ideal. However the hostel itself is a bit dated. The rooms didn’t have a lot of room for how many people were staying in them. It was overall a good stay but could be done with refreshing some parts I think?

The staff were very welcoming and made me feel comfortable during my stay. The kitchen was one of the cleanest I’ve ever experienced. There were a few items left under the bed, but aside from that everything was great.

Really nice hostel. Perfect location at the heart of Rotorua

Room was small with minimal floor space and very low ceilings (banged my head when i sat up). No plug sockets near the beds and creaky beds. Old bathroom. Overall, get what you paid for

I really can’t complain. The beds where super comfy, great blankets, sheets and pillows where provided and the rooms where equipped with lockers, plugs and some rooms had a light for each bed. The bathroom was always clean, they have hot showers with good pressure and a well equipped kitchen, in which some seasonings are provided. It get‘s a little messy in there when a lot of people want to use the kitchen though. Staff was so kind to help me switch rooms twice, due to creepy men in my room...

Very nice staff that were always very helpful, they are also constantly cleaning so the place never felt dirty! It’s in a great location and so close to the Intercity bus drop off! I have stayed here 2 separate times and my only complaint is the bed. The first time I stayed in a private room and the bed was so uncomfortable. The second time I stayed in the 6 bunk female dorm and the bed was much better but still more uncomfortable than most hostels I have stayed at on this trip.

Staff very welcome bed was comfortable. Located next to bus station walking distance to everything really nice place

De keuken is wat aan de kleine kant voor de hoeveelheid reizigers die er gebruik van maken, verder fijne locatie! een grote stekkerblok in de kamer voor genoeg oplaadpunten, erg vriendelijk personeel! De bedden vond ik wat beweeglijk, maar dat hoort erbij

Good location, close to the intercity bus and local buses, shops Bathrooms/showers were a bit small but worked out with the other people, same for the kitchen But overall fine and nice

I didn't actually get to take up the booking unfortunately. What did impress me, however, wass that the hostel only took the low deposit of just over $4 instead of the whole booking price when i didnt turn up. They could have taken the whole booking price as I was already booking late. I appreciate this very much and bevause of it I would want to give them 5 stars even though I never went.

Good hostel - beds were clean, showers and toilets were clean. Good kitchen but it was quite narrow so it got very crowded at peak times. 6 bed dorm only really had room for four beds so that was also cramped (and no air con).

Very central hostel, right next to the i-site and InterCity bus stop. It's rather old and run-down, the toilets and showers are not the newest. But there is a certain standard of cleanliness that is being maintained. The kitchen can get crowded at peak hours. I didn't find the place to be overly social, it's only as social as you make it. I didn't have any great complaints, you get what you pay for.

Honestly, one of the best hostels I’ve been to. Maria was amazing on reception, when I turned up she was so welcoming, gave me a tour of the hostel and tips to help with my stay. All the staff at the hostel were welcoming, friendly and seemed to genuinely care about my trip. Everything was great and such a good feel to it.

Lage ist sehr gut. Sanitär Anlagen waren immer sauber und ordentlich. Die Küche hat uns nicht besonders überzeugt und leider war unser Zimmer sehr sehr Klein. Wir hatten ein Dach Fenster vor das eine Plastikscheibe befestigt war. Dieses konnte man nicht verdunkeln. Die Möbel sind schon ziemlich in die Jahre gekommen und wenn man von unten auf die obere Matratze geguckt hat hatte diese Flecken. Aber das Personal an sich war sehr nett.

Great location, very close to the intercity bus stop, close to the 4square shop, very practical, the climbing wall is a plus, great big kitchen with all facilities at hand, clean, maintained, superb view from the common area, spacious fridges for all, the stool in the shower is definitely a great feature : simple but great. The team was extremely helpful when they had to quickly send me by post my external battery which I had forgotten behind!! Top star thank you!
