Kaikoura Sea Side Lodge

Not a single member of staff seen at any point. Only good thing about the location was the view from the kitchen, wanted to hire a bike but due to there being no staff at any point i was unable. Wouldnt recommend

Die Aussicht aus der Küche ist wahnsinnig schön! Die Küche und das Bad waren sauber und wurden regelmäßig gereinigt. Leider ließ unser Zimmer zu wünschen übrig.. das Fenster ließ sich nicht ganz schließen, sodass Mücken herein kamen. Ausserdem war an der Wand neben einem der Betten ein großer Fleck, der aussah wie Blut.

I don't recommend the hostel! The rooms are very, very small, so it's impossible to get into the room once everyone has their luggage with them, also to open it. Therefore, it's impossible to clean properly. The room only has one power outlet for six people, plus the heater. It smells musty everywhere. I had to blow-dry my hair in the kitchen because it was the only power outlet.

Good location, but not a very relaxing hostel due early morning (6am) noise from families/kids.

View of the seaside is amazing. Good for a short stay but wouldn’t recommend for longer. A bit far out of town and there are a lack of plug sockets in the room.

A long way getting there from the”city centre”, but for that you get a really nice view on the lake

The window can be opened but only a bit and it can't be fully closed. The fan is quite loud but you need it because of the window/number of people. The smell wasn't always nice (entry, staircase), and bathroom (chloride cleaner). The staff is sometimes grumpy, sometimes interested in chatting. The atmosphere was also due to the clientel very unusual for a hostel, the pans are very used, many stove plates did not work. It was all right overall.

unmatched views to the bay, truly terrific! too bad it's a long walk to town but it's closer to the peninsula walk, so it's worth it

Room was ok, but did have a smell of damp and the shower didn’t work properly the first night- the man did sort this out but was a bit confrontational in demeanour. Washing machine ruined a few bits of clothes. A few of the hobs in the kitchen didn’t work and a problem with flys everywhere. The place was nice but felt unorganised and not professional.

Secure place, good bed for the night. No reception, self check in and kinda weird vibe but it worked.

Had a really lovely stay in Kaikoura! The accomodation was in a great location between seals and the dolphin encounter. The town itself doesn’t have any public transport so would recommend hiring a car or booking shuttles. It is walking distance to seals and dolphin encounter!

Ich muss sagen, dass mir dieses Hostel sehr gut gefallen. Der vibe war gut, ein guter Raum zum Leute kennen lernen und vorallem nach dem Delfinen schwimmen kommt die Sauna und der Whirlpool sehr gut!! Die Frau von der Rezeption war sehr freundlich! Ich kann dieses Hostel sehr empfehlen!!

I arrived after the office closed and the people i met were more than happy to help me figure out which room i was in and get me my key. Bed was solid and the comforter was soft. Showers were clean and hot

Wunderbare Unterkunft 10 Geh Minuten vom Zentrum entfernt mit wunderschönem Blick direkt aufs Meer. Zu Fuß auch die Seelöwenkolonie erreichbar. Alles was man braucht. Auch für alleinreisende Frauen geeignet.

Great value for money, twin room is small but fine for a short stay. Location was a little out of town but it’s a nice walk down the coastline or a short drive.

Gemütliches Hostel, Lage ist wunderschön aber es ist ein weiter Weg zur "Innenstadt". Dafür sind die Seehunde näher. Schöner Aufenthaltsraum & alles war sauber.

Great place to stay to explore Kaikoura, good kitchen/bathroom/laundry facilities and very clean!

Grundsätzlich guter Aufenthalt in der Kaikōura Sea Side Lodge. Leider haben die Betten keine Vorhänge und sie sind nicht an der Wand befestigt, das heisst es wackelt so sehr, wenn man sich bewegt. Küche voll ausgestattet und die Sanitäranlagen waren sauber.

I stayed 4 nights at the Kaikoura Seaside lodge, the automated check in system was good, and easy to use. I was in a dorm of 6, the room was good but one improvement I'd make is a reading light for each bed, and a socket. The kitchen was ok, and enough storage for personal food. The laundry facilities are good, and the views from the dining room are mind blowing. The nearest supermarket is 2 miles away, so best to get a few supplies in for a couple of days. I'd definitely recommend this hostel.

The two receptionist (I'm guessing who were on a working holiday) were very blunt. But the Big Boss is really friendly and gave me plenty of recommendations for food around the area! Great view from the lounge area too!

Really nice place for the cost. Showers and toilets are clean and don't give that ick feeling using them. Beds aren't the most comfortable in my opinion but they are decent.
