Hive Ella Hostel

I feel like it was portrayed as something very social and full of activities when in reality it was not, quite the contrary. The activity was always go out for dinner and drink/party. No cooking classes or any other activity organized from the hostel, but rather from the guests’ initiative. Would definitely think twice before booking, the vibe was generally off.

I don’t know why this hostel have such high reviews. There is a lot of stairs up to the hostel so make sure you have a backpack before booking. Breakfast was good. Toilet felt dirty. Mosquitoes in the room even though we were told they were no mosquitoes. In one dorm room no mosquito net was provided. Helpful host, very social hostel.

Gihan was super lovely and helpful!! The vibe of the hostel is fun. Space was moderately clean and other staff were not able to help much with things.

Stayed in two different rooms here so feel like I had two experiences. One was a lot better. No AC and doesnt feel super clean. Breakfast was really good and they're amazing at organizing things, good social scene! Feels like the meeting point of all backpackers in Ella regardless of where you're staying

good social hostel, with lots of activities organised daily from the staff and volunteers! liked that the beds had mosquito nets, gave a bit of privacy, but maybe felt the rooms were a bit basic for the price. definitely a great atmosphere though - family dinner was INCREDIBLE, and breakfasts were lovely. would say that while it says it isn't a party hostel, we had quite a party group during our stay - was really loud whenthey came back and stayedup in the kitchen area. but would stillrecommend!

The location of this place is perfectly in centre.

decent hostel but you need to hike up a hill to get to it, wish I'd stayed somewhere else in town and saved the $$$

Hive Ella is highly recommended because if its location, its staff and volunteers. The social activities, the family dinners were super cool. I really loved this hostel and will surely come again. Thanks to Gihan, Laura and Thais for making my stay at ella unforgettable. May God bless you all.

Nettes Personal. Habe gehört es sei sehr social jedoch war wenig los an den Tagen an denen wir da waren. Von den Aktivitäten hat kaum was stattgefunden und wenn wurde es erst sehr kurzfristig angeboten. Wir mussten uns eigentlich eher selbst drum kümmern wodurch man weniger mit anderen zutun hatte.

Amazing hostel, great vibes and lovely staff and people.

Location is great! Near a lot of restaurants and shops. The hostel had great breakfast too which made the price more worth it. The restrooms could have used some more tender love and care because it was a “wet bathroom” it smelt and looked a bit moldy in some parts.

not worth the price in my opinion, bathrooms weren’t very clean, my mosquito net around the bed had holes in and wasn’t attached all around so it was laying on me. only a fan, no ac but wasn’t too hot when i was there. not much push for planned social activities

We had a great stay at Hive. Really lovely family dinners and activities. The staff were really helpful and welcoming and free breakfast was great!

Stayed here for 5 days. Hostel was full of backpackers & also social. Staffs were friendly. They arranged family dinner , pizza night. Those events were really crazy! They also provided shower gel that other hostel doesn't give. Overall a decent experience. Cons : There was no AC in the room. Little bit hot in day time. Would Love to Stay Again ❤️

Absolutely loved this hostel in Ella. It’s in a great location by the Main Street and has some great views. The staff are super friendly and are always organising fun activities for the guests to do. Highly recommend!

I had a nice stay here,was expecting it to be a bit more social,it could be that I arrived at a quiet season.But still I managed to meet great people and was able to explore Ella together.The staff are friendly and the breakfast is nice.There is more than enough space in the dorms and the beds are comfy as well.

Great location, friendly staff and good vibes. Toilets are very dirty (room is clean), lacking AC and my laundry that I gave them to clean was not rly that clean. It was a good overall experience though just be prepared for these little things. I’d come back :)

Great hostel, super social and there are always activities that you can join in daily, the hostel organises everything for you it’s amazing! Also had family dinner a few times which was great value! Really friendly staff and easy to meet people. Clean rooms and nice location. Would stay here again!

Super tolles Hostel! Der Besitzer ist mega hilfsbereit und hilft beim organisieren aller möglichen Ausflüge. Das Hostel ist schön gelegen und sehr social. Habe mich sehr sehr wohl gefühlt :)

The hostel is in a great location for getting around town. There are quite a few steps from the main road leading up to the property but the community and social aspect is really amazing. The host does a great job at organizing events and trips every day and the WhatsApp group is very active with recommendations and plans for outings. Their morning breakfast was also really good, authentic Sri Lankan food made fresh, not just cereal/juice/toast. The beds situation wasn't too bad but I had a corn...

The staff and the vibe is amazing. There are a lot of insects, because of the location but everything else was perfect. Very organized and breakfast, dinner and also the activities are included.
