- I never expected to feel unsafe or uneasy in a city like Zurich, but this hostel managed to do just that. The moment I entered the room, I felt something was wrong. The bedding was visibly dirty — the pillow had stains, and you must make your own bed, which exposes exactly how unhygienic things are. Once you see it, you can’t forget it. I barely slept that night. The hallways were noisy with shouting and arguments, and I didn’t feel safe around the people in my room. It’s supposed to be a budget-friendly place, but the guest profile is extremely mixed, and the atmosphere feels unpredictable. The overall vibe is tense and unsettling, not what you want when you’re traveling to relax. In the morning, the staff’s behavior shocked me. They speak to guests in a harsh, almost scolding tone — especially if you forget to bring your bedsheets downstairs. The environment feels more like a strict dormitory than a hostel. I also spoke with a man named Nathnael, who introduced himself as the manager. He was cold, dismissive, and completely uninterested in helping. His attitude made the situation even more uncomfortable. The breakfast advertised as “delicious” was just a boiled egg, cheese, and dry bread. The hostel is about 3 km from the city center, and walking back at night through dark, empty streets doesn’t feel safe. Later, I checked the reviews more carefully — the high ratings mostly come from people who didn’t leave any written comments. The detailed reviews, however, describe exactly what I experienced. That says a lot. This isn’t simply a matter of cleanliness; it’s about psychological comfort and basic human respect. If you value hygiene, safety, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend cancelling your booking and choosing another place. Staying here could easily turn a good trip into a stressful memory you’ll want to forget.

- I’ve stayed in hundreds of places around the world, but Zürich Youth Hostel was honestly one of the worst, most disturbing experiences of my life. From the first night, I felt disgusted. The pillow, blanket, and mattress were filthy, with visible mucus stains on the pillow. Guests have to put on their own sheets, so you actually see how dirty everything inside is — and once you see it, you can’t unsee it. I wouldn’t even let my dog sleep on that bed. Out of desperation, I bought my own pillowcase for the second night and slept in my jacket instead of using their blanket. I barely slept from disgust and anxiety. Hygiene is nonexistent, and the overall atmosphere feels unsafe and unsettling. Because it’s cheap, the crowd is very mixed and unpredictable. I heard shouting and arguments in the hallways late at night. In the morning, staff yelled at guests like children for not bringing down their bed linens. The manager is rude, cold, and disrespectful. When I handed him a written complaint, he didn’t even read it — just pushed it back at me. His behavior suggested clear racist and sexist tendencies. I saw him arguing with multiple guests, creating a constant tension in the common area. You don’t feel like a guest here; you feel unwanted and judged. The location is also bad — about 3 km from the center, through dark and empty streets. The “delicious breakfast” they advertise? Just cheese, a boiled egg, and bread. In a city as clean and organized as Zurich, this hostel feels like an embarrassing stain. If you value your peace of mind, hygiene, or even your health, cancel your booking right now. Don’t ignore the negative reviews — they’re the only honest ones. One guest wrote: “You’d be more comfortable sleeping in your car.” That line couldn’t be truer. Do yourself a favor — stay away. This place will ruin your trip.

- Lo único bueno fue el desayuno, cuando se llega al lugar le cobran un impuesto local de 7 francos suizos siendo uno extranjero adicional al precio que uno paga por el alojamiento, además no está en el centro de la ciudad el transporte cuesta 5 francos suizos la ida y otros 5 francos suizos el regreso. No recomiendo este lugar.

+ The staff was amazingly disrespectful. He just ignored customer and kept talking to the other staff. I said hello but the ignorance was continued. I was going to make a complaint directly to the manager because I felt amazingly disrepectful of behavior he did. But I just didn’t want to waste my little energy for the stupid staff there. I’m pretty sure that you(The manager of Zurich Youth Hostel) can look up the staff if you guys at least check the work shift on 21th August around 19:40. I hope at least a little education for him should be occurrd. I have not seen anyone who is disrespectful and unmannered like him. If you’re the ones who are reading the comments and thinking about staying there, I wouldn’t recommend unless you want to waste your time and energy to stupid one.

- souhaite informer l’auberge que j’ai des objets personnels qui ont disparus de mon casier. J’avais plusieurs et je n’en trouve que trois. Une des filles de la chambre, le lit en face de moi avait une carte qui ouvrait mon casier et son casier. Je suis très mécontente de la situation. J’aimerais vous envoyer les photos des ornement pour les cheveux que j’ai avec moi pour que vous puissiez faire une investigation dans la chambre. Appellez moi par WhatsApp svp . Le nom de la fille qui a ouvert mon casier c’est Helen. Jetais sortie le matin très tôt pour Berne et en revenant le soir elle m’a dit que sa carte pouvait ouvrir mon casier et que rien avait disparu. C’est en revenant chez moi que k me suis aperçu qu’il me manquait plusieurs choses.

- Unterirdischer Kundenservice, null Kulanz Habe über einem Jahr das Hotel gebucht und das System hat mir ein falsches Datum gebucht. Daraufhin hab ich angerufen um dies zu stornieren und um Rückerstattung zu erhalten. Nichts hat geklappt. Sehr traurig in der heutigen Welt vor allem weil es über ein Jahr her ist und die Unterkunft hätten ganz bestimmt dieses Zimmer weiter geben können.

- 棉被有異味，床具沒鋪好的話隔天會被罰20瑞郎，無提供任何盥洗用品（吹風機到櫃檯押證件租借），房間隔音很差，上鋪翻身下舖就會被吵醒

- The rooms smelled terrible, they also are echo chambers, there's a bunch of very noisy objects around beds that are unnecessary and make it super loud. Also, people are way to jam packed, it's very un hygienic.

- El trato de los recepcionista me dieron cama cucheta arriba teniendo doble prótesis de cadera

- Kundenservice sehr schlecht. Sehr unflexibles Personal. Das Management wollte das Geld nicht zurückerstatten, auch wenn ich es gemeldet habe, dass aufgrund tragischer Ereignisse (Polizei und Krankenhaus) nicht das Objekt nutzen konnte. Das ist eine sehr schlechte Einstellung. Ich empfehle es nicht.

+ Limpeza impecável, funcionários da recepção super atenciosos, amplo espaço comum com jogos, mesas e sofás. Instalações super conservadas, banheiros espaçosos e novos. Ambiente super tranquilo e silencioso.

- A localização é um pouco longe da região central, mas tem ponto de ônibus e tram bem próximos (vale ressaltar q eu já sabia da distância). O café da manha poderia ser um pouco melhor. A roupa de cama tbm deixa um pouco a desejar.

+ La gente de recepción muy amables y atentos, el desayuno muy bueno y la habitación era cómoda

- Quizás tener un refrigerador para poder guardar cosas de comida y eso

+ The place is very nice, close to the lake and park, as well as railway’s station. Stuff is wonderful, very helpful and kind.

+ Das Personal an der Rezeption war außergewöhnlich freundlich. Ebenso der Koch und sein Personal. Er hat auch für so viele Leute sehr gut gekocht, obwohl er alleine war. Das ist Knochenarbeit!!!!!Ein besonders Lob an ihn.
