I was received by a chilean lady (I specify the nationality because I don't know her name), all right. i came back the next day (i was no longer staying), because a frenchman invited us to several. i approached her to explain that i came with some friends because they had invited us and she behaved in the most overbearing and arrogant way possible. she didn't let me explain the situation. i told her the reason why she came in by invitation, but she continued to behave arrogantly. i was very disa...
+ Great and friendly staff - dirtiest Hostel I have ever been to. Cockroaches in the shower. Bath room looks like nobody cleaned it since weeks. Matress and cushion stink bad after sweat - The room was warmer than outside temperature - I had a WIFI router right next to my bed To emphasize that - the staff is great - helpful and friendly. And I mean they have to place the router somewhere, that is obvious. But if the infrastructure is so bad that they place it right next to a guest‘s bed (40 ...
Nice clean rooms, good kitchen and useful bike hire. However the atmosphere was very strange, it felt more like a private party for volunteers and as a solo traveller I felt a little alienated. Would have been nicer to organise activities. Lots of noise from the street, so it’s odd that they rigorously enforce quiet time after 10pm when you can hear noises all night anyway.
I really wanted to love this place. The staff was super nice and the place has a cool vibe to it (which is what is making the rating even this high), but I had to leave after one night because it was miserable. I was eaten alive throughout the night because of mosquitos in the room (which made it impossible to sleep). The rooms also only have fans and the windows are kept open so you end up sweating throughout the night. There is no warm water when taking a shower. On top of it construction next...
A nice place if you don‘t want to sleep alone. Bed bugs, ants and even a cockroach were visiting me in my bed. Street is close and loud. Van in the room is for nothing. I will not come back.
We were robbed from our room whilst staying in this hostel. The group of us in the room had collectively a lot of cash and other items (camera and headphones) taken whilst we we’re sleeping by someone who must’ve had access to the room as is a locked dorm. Although the staff were nice they did not help us throughout the process and did not seem to care or be apologetic even though it happened on their premises. Shame this happened as it was a nice hostel.
To be honest I think the room was very overpriced. I stayed in a private room which was expensive, had no aircon, had a window on one side with no glass in, just a curtain, which meant the mosquito net was necessary. Shower also wasn’t clean when I arrived. Part of the floor of the room was made of fencing meaning you could see/hear/smell downstairs and I got a strong smell of dogfood at one point. The staff were friendly and the location was good for both the main town and playa cocles.
mold on the ceiling close to the city
A nice Eco Hostel. The kitchen look well equipped however did not use. Appreciate the compost bins and recycling present. Hostel was the most basic I’d stayed at in Costa Rica and more expensive than others. Shower was cold. Toilet and shower was a long way from the rooms. Rented bikes for 2 days and were an hour late returning. Were charged an additional day. This was our fault but given they had plenty of bikes available at this time some leniency would have been reasonable.
Very good location. it doesn't have many social spaces. i was very lonely. i was received at 1 am due to a bus delay and that is very good.

A little walk from town, but close to the beaches, not the most social but with friendly staff and clean. There is also a bus stop just outside of the hostel which is convenient.
Goed hostel met ruime kamers, buitenkeuken leuke sfeer, goede locatie
Goed hostel with spacious rooms, nice outdoor kitchen and atmosphere, good location
Nice hostel, would always go there again!!
Very cool hostel! The common areas are nice and there are many spots to chill out. The vibe is lovely with all the cats, dogs, and super sweet staff/volunteers! It’s 5min away by feet from the city center which is really convenient! Only thing is that it’s a bit pricey to share a small dorm with 7 other people. For that price it would be nice to include breakfast maybe? Otherwise loved my stay there !
Stayed at this hostel twice during my time at Puerto Viejo . Would absolutely recommend due to cleanliness and the open space which are both very important for me . Laid back staff and welcoming atmosphere, also met some great people here too !
One of the best hostels I stayed in, everyone is super friendly, loved the vibe, great common spaces and clean:)
Really good hostel . Very clean and have a lot of common areas to chill out in . Friendly staff and dorms and bathrooms were also clean. Would recommend if you are in the area
Great! The hostel has everything you need ❤️
Nice staff and good equipment as well as nice premises. not too far away from the city. atmosphere rather cozy and relaxed. the dorm was a little dark but otherwise good
Excellent place 🙌 want to come back again for future travels to Puerto viejo
This is the best hostel in Puerto Viejo. It’s like the location of a beachy yoga retreat. The space is unique, they do a great job of sustainable practices, and the yoga “room” is amazing. Highly recommend!
Super Hostel, quiet to sleep and at the same time living with a lot of backpackers, ideally located very close to walking distance to the center of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. The volunteers are super friendly and the atmosphere is wild with a large garden.
Unfortunately our hostel was located on the Straße, which was a little louder, but this is Meckern on a high level :)
Loved my stay in La Ruka during 4 nights. For me it’s the perfect mix between social and chill. Lots of common areas, I was in the dorm where there are only 6 beds (some big beds as well), the dorm had its own bathroom, very clean. The kitchen is also very clean and easy to use. The volunteers are super nice, you can rent bicycles for cheap, and the location is perfect, not too in the city of puerto viejo but super close. They also have yoga classes everyday, honestly perfect hostel!
I kept extending my stay, because I loved the hostel. The rooms are big and there is enough space to storage your stuff. They have a nice common area to connect with people. And the staff was so lovely! I can totally recommend it. One of the best hostels I‘ve been so far!
I loved my private here , and the hostel itself is situated in a nice location. I'd stay here again .
Wer richtiges Dschungelgefühl will ist hier genau richtig.
At breakfast we could see monkeys and hummingbirds. there is also the possibility to participate in yoga, which was definitely a highlight on the terrace with a view on jungle and sea. since everything is open, one should definitely always allow backpacks and bags, otherwise the ants will spread quickly. there was also the possibility to order breakfast. coffee is available for free:)
Very cute hostel! Staff was friendly and helpful, and there was a nice chill vibe. Lovely garden around and a nice outdoor kitchen. There are bikes to rent. Would absolutely stay here again!
We had a great time staying here! The were very sweet and the kitchen were clean and nice too cook in. They had great facilities like a gym and opportunities to take yoga classes and nice “lounging” area. The hostel were placed perfect in my opinion 10 min walk to city and 10 min walk to playa cocles so right in the middle.
