There’s better places for the money. The place is not professional and it’s not super clean or easy to navigate
Very very badly maintained and run-down hostel. It doesn’t look like anything in the pictures. I had booked a private room and the room and bed were in a pretty dilapidated state. I felt so uncomfortable that I actually moved to a different hostel, and the owner refused to refund me even a single dollar (I had booked the room for 3 days). It didn’t seem very social, and is full of hippies and has quite a few older people. The only positive thing was that they actually gave me a fan when I a...
FUYEZ !
rude and ignorant staff.tainted my whole oaxaca experience.facilities were ok but the hippy style shouldn't be an excuse for lack of cleanness or professionality
Good: nice hang out space and terrace Bad: disorganized, poor facilities, loud late night and early morning. Overall a decent experience that was soured by my last night . I spoke with the front desk and reserved a private double bed room for my last night. When the night came - I was given a different room with 2 single beds instead of a double bed. They blamed it on their disorganized new volunteers and offered no solution or discount for their mistake. Poor business practice
A guest snoozed their 5am alarm five times. When I complained, the staff mansplained that it's a hostel and my fault for not booking a private room, despite their 'quiet hours' policy. When I asked for a refund, the guy from the bar came ready to fight. I felt completely unsafe. I spent two days as a sleep-deprived zombie, and they still refused to refund my second night. The only person professional was Anna. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE! Guests rights are not respected here.
It was very dirty. One toilet was daily clogged, because the flushing didnt work well. So mostly everytime when you came inside the toilet - which was also a shower room - you found something gross from someone before. Very smelly. Everything in this hostel needs some love, renovation & a proper cleaning. The cushions in the lounge area where also really dirty & smelly. On the terrace was a pile of deconstructed wood and other garbage. Old upholstered dirty chairs you dont wanna sit on... :(
Pros: - staff/volunteers were friendly and helpful Cons: - bed situation not good, there was no electric socket by my bed, so I had to run an extension cable from my neighbours bed. The plug sockets are old and flimsy and need replacing. My plug kept falling out of the socket and obviously I didn’t want to intrude on my neighbours bed to plug it back in so I had to go without charging my electronics through the night. I was also on a top bunk and had no ladder up into my pod!
Pros: location, breakfast, staff, rooftop bar and wifi Cons: Free breakfast but starts at 9. thats late. My bed has no light and the pillow was like a brick. My neighbour had to push away the curtain between us and use my ladder because he had none. Showers were okay, but on the first 2 days the hostel was short in water (I know, water crisis) and we had only hot (boiling) water. At least you can fill up a bucket to wash yourself, like we do in camping. tldr: you can find better for this p...

The location and the free breakfast was amazing, we also really enjoyed the rooftop terrace, but the events did not take place and were not communicated about. We had a private room and it was very big and well equipped compared to other hostels.
Good vibes. Good staff. Great price.
comfy beds, spacious rooms and great staff. The place is not properly clean
Good Location, chill hostel where you can socialise but also have plenty of time for yourself.
Great hostel. Amazing vibes. You get what you pay for so the facilities arent amazing, but the people and atmosphere make up for it. I also loved how the beds in my room were not bunk beds which was a nice change. Also a great location.
good staff. kitchen closes at night
Loved this hostel. Met some very nice people here and I love the beds. The upper beds have a floor as well. With the curtains you can create your own little room. Definitely recommend!
Cool hostel. Half of the hostel are french (and only speaking french of course) So social vibe was not great during our stay.
Great atmosphere, social, terrific central location. I signed up for a tour and there weren’t enough people but the owner Anthony took us out in his van anyway (at a financial loss to him), was an awesome guy and gave us tons of knowledge about Mexico and its history, mezcal, and life. I will say the nights can get quite loud which is great if you like to mingle, but if you are looking for quiet and cozy, optimize for that in another part of your trip. Highly recommend!
Good location, with nice/chill atmosphere. Mostly managed by volunteers, not always very helpful on advices about the city. Mexican breakfast included, which was a very nice plus.
Very nice hostel right in the centre of Oaxaca. It’s beautiful and the common areas are so nice. I stayed in the private room and it was perfect. One of the volunteers was a bit rude but everyone else was very nice. The showers have great pressure and hot water, but sometimes the toilets were dirty.
Iguana Hostel worked out great for me. The only suggestions for consideration I have include: 1) the Gold Room mattress and pillows could use replacements – both are extremely hard, more so than any others I've slept on/with; and 2) multiple decking boards leading to the extended rooftop area (opposite end from the bar) are coming loose. These could cause a serious header. They need to be replaced or, at the very least, re-securing.
I had a very pleasant Journey there.
This is one of those gems that make your entire trip. From the amazing volunteers to the little dog Luca. I felt so safe and looked after. There was always someone to go out dancing with. Always tasty breakfast on the table. I was having a bad time in Oaxaca but as soon as I switched hostels and came to Iguana, Oaxaca became my favourite city in the entire world. The location is amazing and they have cheap tours. Sending lots of love to you all, especially Soli, who looks after everyone so well....
