Very nice staff! Also very good location. Downside was that the beds are those bunk beds from Ikea for children, so it's a bit tricky to come down from. Isn't super social, but overall okay stay.
Ik zag een rating van 4,8 maar vind het eerlijk maar een 3 waard. Eerst en vooral heb ik van heel de week geen personeel gezien, com via whatsapp. Er is geen sfeer noch gezelligheid. De prijs is veel te hoog voor wat het is. 35 tot wel 50euro voor een bed in een super kleine dorm van 5 bedden met goedkope instabiele stapelbedden waarin je elke beweging van de persoon boven of onder jou voelt, is gewoon afzetterij. Heel kleine keuken. Kleine koelkast. Niet super proper. Enkel de locatie is top.
I saw a rating of 4.8 but honestly think it's worth a 3. First of all I haven't seen any staff all week, com via whatsapp. There's no atmosphere or sociability. The price is way too high for what it is. 35 to as much as 50 euros for a bed in a super small dorm of 5 beds with cheap unstable stacked beds in which you feel every movement of the person above or below you, it's just aftershock. Very small kitchen. Small cooler. Not super proper. Only location is top.
Cet endroit est extrèmement cher et n'a rien d'un hostel accueillant ! Il n'y a pas de personnel, tout se fait en "self", personne ne peut nous donner de renseignements sur les activités à faire ou les choses sympas de funchal. Nous avons été extrèmement déçues de cet endroit froid, qui ne nous a pas mis à l'aise du tout.
This place is extremely expensive and has nothing of a welcoming hostel ! there is no staff, everything is done "self", no one can give us information about activities to do or cool things about funchal. we were extremely disappointed with this cold place, which did not make us comfortable at all.
A perfectly fine hostel, well located, but there wasn't really any atmosphere. Especially for the price, I would have expected a lot more.
Das Team dort ist super nett und freundlich. Falls man Tipps und Empfehlungen gebraucht, sind die mitarbeitenden super hilfsbereit 😊 Betten sind bequem. Frühstück auch super lecker und viel. Leider hat mir ein Gemeinschaftsraum gefehlt, da die Küche doch sehr klein ist und das Café abends nicht mehr geöffnet hat.
The staff there is super nice and friendly. If you need tips and recommendations, the staff is super helpful 😊 Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is also super delicious and much more. Unfortunately I missed a common area, as the kitchen is very small and the café is no longer open in the evenings.
The atmosphere was chilled, though it was a shame they didn't organise anything. The beddings and towels were also nice, though there was no hair dryer in some rooms. Overall I really liked the design. Location was also very good.
Jaca Hostel is a great location to be able to explore downtown Funchal. It is a moderate facility, connected to a nice cafe. The staff were especially helpful when I had accidentally left something behind! I would stay here again.

A really nice place, well located. the atmosphere is not very social (no activities or social places to hang besides the cafe), but on the other hand most people traveling in Madeira are coming to crash for the night so it's not a surprise .
good points - delicious breakfast 90% cafe of staff friendly lovely view from room it was clean well presented great location cute hostel nice and quiet respectful residents. points to improve - I think as it is a hostel the reception should be 24 hours for security reasons there is no communal living area to hang out the kitchen is falling apart and there is not adequate storage for guests foods, no washing machine for communal use and there should be some accessible blankets for cold nights...

Love this Hostel!! I would recommend 100% everything was perfect! Rooms are super clean, decorations is really nice and the staff is super friendly! We had such a good time at this hostel and will 100% book it again!
Really enjoyed my time here! The staff were really friendly, there was a relaxed and sociable atmosphere the whole time. Rooms were really clean and considerately put together. Kitchen is small but has everything you need. The cafe and back yard are relaxing and beautiful places to hang out (although the main common area was closed one morning for a party hosted by the cafe which meant guests were not allowed to use the space - perhaps conflicting priorities here). Other than this amazing time.

Super convenient location - walkable to everything in central Funchal. My private room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Met great people. Relative to other hostels: - layout not quite as conducive to social connection - the staff are at the Cafe next door. Has an amazing breakfast, but a 930 opening didn't line up with my early morning hike plans, so seldom saw staff. - fancy door codes (front door, room) - handy and added to sense of security.
Had a really great time, lovely staff and a cozy place with a good breakfast, delicious food, and great coffee. The only downside is that I expected a washing machine or something similar. Parking is only available in the garage and costs €5 per time. Compared to Jaca Hostel in Porto da Cruz, the guests there felt a bit more social to me, with more of a surf vibe. In Funchal I missed that typical hostel feeling a little, maybe because there isn’t really a living room or a spot where people...
The place is nice and the staff amazing! They helped me out a lot, even when they weren’t working. It is however a very quiet hostel so if you’re looking for a party house, this isn’t it but the WhatsApp chat makes it easy to find people to hang out with! ☺️
Great location and very clean. Kitchen is small but has all the essentials. Always had to enter code several times to get the front door open, maybe there’s a trick I didn’t know but it always worked eventually.
We had a great 5 night stay! Location was perfect, easy to walk around Funchal, pop to the beach, and easy tour pick ups. Loved the smaller hostel vibes. Guests and staff were welcoming. Kitchen facilities were clean and organized. Having the outdoor terrace was an added perk for simple suppers and connecting with other guests. Our room was the perfect size for the two of us travelling.

Amazing hostel in great location :) Always extremely clean and the rooms are lovely with privacy curtains around each bed. Every room is en suite. The kitchen is small but if you’re not planning on cooking then that’s fine! If you’re relying on the hostel to meet people then you really need to join the WhatsApp group chat, which the Jaca Hostel team will send you details for before arrival :) Would definitely visit again!

Das hostel liegt gut, Busse gut erreichbar, nah genug am der Altstadt und dich ruhige Lage, sauber, nettes Cafe dabei, Küche ausgestattet zum Kochen, zimmer in Ordnung, Sauberkeit ok. Aber ich würde dort trotzdem nicht mehr hingehen, da es aufgrund der alten Bausubstanz vor allem abends/ nachts und früh morgens extrem laut war, wenn im Schlafsaal z.b. geduscht wurde. Die Rohr hämmern und röhren, wenn das Wasser durchfließt und es wird fast rund um die uhr geduscht, also wirklich laut , st�...
The hostel is well located, Busse gut erreichbar, close enough am der Altstadt and dich ruhige Lage, sauber, nettes Cafe dabei, Küche ausgestattet zum Kochen, Zimmer in Ordnung, Sauberkeit ok. But I would not go there anyway, as it was extremely noisy, especially in the evenings/nights and early mornings, when the Schlafsaal was geduscht.
Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt im Jaco Hostel in Funchal. Das Hostel ist sehr liebevoll gestaltet und die Mitarbeiter alle sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend! Im Café gibt es leckere Getränke und Speisen. Wir würden das Hostel auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen!
We had a very nice stay at Jaco Hostel in Funchal.The Hostel is very lovingly designed and the Staff are all very friendly and helpful!In the Café there are delicious Drinks and Food.We would definitely recommend the Hostel!
