YHA Cairns Central

I have stayed in many hostels during my travels, but unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences. The staff were unfriendly and disinterested, upon arrival I had to make my own bed and no towel was provided. The building and rooms are old, run-down, and not properly cleaned. The atmosphere is cold and impersonal – not at all what you would expect from a backpacker hostel in Cairns.

More of a homeless shelter than a youth hostel. Room is not clean, has a stench to it, occupied by elderly men who are clearly without permanent housing. Massive cockroaches were the icing on the cake. Book at your own risk. As a young person looking for a fun hostel experience, this could not have been further than what I was looking for

On my check-in day, I was attended by a staff who seemed bother-less. Spent 5 nights at this 'hostel', which seemed more like a motel to me. Nothing of adventure and outgoing spirit like they proclaim. Most of them seemed like long-term guests. The design is horrendous; white walls, basic furnishing and many unused facilities. Not to exaggerate, but the first feeling that I had was- prison. Cleanliness is horrible; same bin for 5 nights unchanged, toilet smell is terrible. I will never return.

This hostel is not for backpackers! My room was full of locals who wanted a cheap nights stay. The bed was filthy! I got told to sleep on another one as she couldn’t leave the till.. don’t stay here

Never made it due to discrimination, fraudulent active. Corporation when told didn't care. I would not recommend this place...

Ridiculously expensive for one bed in what looks like a prison cell. Not worth it.

Wouldn’t recommend this hostel. We had a private room with en-suite, the air con didn’t work properly and would turn off every half an hour, we also had lots of cockroaches crawling out of the drains in the bathroom which was pretty unpleasant. The kitchen was not clean and there was a lot of older/live-in guests so socialising was hard. Location was fine.

clean facilities and bedrooms. the hostel was pretty nice it just felt rather anonymous and you did not know most of the people when i was there.

A little far from everything, the staff were extremely rude, and the facilities weren’t great. Light in the room flickered constantly, the pool area is very small with all not a few chairs that get taken fast.

Ich war sehr krank als ich im Hostel ankam. Vee war super lieb zu mir und ich durfte sogar kostenlos in ein Privatzimmer upgraden. Die Küche und Bäder waren immer sauber. Es gab nur zwei alte Männer, die ein wenig unangenehm waren. Haben beispielsweise mit sich selbst gesprochen, aber dafür kann das Hostel natürlich nichts. Für die Frauen, aber vielleicht den Tipp ein Frauendorm zu buchen :)

The location of YHA was spectacular. My girlfriend and I were able to go to Cairns Central easily for food and other amenities which was perfect.

Rien à dire sur cette auberge, elle correspond parfaitement à ce qu’on attend d’un excellent hostel. L’ambiance est sociale sans être festive, ce qui est vraiment appréciable si vous cherchez un endroit calme pour vous reposer ou même travailler. La propreté est irréprochable : chambres propres, sanitaires impeccables, rien à redire là-dessus. Mention spéciale aussi pour l’accueil, qui était au top !

I had a solid stay at this hostel! While the hostel itself felt safe, the area around the hostel didn’t feel as safe. The washrooms were relatively clean!! The staff were very helpful. Parking was $10 per night and was right in the hostel so it was very convenient. Overall, solid hostel.

Very good facilities. Private room was nice and very clean. Kitchen also clean. Staff very friendly, atmosphere very dead as much quiet hostel not necessarily all backpackers but good to get away from party hostel for the night !

Not the young backpackers hostel it claims to be. Not social with no events. Seems like some people are living here. And lots of older guests 60yrs old. No Curtains in rooms which would have made me way more comfortable especially with the older guests. Everyone is throwing up sheets and tarps on their bed as a curtain and it looks like a shanty town. Major downfall is no socket anywhere near my bed. Bathrooms and kitchen very clean. Nice pool area. Helpful staff. Overall it is satisfactory

Had a great stay here. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom and the bathrooms were clean and the air conditioning in the room worked really well. Felt safe and secure. There’s a secure luggage room and the shared kitchen seemed to be good although we didn’t use it. Seemed pretty social with activities going on in the evenings but wasn’t really loud in the evenings which was good.

The rooms are very basic but good for the price. The area didn’t feel the safest but I’m not sure if that is everywhere in Cairns.

Bar sängar och rymligt rum med eget bad. Trevligt och rent kök och matsal. Perfekt med liten pool på gården som ofta är ledig. Bra tvätt och torkmöjligheter. Hjälpsam personal i receptionen. Jag kommer gärna hit igen.

Stayed in a private with a friend so unsure how social it is! $5 a night parking subject to availability! Bathrooms were very well maintained!

okay for a night. AC wasn't working in the dorm and it wasn't very social at the time I've been staying

YHA is in a great location and has a really nice area that it occupies. However, the social aspect seemed a little off and the room was not clean when I arrived. They did have a very good late check in system though. Overall I had a decent stay, but likely wouldn’t stay there again

If you’re looking for a chilled stay then YHA was great. There was plenty of kitchen space which made dinner time easy, and plenty of space to sit down around the property. Friendly staff and the place was regularly cleaned. Definitely would be improved with plug sockets next to beds though.

Not my favorite hostel. The facilities at this hostel are run down and it is not clean. The air conditioning in the private room that I booked did not work well, despite getting help from reception. It kept turning off every 30 minutes and made for an uncomfortable nights rest.

The best hostel we’ve stayed in in Cairns by far. We stayed in 3 and none of them came close to YHA. Super clean (the cleanest ever), chill, and nice facilities. The bathrooms were lovely, staff great. A great place to relax with a calm vibe. If you want a party hostel, this place isn’t for you. But it’s close to good pubs so if you want a bit of both with a quiet &good nights sleep, definitely come here. All other hostels were so incredibly loud. We had a great stay here. Definitely recom...

Great hostel, close to transport & shops. Very efficient. Not much atmosphere. No power points near beds.

Unfortunately not all guest cleaned up after in the kitchen, My room was very clean & comfortable & staff friendly & helpful. Nell
