Not a great hostel. The mattresses were old and very uncomfortable. The bed frames were shaky. No privacy curtains. 6 people had to share one power strip in the entire room and only had 4 outlets. The internet was unstable and kept dropping every 10 minutes. The location was in a nice neighborhood, but up a hill/mountain and made it tough to get back. Also a 30 minute walk from the city center.
Terrible location, no lifts for luggage, excessive amount of stairs. The shower was terrible, burning hot and then freezing cold, terrible pressure and very outdated. I got burnt so couldn’t shower on the last two days of my stay. The rooms were freezing cold, we were so uncomfortable all night. There was no PowerPoints or lights or anything near the beds which was extremely inconvenient and not enough for all guests. One of the worst hostels I have stayed in in a long while.
The staff was rude, save one employee. The electricity wasn’t reliable in some parts of the building. Not all of the amenities promised were provided. We were asked to pay several hundred pounds more than what we were told when we booked. The fire alarms went on and off early in the morning for at least an hour and for no reason. The location is farther from anything of interest than we were initially led to believe. We decided to end our trip early because we no longer wanted to stay.
The room literally smelled like urine it was so strong, the shower hardly drained and the front desk gave no assistance getting to the room
I wouldn’t recommend as a female solo traveler. There isn’t much of an atmosphere. The location is also far and while I knew that, it can be miserable when it’s rainy/windy outside. The staff are very kind. I had a room at the very top and my room was very cold. I couldn’t change the heat but staff did let me use another duvet. My shower was also quite cold. Their wifi didn’t work the two days I was there. Overall, okay hostel, probably best to travel in a group if staying here.
This hostel is not one that I would book again. It was pretty desolate with no lively atmosphere whatsoever. It was clean, however, there was something that felt a little eerie about the vibe I don’t know how it explain it. I really wouldn’t book this place again. The staff was lovely though very helpful with the problems that arose.
Sorry! A little disappointed! It was over 9 ratings, didn’t know how, it wasn’t cheap either. There is no light, phone charger and screen for privacy for each bed, once the main light is off, can’t see a thing, hot water for sink never got hot, and no hooks or shelves by the sink, no place to put anything, only saving grace is located on a hill with pretty views, only if one is fit to walk up hill, beware of the stairs if you want to stay in female-dom, no lift to go to 3rd floor.
I can’t in good conscience give this hostel a good rating considering there was MOULD covering the wall that my bed was on. The staff were also in charge in cleaning so even though they were very nice, it’s practically impossible to get a hold of them from 10-4. There’s no elevator, so get ready to drag your bag up 3 flights of stairs.
Beds were very uncomfortable. No elevator is brutal after the walk out of the subway. No real atmosphere going on. Mostly kids staying there. Very clean though and kitchen was well equipped and the rooms are very spacious
Bit deceiving calling it a youth hostel, no exaggeration that the average age of guests was 65-70+. Not much atmosphere, 4pm check in and 10am check out. No wall chargers by the beds, everybody has to share at the centre of the room. Shower was poor, I was staying on the third floor which was ridiculous effort to get to every time. A tonne of stairs. Disappointing

My and a friend stayed in a double twin ensuite for two nights. Had no complaints - room was plain but clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Location was brilliant, short walk to anything you needed and about a 30 min walk into the city centre.
Overall à really great experience but minus point for the water not drinkable in the room, only 2 sockets for an 8-people dorm and no real vibes but overall it’s a really nice place and a lovely staff!
Excellent 1 night stopover in Glasgow when we were in town to watch Glasgow Warriors rugby nearby. Perfect hostel with great facilities, very clean and extremely helpful staff.... see you again next week!😁👍
was only there for a night, but yeah the locations great! it’s nice not being right in the middle of the chaos of the city centre. loads of good stuff to do nearby as well. atmosphere was a bit wierd but not exactly the hostels fault.
Pros: friendly and welcoming staff, gorgeous huge building, has a kitchen, seemed like a few good recreational spaces for meeting people, decent cheap breakfast, bed was fairly comfortable, there are a few bus lines that run nearby (you will have a bit of hill to walk up at the end). Cons: If you get stuck in the top room, you must schlep a few flights for a glass of water (can't drink from the sinks), no outlet or storage space by the bed (except a roughly phone-sized mini shelf), no shelf at...
Great hostel, friendly accomodating staff , excellent location
Hostel Location is Fine, somewhat on a hill but easy to reach and beautiful view. Stuff were nice but couldnt help with the puzzling public-Transport System. Room was okay, but quite Cold, because of old, not so good windows. Bathroom directly on room could be nice but was bad: tap was broken and couldnt turn completely off. Toilet didn’t flush right, so toilet clogged. Walls extremely thin so every flush you could hear in the sleeping room. In the shower the water couldn’t rinse off. Few h...
Amazing homey feel, amazing way to end the day running around. Beautiful building and very comfortable beds.
The room literally smelled like urine it was so strong, the shower hardly drained and the front desk gave no assistance getting to the room
We stayed at Glasgow Youth Hostel three nights and found this place great for us. It was clean, spacious, safe and well located for places we explored in Glasgow. We enjoyed access to the kitchen and common arias to cook and rest after long day of exploring and walking.
Staff was so friendly upon my arrival and answered all my questions from a brain coming off of a travel day. There is a sainsbury close by to grab some snacks. The building itself is very cool with lounge spaces and a huge kitchen. The beds were comfy and I slept well!
Beautiful everithing, but the bedroom too empty and the bed comfortable only a little
Good to be able to leave luggage, self catering kitchen a bit short of pans but otherwise fine Staff friendly and helpful Hostel warm and comfy
If you're staying in Glasgow this is definitely one of the best value for money places to stay! Would highly recommend!
Very safe and nice area, helpful staff, clean rooms, everything you need for a stay in the city!
We were freezing in our room, my friend slept with her beanie and scarf on
Gorgeous location. Walking distance to OVO which is why we were there. Nice park, near the university and botanic gardens. Lovely interior. Rooms really big and had toilet and shower inside = life change. A proper shower too! Staff so nice.
Definitely the best spot in Glasgow. All of the staff were shockingly friendly - the ginger guy is hilarious - and accomodating. Spotless facilities and a open common room with a beautiful, expansive window. Thank you to Glasgow Youth Hostel for such a welcoming experience!
Amazing building with some gorgeous common spaces (the staircase, reading lounge). Super nice staff, fairly comfortable beds, nice location. Cons: Bathroom was not very clean and smelled terrible. No elevator, which could be a challenge for some travelers (there's a lot of stairs). No potable water in the rooms, so had to go down to the first floor.
I've stayed in quite a few hostels and never left a review before, but I couldn't not comment on my stay here! It was such an historic, magical building. The hostel had a beautiful common room and my dorm overlooked the city skyline. I would recommend staying here, I treasure this Glasgow trip and this hostel is part of the reason!
