Bedbug infestation in room 18. The room smelled of varnish and the beds were moved about 20cm off the walls on all sides on arrival. After being bitten numerous times I took a torch to the underside of the mattress and found a fully engorged adult bedbug which I killed. I was bitten again after this. When raised with the only staff member I could find she denied any knowledge of bedbugs at the hostel - I'm very sceptical about that as I remembered the strange smell and bed positionings.
Would not recommend staying here! There were bed bugs in our room. The 10 bed dorm has 2 beds with no ladders so you end up clambering over the person beneath you to reach your bed. There are also no plug sockets anywhere near the beds and not enough plug sockets in the room for everyone to charge their phones. You have to pay for the wifi and the lockers in the rooms are open cubby holes so there is no where to securely store stuff in the rooms. But the bus to tongariro stops outside the hostel
Sadly there were bed bugs in the room 12
Very dirty todo. I don't recommend going at all
I was REALLY surprised by our experience. I have no problem paying top market prices for a hostel in a good location as long as it has the BASICS. This place doesn't. Everything broken down, including broken door knobs so doors couldn't close. Maybe the place just got handed off to new owners??? In example: The super stressed staff didn't know how to turn the heat on in the room. Finally 3 people together figured it out. Mattress was terrible. The place is just rotting away. Felt bad for staff.
In the kitchen it had been on the day of arrival eine verfaultes Essen im Kühlschrank, two days later it was still there. The beds are äusserst uncomfortable. Back pain is guaranteed. Personal unfriendly Our reserved Zimmer was nicht bereit, they wanted first that after a night we change the room, as we were going to get a different Private Room. For Wi-Fi you have to pay extra. In today's Zeit lacherlich. If you go further am Bahnhofparkplatz 800m further you get free Wi-Fi
Come on guys. Charging for WiFi in 2023?? It is like charging for use of power outlet or tap water. You can do better than this. Aside that, clean and quiet hostel.
Really rude customer service at the reception when we arrived. That guy was just rolling his eyes and didnt want to help with anything. Cant recommened this place! Toilets were far away from our room. All the restaurants were closed, only one supermarket near.
This was a really experience for us. Facilities were bad and you are only allowed 250 mb of internet for the entire stay (we stayed 3 nights). I don’t understand the good reviews.
As hostels go, this one is badly in need of maintenance and a few simple upgrades. For having things like bathroom doors that wouldn’t close, it was surprisingly clean, so I appreciated that. The location is good for the national park, but there isn’t much else around. Staying in okhune would probably be better and only slightly less convenient for the national park. Staff I interacted with were fine but a little rude. Flies everywhere inside. Would not go back.

YHA National Park Backpackers was amazing! It was so comfortable, the bunks were super cozy, made of wood, and clean. Each room has their own bathroom and shower, also very clean. The location is perfect, about a 12 minute drive from the Tongariro National Park. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back!
Cute rustic and authentic place. Cool hall to climb and if weather fits there are buses that take you right in front of the hostel for the crossing.

The accommodation was well located for hiking in the National Park. You could park well and wash laundry for a few euros.
I absolutely loved this hostel, there is literally a top rope climbing wall in the hostel! The kitchen / dining area really felt like a summer camp as well, which is super nostalgic. They also do a really good job of composting and minimizing waste, which is appreciated. The Tongariro alpine crossing shuttles also come to pick hikers up right in front of this hostel as well. There are two restaurants and a convencience store right next to the hostel.
We absolutely loved it here. To get to our room we had to go through the climbing hall which was pretty cool. Everything was clean and there is a Minigolf right next to the hostel which was also fun. The only big downside is the noise. You can here everything through the walls. We were next to the kitchen and above us was a school class so it was really loud. The students sometimes jumped down from the beds and our bed was literally shaking. But apart from that really really nice hostel
I reported 3/14 on your website that a member of my party was covered head to toe with bed bug bites. It a terrible case; painful, large burn-like red welts, headaches and many inconveniences dealing with our belongings so as to contain the situation. 5283052: bed bugs bookings 23723-576006605

I have never been to a backpacker like YHA before. I was so amazed that the amount of kitchen stuff (cookware, cutleries, fridge, and a lot more) just overwhelmed me. I loved the atmosphere meeting other people of the same minds, being there for the outdoors. Friendly staff, clean inside and out, very conducive to where we wish to go. Even though I have rated the security being medium, but still I find the accommodation very safe. Room assigned to us was great! RECOMMENDED!!!
The bathrooms are next to the climbing wall which makes the bathrooms smell sweaty. The bed was small. There is free parking. The location is great and staff was nice too
Accueil très sympathique. Il nous a donné d'excellents conseils. C'était propre et bien entretenu. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour.
He gave us excellent advice, it was clean and well maintained, we had a great stay.
- bit old&could have more space for storage your things.rest just pretty good. perfect for a stay before & after tongariro crossing.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here: Great location, lovely staff, and very comfortable beds. The staff were accommodating and the other guest were very kind, the vibe is social but if you don't want to socialise there is tranquility in the small garden area too. This hostel is ideal for walking the Alpine crossing.
An OK hostel, in a great location close to the park. Beds were fine, and parking good. The kitchen could use some help. The freezer was small, full and had a lot of old stuff in it. There was nothing to make coffee in, which is a major miss I think. A couple of presses or a percolator would be good. Staff were helpful but 2 of 3 were new and didn’t know much themselves (fair) so we learned together.

really great place to stay, clean and had everything we needed!
Good spot for visiting Tongariro National Park
I recommend it, the beds are super comfortable and the climbing room is a real plus!! a spacious hostel ideally located to explore the National Park
Accommodation, many Super Mountainbike Tours and Kletterhalle. but to the toilet you have to go down an Stockwerk.
We had a great experience, well equipped kitchen (to be honest we had our own sharp knife), free towels and a brilliant time at the very reasonable prices climbing wall. Staff was always very helpful and mostly absolutely lovely! Not all of them the most open people when not on duty though, maybe still training period. We would absolutely come again.
