The pictures of the pool are very misleading, it’s more of a jacuzzi size rather than an actual pool. During our time here there was construction and it was very loud so it was hard to enjoy the communal areas. The place did not feel very clean, the floor in our hostel room was pretty dirty, the indoor communal area upstairs had an odd smell, it smelt damp, and of wet dog, not only that but the floor here was so dirty, it was carpeted and it did not look like it was ever vacuumed cleaned.

The dorms are extremely filthy but the private rooms are clean enough
Good location and friendly staff, however the rooms are in really bad conditions, not properly cleaned and in bad conditions (mold and other things). we had no hot water for our stay as it only works in sunny days.
Unfortunately hostel wasn’t clean. The breakfast was really average and the rooms were really hot and with no ac. Which means windows open and noisy and bugs coming into room and people get bit. Not the best vibe bunch of older people staying, most likely wouldn’t come back here.
Tuvimos una terrible experiencia con el hostel y más con el manager. Nos ofreció una habitación que no habíamos reservado, aluciendo que era mejor. Pasó que mientras estuvimos fuera, ordenó mover nuestras cosas personales de la peor manera y sin previo aviso a otra habitación. Sí sabíamos que haría eso, no hubiéramos aceptado la habitación inicial, pues en nuestras cosas dejamos dinero, tarjetas de crédito, etc. NO SE HOSPEDEN AQUÍ. Nunca reconoció el error. Aparte las habitacione...
We had a terrible experience with the hostel and more with the manager. He offered us a room that we had not reserved, hinting that it was better. It happened that while we were out, he ordered us to move our personal things in the worst way and without prior warning to another room. If we knew he would do that, we would not have accepted the initial room, as in our things we left money, credit cards, etc.
Todo fue terrible, la atención por parte de la recepcionista fue horrible, nunca lavaron los baños y los usaban más de 20 personas, uno de los baños duro tapado 3 días y el olor era insoportable. El desayuno blastante deficiente, lleno de moscos, los cubiertos sucios. Lo único bueno es la ubicación pero hay mejores opciones. Las instalaciones son agradables pero la atención es pésima y el aseo inexistente, hace falta un buen administrador.
Everything was terrible, the service from the receptionist was horrible, the toilets were never washed and were used by more than 20 people, one of the toilets was closed for 3 days and the smell was unbearable. The blastingly poor breakfast, full of flies, the dishes dirty. The only good thing is the location but there are better options. The facilities are nice but the service is lousy and the toilet is non-existent, you need a good administrator.
Deceptive Cost Per Day Advertisement. The rate is getting bunch of Junk fees that you learn only after you made reservation and paid deposit. I cannot comment on facility and cleanings as I never made to the hostel but could not cancel on day of arrival due to lock on my account after 72 advance deadline. I lost my passport and even airlines gave me breaks on ticket price due to unfortunate event but these people are callously indifferent to your situation just baseness, no humanity here at all.
I didn’t feel the “hostal” vibe

No tuve una buena experiencia durante mi estadía, al llegar y preguntar si había cocina el chico del staff me dijo que si, por lo que decidí comprar algunos alimentos, posterior a eso, me dicen que era un error, por lo que mis compras se hecharon a perder. Y por otro lado, muy poca amabilidad de la señora del desayuno, me indicaron que el horario era a las 7:30 y al preguntarle a esa hora por cuánto tiempo tardaría, se notó un montón su molestia, ya que no estaba listo.
I didn't have a good experience during my stay, when I arrived and asked if I had cooked the staff guy said yes, so I decided to buy some food, after that, they tell me it was a mistake, so my purchases went to waste. and on the other hand, very little kindness from the breakfast lady, they indicated that the time was 7:30 and when I asked her at that time how long it would take, I noticed a lot of her annoyance, since she was not ready.
Great location, plenty to do, and a very social atmosphere! The staff is so helpful and sweet! My only complaint is that the rooms get hot during the day. Everything else was phenomenal!

Best hostel in Santo Domingo. Great vibe, perfect location within walking distance of restaurants, shops, colmados, and the malecón. Wonderful and attentive staff and host with a yummy breakfast included. We easily arranged tours with their help. This is the place to stay if you are visiting Santo Domingo.

I traveled to Santo Domingo last month with my 2 friends from Ireland. The owner, Chris, was extremely welcoming and friendly. He’s a very funny lad who’s down for a good laugh. We’ve stayed at many hostels around the world, but Island Life had the best all round vibe. The hostel is very aesthetic and clean, featuring a beautiful wooden oak bar with very cheap drinks, a nice swimming pool, and spacious rooms. I just love this place! it was my third time staying here and I have never made even one single bad experience with this hostel! The staff member are super nice and welcoming and help you with all the questions you could have. The vibe is chill and social and the breakfast included in the price is very good aswell! Not to mention the perfect location right in the Colonial Zone!
es gibt leider keine Klimaanlage und die Ventilatoren in den Zimmern waren auch kaputt, so dass es sehr heiß wurde. Das Personal ist freundlich und die Zimmer sauber. Nur das WLAN funktioniert nicht immer und das Frühstück wäre ausbaufähig.
Unfortunately there is no air conditioning and the fans in the rooms were also broken, so it got very hot. the staff is friendly and the rooms clean. only the WLAN does not always work and the breakfast would be expandable.
J’étais dans une chambre mixte de 4 personnes, je n’ai pas du tout aimé. La chambre était minuscule sans fenêtre ça faisait un peu prison. Les lits sont tout petits et il n’y a pas rideaux. La salle de bain commun n’est pas très propre, ce serait bien que le ménage soit fait plusieurs fois dans la journée. Sinon l’emplacement est très bien, on peut tout faire à pied. Le personnel est très sympa. Mais je ne recommande pas cet hostel.
I was in a mixed room for 4 people, I didn't like it at all. The room was tiny without a window it was a bit of a prison. The beds are very small and there are no curtains. The common bathroom is not very clean, it would be good if the cleaning was done several times a day. Otherwise the location is very good, everything can be done on foot. The staff is very friendly. But I don't recommend this hostel.

Un Hostel con personal y ambiente increíble. Ideal si viajas solo. Ubicado en el centro de Las Terrenas, sin grandes lujos pero rodeado de naturaleza. Sin duda repetiría mi estadía.
A hostel with incredible staff and atmosphere. ideal if you are traveling solo. located in the center of Las Terrenas, without great luxuries but surrounded by nature. would definitely repeat my stay.
