Do not recommend this place. The elderly male staff kept staring at us during breakfast and inappropriately touched me and my friend during our stay. The place was cold and totally empty during off season. A kiss on the cheek by an old Sri Lankan man definitely wasn’t in my bucket list!!!
Établissement très éloignée de la ville, désertique tant dans son périmètre géographique que dans ses murs. J’ai eu l’impression de débarquer chez des gens et pas du tout d’être dans une auberge de jeunesse. On indique un stand pour prendre café ou thé en arrivant et voilà. L’hotel était vide et en attendant on m’a quand même donné la chambre juste derrière la réception, au RDC avec vu sans filtres sur le parking… je ne recommande pas …
Very far away from the city, deserted both in its geographical perimeter and in its walls. I had the impression of landing at people's houses and not at all being in a youth hostel. You indicate a stand to have coffee or tea upon arrival and voilà. The hotel was empty and in the meantime you still get the room right behind the reception, in the DRC with unfiltered view on the parking lot... I don't recommend ...
The people and the owner are very kind and they have a good breakfast. But in the female dorm there was no heather so it was freezing in the night. The dorm is also a bit more up the hill with only a fragile door to close the dorm. When the wind is really hard it feels not nice. Because they don’t heath anything there is mold growth everywhere.
Would not recommendet it as a woman woman who travels alone...one worker stares at me and touched me without permission. Room was "okay", smelled very moldy but clean. Was very cold at night, duvet was not suitable for that. Location was good. Was there on a weekend day and in the neighbourhood it was very loud at night.
Die Lage des Hauses ist etwas am hang und dadurch hat man einen schönen Blick über die Berge. Von außen sieht das Haus super schön aus, auch die Räume sind in Ordnung. Wir hatten den 3er dorm mit privatem bad gebucht, wurden aber einfsch in den 5er dorm gesteckt, welcher günstiger ist. Nach mehrmaligen Nachfragen bekamen wir den Preisunterschied für eine Person zurück. Kein Problem in einem 5er dorm zu schlafen nur der Umgang hat uns das Gefühl gegeben, dass wir verarscht wurden.
The location of the house is a bit sloping and from there you have a nice view over the mountains. From the outside the house looks super nice, the rooms are also in order. we had booked the 3rd dorm with private bathroom, but were stuck in the 5th dorm, which is cheaper. after several inquiries we got the price difference for one person back. no problem sleeping in a 5th dorm only the surroundings gave us the feeling that we were being mistaken.
Hierbei handelt es sich nicht wirklich um einen Schlafsaal im eigentlichen Sinn. Es war ein Zimmer für 3 Personen ohne der Möglichkeit dinge zu versperren. Nachdem ich alleine im Zimmer war, war dass aber kein Problem. Das gesamte Gebäude wirkt abgewohnt. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und wenn man nach etwas fragt wird einem auch immer geholfen. Das Frühstück besteht aus einem Omelett, Butter, Toastbrot, Joghurt, Marmelade und Früchten sowie aus Kaffee und Tee.
This is not really a bedroom in the proper sense. It was a room for 3 people without the possibility of locking things. Since I was alone in the room, that was but no problem. The whole building seems unfamiliar. The staff is very friendly and if you ask for anything you are always helped. Breakfast consists of an Omelette, Butter, Toastbrot, Yoghurt, Marmalade and Fruit as well as coffee and tea.
The room was clean(ish) and nice views. Breakfast was good. If you’re looking for social hostel, this is not it, we didnt really meet anyone, but it was calm. The room was really cold since it was 12 degrees outside and no heating.
I stayed one night at House of Leisure to break up the Kandy to Ella train journey. I'd booked this hostel based on all the good reviews, however turned up to find it was more of a hotel and I didn't see any other guests during my stay. If you're after any socialising this probably isn't the place for you! Aside from that it was clean, staff were helpful, free breakfast was huge, and I'm sure the views would have been great if it was less cloudy!
House of Leisure is eerder een hotel dan een hostel. Vanuit de receptie wordt ook niet proactief geholpen met het vinden van activiteiten, het huren van een scooter etc.
The reception desk is also not proactively helped with finding activities, renting a scooter etc.
Despite the lovely room, we had several unfortunate incidents where an elderly male staff member tried to inappropriately touch my friend and I (we are 2 girls travelling alone). The owner wasn't around to raise the issue and the man in question spoke no english to argue. Really would recommend against staying here if you're a woman travelling alone or don't have men in the group!

Wir zwei Mädels waren für 2 Nächte in einem 5er Dorm. Das Zimmer war sauber, groß und hatte eine sehr gute heiße Dusche. Die Gastgeber waren freundlich und haben uns weiter geholfen, falls wir Fragen hatten. Man hat eine schöne Aussicht und wir hatten einen Balkon.
We two girls stayed for 2 nights in a 5 bedroom. the room was clean, large and had a very good hot shower. the hosts were friendly and helped us out if we had any questions. it has a nice view and we had a balcony.
Good location and friendly staff. The room was nice and clean. 2 points: 1) room was between the reception, the dining area, and the staff quarters. On the first night there was a lot of noise outside the room. Some form of argument between guests and the staff member. With argument concluded the staff was shouting loudly on the phone to someone until 23:50. 2) water in the water filter was dirty. When I pointed it out the staff did remove the dirty water but bad that it hadn’t been checked!
I really enjoyed my stay at this place. It was super comfortable and the host was very welcoming. Anytime we had questions he was more than happy to help us. The room I got was amazing, only thing was the shower was placed in an odd part which made the toliet get all wet. But no other complaints. This place has stunning landscape views and quite a few common room areas where you can chill out. Another thing is I didn’t find it as social maybe one to think about if you are solo travelling :)
I really enjoyed my stay in the house of leisure!! It is a huge building with british oriented interior and a lot of chill areas. I had a food poisoning during my stay and the staff was so helpful and I could even extend my checkout. The beds are really comfortable and it was giving villa feelings. Definitely would come again!!
Wat een fijne plek! Bij aankomst werd ik warm verwelkomd. Mijn kamer was niet alleen schoon, maar ook sfeervol ingericht. Het personeel deed echt een stapje extra om mijn verblijf aangenaam te maken. Er lijkt wel een vocht probleem te zijn, schimmel plekken in de douche en op andere plekken in het hotel.
What a nice place! on arrival i was warmly welcomed. my room was not only clean but also atmospherically furnished. the staff really went a step further to make my stay pleasant. there seems to be a moisture problem, mold stains in the shower and other places in the hotel.
The room is very big and has everything you need. It’s a little bit older but for the price you get a lot. It is located a little bit away from everything but it’s easy to order a tuk tuk. Breakfast was delicious. There is not dinner restaurant here so you will have to find dinner in town. The staff is very sweet and makes sure you have everything you need. I saw a sign in the room that said they will rent a space heater for extra charge if you need it, I didn’t need it but good to know.
This hotel has the most beautiful view from the balcony, terrace, the rooms and the common rooms. The host is super sweet and prepared a lovely breakfast for us! It is a very calm place and nice to have some downtime, surrounded by beautiful hikes!
Property was a bit away from the centre but the host was very lovely. Upgraded us to a private room as it was spare and was helpful in quickly sorting out a power issue in the morning
We stayed here for one night but wished we could stay longer. Our host was so welcoming and friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. We had tea on arrival and he organised and took us on a tour of Nuwara Eliya which was so fun and interesting and saved us a lot of hassle. Breakfast was delicious and service was perfect. Location was incredible with beautiful views! Couldn’t recommend enough.

Lovely and relaxing place to stay in Nuwara Eliya House of Leisure truly lives up to its name. The property is calm, clean, and surrounded by beautiful greenery, making it a perfect place to relax. This hostel was beautiful and the staff was so helpful! Even let us run their clothes drier when the weather was rainy. Had a lovely, cozy fireplace, and breakfast was great too.
Amazing stay at House of Leisure, Nuwara Eliya! I had a wonderful experience here. The rooms were clean, cozy, and warm—perfect for the cool Nuwara Eliya weather. The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful, always ready to assist with travel tips or anything I needed. The location is peaceful, with beautiful surroundings and easy access to the town. Very clean, friendly and peaceful stay. Beautiful homely decor with lots of quiet common space. I was in a room of three single beds with a fantastic view of the tea plantations and a spacious, clean bathroom. The staff were very attentive and kind. Ten minute Tuk Tuk into the town area for dinner if you don’t want to walk down the hill ✨

Unfortunate i was sick on my two nights in Nuwara Eliya but was taken very good care of the host. He came to check in me and even took me to the doctor to get some medicine and food. The bed was comfortable and the location is in a quite area. Thanks again!

Loved it here! The place itself is beautiful, clean and welcoming. I stayed in there female only dorm and it was immaculately clean. And I felt very safe here as a solo female traveler. Definitely one of the nicest places I’ve stayed in. Location wise it’s very convenient, walking distance from town. The people who work here are also very helpful and kind. 10/10 from me!
