La Hamaca Hostel - Utila

Other hostels had better hammocks, which is shameful for a place called “La Hamaca.” No trash bins, you must use neighboring businesses’ bins. Doors left open, stray dogs came in and pooped on the floor. Outdoor toilets locked at night, forcing you to cross the dorm where people sleep (no door, beds in hallway!!) just to use the bathroom. Owner doesn’t care. Avoid.

We couldn’t find the hostal. There’s a sign at the gate, inside a sign for pink flamingo, and one that says private property. We thought we were trespassing. Staff were rude when mentioning a sign. Exchange rate is off, so we paid more than expected. We were shown the room and left to figure it out (toilets, shower, wifi). Guests were locked out at night because of multiple locks, no staff to help. No outlets for top bunks and too hot to sleep since fans don’t reach all beds. Bad experienc...

I tried emailing the website about conditions here, and they were not very helpful. This place is a disaster waiting to happen. Shortly after I arrived in late afternoon, a padlock was secured on the main exit door in the main dorm room. This meant the only exit is at the front of the house. There is exposed wiring all over the place. It is a wooden structure. The padlock remains on the door until the cafe opens in the morning. Front door uses a code. Not certain it ever changes.

The son of one of the employees goes in the dorm and steals stuff. When I complained about it the staff told me that I’d better pay for a private room there. Bedbugs everywhere, no hot water neither electricity. Complete rip-off. Don’t stay here.

Pretty dock when the weather is good! Rooms are basic and okay. With bad weather; rain could get in making some beds wet..! People had to move to empty beds to stay dry. Overpriced + free towel of the hostel + pretty dock to chill - bar/reception is a lot of times closed - drinkwater wasn’t refilled during the 24th/25th/26th of december (Christmas) - cold showers and bad shower in general (one turned an other shower on for example..) - hostelcat who tends to sleep on your bed at night�...

The location is good. I was there during very bad weather and then this hostel is not the best place to hang out. The staff is almost never at the hostel and the bar is always closed. Besides that, the door has a code to open it, but the code is the same for ages, so everyone on the island knows the code.

Property is not as advertised. There is no restaurant on site, and bar/reception area was closed by 6:30pm, with no staff present after that time. Staff was extremely unwelcoming and unhelpful during my arrival. Credit card machine was not working and I did not have enough cash to cover my stay... was not offered to utilize PayPal, which I now see is an option on their listing. Was not able to get my free welcome drink as advertised, did not see where the free water was, and coffee was not out a...

When we arrived we weren’t even told there was a front door / keypad number. The main socialising/eating area is nice but closes at 2pm and is deserted after that. The dorms were okay, clean enough but the bed sheets didn’t fit the bed so came off instantly. I would have preferred to not pay the more expensive price and stayed at a cheaper hostel instead.

We were the only guests the first night which contributed to the low atmosphere. We went to Utila for diving and learnt when we arrived that the most common thing to do is to stay at the dive shops (which is what we did the rest of our stay).

Very disappointed to find it doesn’t have a kitchen, ICE cold showers and mouldy bathrooms. Not impressed with this hostel what so ever, the bedrooms are falling apart annd the whole building is on stilts and shakes whenever someone moves in the room and it’s such a loud place to stay you- i had 3 terrible nights sleeps although the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The cafe however is good but is only open until 2pm which is abit annoying

Excellent stay. I did book a private room so that added to my ranking. But the shared dormitory rooms all had lockers for storage. The space was clean. The view unbelievable. Good vibe. Great location

Ich hab nur eine Nacht dort verbracht um am morgen die Fähre zu nehmen. Alle waren nett und das Bett war sehr bequem. Du Badezimmer waren sauber - sonst hab ich nichts genutzt

A localização é excelente e utila é uma ilha linda, se for a utila e roatan passe pouco tempo em roatan pq utila é muito mais linda. Da pra rodar tudo de bike, moto ou Quadri. Falta uma cozinha e geladeira para uso de hóspedes.

schön gelegenes hostel direkt am wasser. zimmer sehr einfach, aber i.o. leider absolut kein hostelvibe: weder aktivitäten, gemeinschaftsbereich (das auf den fotos ist nur das externe café) und keine richtige ansprechsperson.

La ubicación del hostal es ideal, esta en el centro de todo, muy cerca de tiendas de conveniencia, restaurantes, escuelas de buceo y bares, aunque este cerca de todos estos lugares, podes descansar no se escuchan ruidos. Comparte espacio con un restaurante para desayunos muy bueno y con la mejor vista en la isla. El host siempre estuvo pendiente de mis consultas y llegada. pienso que es ideal si estas viajando sol@.

Un lugar mágico en Utila, justo frente al mar. El servicio, la limpieza y la ubicación excelentes. La comida es muy rica en la cafetería frente al hostal.

Great little place conveniently located just 100m or so from the ferry terminal in Utila. The staff are nice, and the downstairs cafe has a seating area right on the waterfront which makes for a beautiful spot to read, play games etc. The bathroom/sleeping facilities are basic but perfectly fine for a few nights, if a bit hot without AC. Overall very good value for money

We had a great stay at La Hamaca. The cafe attached has amazing food and a great area to lounge. The staff were so lovely. We got really lucky to be able to upgrade to a room with air conditioning when we checked in. I don’t know how we would have survived if we had to stay in the room we originally booked because it was so hot. The bathrooms were extremely hot, I would drip sweat all over every time I went for even just a minute or two.

Great accommodation. The lady helping me check in was very kind, she also helped me leaving the island, since that was a bit complicated. Overall very helpful staff. Hygiene was fine. When i was there, there weren’t a lot of other travelers so I was mostly on my one

L’hostel est bien placé, en revanche un des dortoir est simplement un couloir, il n’y a aucune ambiance et absolument rien d’organisé par l’hostel le soir et la journée. Pourtant il y a un énorme potentiel

Nice hostel but not very social… the terrasse is a good place to hang out out and there are some places to sit down. The staff is friendly and they just opened a cafe. The rooms are fine, the bathrooms are clean. Unfortunately we had a heavy rain and through the closed windows some rain dropped on my bed. They accept card but there’s also a free ATM one minute away. Big minus: No kitchen. Due to high prices on the island I would’ve loved a kitchen. But they gave me some utensils to eat my ...

After reading some of the reviews I was skeptical to book, but I did anyway. I’m not hard to please, so in my honest opinion, this hostel really is not that bad. The staff were nice and professional, check-in was quick and easy. I stayed for 5 days and everyday someone came in to clean up. It would be great if they had a kitchen, but at least there’s a restaurant on site. The stay would’ve been perfect, but I unfortunately got devoured by bed bugs really bad. Hopefully they fix this issue.

O ponto fraco do hostel é de fato o “quarto” compartilhado com ventilador que não é um quarto e sim uma área de passagem. A luz fica acesa a noite inteira o que dificulta dormir. O ventilador era ok, mas fica do lado do banheiro o que pode ser um inconveniente as vezes. Não tem parede. E não há um espaço de interação. Só o café na frente mas não eh bem um espaço pra descansar de verdade. Eu achei um custo alto pela estrutura fornecida. Não ter cozinha é um ponto baixo. A lo...

I was in the dorm which is not really a room. Everything was open and everyone who went to the bathroom or to the terrace could have a look in our beds or made me wake up because of light and sounds. when someone did the big business and left the bathroom doors open it smelled really bad around our beds. I wished they had curtains at the beds or at least a room divider for more privacy. the stuff is nice and next to it it's a very beautiful hostel with direkt exces to the water and delicious bar
