To be honest, I was expecting better but unfortunately i cannot say that I enjoyed my stay. My friends and I woke up and had bed bug bites and the overall atmosphere was kind of mid.
Verschrikkelijk behandeld door dit hostel. Een giga groot dodelijk ongeluk voor ons gebeurd en alle bussen hebben 5 uur moeten wachten. Alle hostels hebben gewacht op de gasten aangezien de hele weg was gesloten maar dit hostel kon niet wachten omdat al het personeel uit was en wilde slapen. Ook gewoon moeten betalen terwijl ik netjes heb gebeld om de situatie uit te leggen en eerst was alles helemaal goed. Hoe kan ik voorspellen dat er een ongeluk gebeurd en 72 uur van te voren cancellen? Kom h...
Demasiado caro para el tipo de facilidad que es, si hubiera pagado 10 dlls por noche la historia sería otra. Estaba muy sucio y cuando llegué las otras viajantes tenían TODAS sus cosas en el suelo... finalmente me salió un alacrán y la picadura de uno de ellos es muy peligrosa.
No pude hacer efectiva ni reserva porque llegue a las 11pm y la recepción estaba cerrada, avise con antelación e igualmente me dijeron que nl harían nada al respecto que igusl cerraban, cobraron el dinero de la noche pero no pude tomar el servicio, 0 empaticos, 0 comprensivos.
Das Hostel liegt abgelegen, am Abend ist der Weg dahin nicht gut ausgeleuchtet. Der Hund war manchmal agressiv und irgendwie hat es keinen gekümmert. Es gab keinen Nachtwächter und die Zimmer sind nicht verschließbar. Die Küchenutensilien haben längst ihren Zenit überschritten und die Küche hatte ein Ameisenproblem. Auch, wenn die Leute nett waren, würde ich nicht wieder buchen.
The hostel is remote, the way to it is not well lit at night. The dog was sometimes aggressive and somehow it didn't care. There was no night watchman and the rooms are unlockable. The kitchen utensils have long since exceeded their zenith and the kitchen had an ant problem. Even if the people were nice, I wouldn't book again.
very nice staff. but worst hostel i stayed in 6 months central america. u cant close the dorm= a lot mosquitos inside and big roaches, wlan in the dorm is sh*t, the staff i very kind, but whats up with the owner, he should make this place better. not really a 'jungel Hostel' and far from the town. Taxi cost like 3500-4000 colones
Rock hard mattresses, which will either fix your back pain or cause it. Don't forget to pack your bug spray cause you'll use it all to keep yourself safe from the ones that fall from the ceiling. The hostel staff are genuinely confused and lacking in any knowledge about the area. The kitchen is dirty and the rooms are hot and noisy. If they changed the mattresses, the staff and gave it a goof clean it could be a really nice hostel. Cheap though.

Nice, lovely Hostel. Dorm, bathroom&kitchen were clean and there even is a TV with Netflix on it. I enjoyed the nature&silence surounding thd hostel. Only thing if you don't have a bicycle/car&dont want to depend on the bus schedule, it's a one hour walk to Puerto Viejo centre.
De slaapzaal was echt niet aangenaam. Er zijn veel muggen en de bedden hier hebben geen muggennet. Het is er heel vochtig en dat ruik je ook. Al het materiaal is oud: ventilators piepen enorm, keukengerei is erg versleten… een beetje vergane glorie. Als je houdt van een rustige sfeer en weinig tot geen sociaal contact dan kan je hier wel je draai vinden. Maar kies dan best voor een privekamer, die hebben een muggennet :)
The bedroom was really not pleasant. There are a lot of air fresheners and the beds here have no muggnet. It is very wet and that smell too. All the materials are oud: fans beepen enormously, kitchen is very worn out... ein bisschen vergane glorie. If you like a quiet atmosphere and weinig tot no social contact then you can find your way around here. But choose the best for a private room, which has a muggnet :)

Ein richtig tolles Hostel mitten im Dschungel. Wir konnten Brüllaffen ganz nah sehen.

Todo estuvo muy bien en el hostal. La habitación fue cómoda y el trato del personal, excelente. Cuentan con una cocina de fácil acceso que casi nunca está ocupada. En general, disfrutamos mucho nuestra estancia.
Everything was very good in the hostel. the room was comfortable and the treatment of the staff, excellent. they have a kitchen with easy access that is almost never occupied. overall, we enjoyed our stay very much.
Esperienza incredibile! L’atmosfera del Madre Selva è super, il proprietario disponibilissimo e le persone che ho conosciuto fantastiche :) stanze pulite, bagni puliti, tutto molto pulito. L’ostello è nel bel mezzo della giungla, ma a 15 minuti a piedi da supermercati e dalla spiaggia di Cocles. Ideale per chi vuole rilassarsi Senza rinunciare alla vicinanza con il centro del villaggio. Si può anche camminare fino a Puerto Viejo o prendere un uber o affittare delle bici. 100% raccomandato...
The atmosphere of Madre Selva is great, the owner is very available and the people I met are fantastic:) clean rooms, clean bathrooms, everything very clean. the hostel is in the middle of the jungle, but a 15-minute walk from the supermarkets and Cocles beach. ideal for those who want to relax without giving up the proximity to the center of the village. you can also walk to Puerto Viejo or take an uber or rent bikes. 100% recommended!
I love this hostel. There was no one else staying there but it was so peaceful. The staff was so helpful and I would definitely come back here.

Si el objetivo del hostel es hacerte sentir como en casa, este lugar sin duda lo logró con facilidad! 💘 Excelente el ambiente, el personal, el lugar en general y lo que ofrece, pase una semana y me senti super comoda, la cocina esta bien completa, el dormitorio siempre se mantiene limpio a pesar de la cantidad de gente, mismo baños, duchas y areas comunes. Pablo el dueño, un genio siempre dando una mano y ayudando a resolver lo que necesites. Mas que agradecida, y super recomiendo! ...
If the hostel's goal is to make you feel at home, this place certainly achieved it with ease! Excellent atmosphere, staff, the place in general and what it offers, spend a week and I feel super comfortable, the kitchen is well complete, the dormitory always stays clean despite the number of people, same bathrooms, showers and common areas. Pablo the owner, a genius always giving a hand and helping to solve what you need. But how grateful, and super recommend! 💖
I loved staying here. Very calm and relaxed atmosphere, nice people and colourfull surroundings 🌞 I saw a toucan, sloths and monkeys in the backyard

I had an amazing time at Madre Salva. The staff was very welcoming and helpful! My phone even had water dammage and they figured out how to help me get it working again. You are in the thick of the jungle so the noises at night are great! Great for the price and i definitely recommend.
Pablo was an incredible owner! He went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable. Loved the free coffee in the mornings and the chill, laid back vibe of the hostel. If you want to relax in nature and have a break from the over stimulation of bigger city hostels, this is the perfect spot. It’s a bit of a walk to the main road so just anticipate walking or renting a bike. I read a review saying that the dog was mean but that’s so untrue- she’s lovely.

espectacular experiencia en el madre selva, en el medio de la naturaleza con un ambiente agradable,con voluntarios super amables y muchos espacios para ocupar. volvería sin ningún tipo de duda

We had such a great time at this hostel. The volunteers are so kind and so fun, there are free bikes you can use to get around the town, and the overall atmosphere is just so relaxed. It is also located a bit off the main road so you can see the stars at night & be more in the nature of Cocles. 10/10 recommend!
READ IMPORTANT!! New management, new owner. I highly recommend visiting this place—Pablo, the owner, makes you feel right at home. The rooms are comfortable, safe, spacious, the kitchen is well-equipped, and they offer free coffee. The facilities are being renovated, and the cleanliness is noticeable throughout. Plus, the natural surroundings draw you in, with two friendly pets and plenty of open spaces to enjoy a getaway from the city and breathe fresh air. It's my favorite spot in Puerto Vie...
