California Dreams Hostel - Ocean Beach

I came to this hostel after staying in a downtown hostel and another hostel in OB, I was hoping the same quality and vibe here but I was wrong. This hostel is so boring and there is no good vibe. They have strict rules with no sense. There have not enough restrooms for all the guests and they look cheap and old. After two nights staying in here, I left because it was a depressing place to stay. The hostel is located in a residential area with no beach nearby.

I’m not going to lie.. this hostel wasn’t the best. Apart from being pricey and being far away from literally everything. There wasn’t anything to it.. the staff is practically the people staying in the hostel. There’s no activities or recommendations. There’s also false advertising they have a giant board with the things they have to rent one of them is skateboards which they didn’t have when I asked the staff member was confused by my question and the other staff member intervened ...

It's important to know that there's a line in the fine print that says your room(s) can be reassigned should the ones you booked "become unavailable." On arrival I was told they didn't know what happened to their reservation system, but my female dorm room was no longer available and that my options were to go in the mixed-dorm or pay $200+ for a private room. It was 1am so I took the mixed room and was awoken 3x by the man in the bunk below me ma****bating. Gross. No sleep. No refund/discount.

this place sucks. my first night there my iPhone was stolen while i was sleeping, ooked like a homeless man actually LIVING there. another guest hid in his bed all day behind the privacy curtains, occasionally peeping out through a space in yhe curtain. one staff member gave me incorrect directions to ttge UNMARKED shower (just ONE). 40 minute walk to the beach! NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION anywhere nearby after 6pm and only once an hour before

Staff n facilities were fine and helped out whenever but if your looking for a social hostel this ain’t it mostly over 30+ too which is fine but wasn’t what we was looking for

Immaculate and great staff.. ideal for tourists travelling together. Not great for a solo traveler and it's little while from anywhere. Best to have a car

The staff appears to live there as well and is very cliquey, not inclusive of other guests but also not subtle about it either. Definitely also encountered some strange characters as guests here as well, either they stayed there a long time or lived there. Vibe is weird. Also, the upstairs single bathroom lock needs to be fixed as I almost got stuck in there but thankfully was able to leave.

Staff were super friendly and informative. When I was there in June it wasn't super busy but still had a social vibe. Decent amenities (I didn't bother with the tiny pool or expensive hot tub, but the TV room and yoga mats were great for relaxing). Breakfast was decent, and there were a few good options for restaurants and groceries within walking distance. The hostel is in a residential area so it's quiet at night but still a reasonable walk into town or to the beaches.

I’ve stayed here before + really enjoyed myself. Centrally located, grocery store + plaza w restaurants around the corner. Staff was different + not as lively as my previous stay, which was a reason I wanted to come back, but aside from that, everything was great.

The employees here have been really kind to me! I didn’t feel out of place. Chill atmosphere. For the mature crowd! I do have to say, I don’t think the smoking policy need to be close to the facility due to keeping the windows open all the time, the smell did affect me while I was sleep. To be awaken by a Newport or weed in the wee hours of the night with asthma is not good. Also one of the showers is out of order in the bathroom and the middle shower has the hotter water in the ladies bathr...

it's pretty nice hostal however to close to the airport. Quite annoying listening the 🛫

All of the staff were amazing at what they were doing, super sweet made us feel very welcome to the place and even showed us around san diego! Yadi, Andrea, Pedro, Morgan, haha Mo, etc…eveyone definitely made me wanna come back, very fun to hang around with🫶🏼

Great stay here! The kitchen was phenomenal and had everything you needed to cook and array of meals. Everyone working at the Hostel were sweet and helpful. The people moving in the rooms can be noisy at times but that comes with the hostel life anywhere. There are many available games and activities to keep busy when not on the beach. The grocery store across the street has great quality products for good prices. I recommend!

Nice and friendly staff. Location felt safe and secure. Was more so a relaxed and older crowd which I loved. Will definitely be staying here again.

Great place great time

Cute property near OB! More driving distance than walking distance to things at least at night. Shared facilities were clean, hardly saw anyone else.

Felt like home. Everyone who worked here was so nice and helpful. I had a really great time!

The building and staff were great overall. However, we were told certain quiet hours weren't managed. I was woken up twice by doors closing and a woman on the last day yelling loudly. Additionally, we were given 1 twin sheet and 1 twin fleece for 2 people, and we had no control over the temperature, so I ended up freezing one of the nights. Either allowing access to the thermostat for a private room or additional blankets for more than one person would resolve that easily.

The staff were friendly and accommodating. I had a good stay and would recommend it. The fire alarm did cause problems, but it was stored out quickly.

I absolutely enjoyed my stay and was sad I didn’t get to stay longer. Will definitely be back and highly recommend. Felt safe as a single female traveling and extremely easy to Uber everywhere I needed to go. A lot in walking distance too :) AMAZING STAFF AND GUESTS

Room wash quiet, atmosphere pleasant (much nicer than other hostels I've visited in the USA(. Grocery store nearby. Please note this is not actually near the beach.

I loved my stay in OB! The staff was amazing and the environment was the best!

Alexis was amazingly helpful at a ruff time and place was cool it just felt more like a halfway house than a hostel

Stayed here a few times.Always feels like home.
