BCC Loch Ness Hostel

+ We have stayed here before in room two and it was pretty good not brilliant but ok, this time round we stayed in room eight the experience was very different, the beds were extremely uncomfortable with one slim pillow a slatted base thin mattress and wooden headboard, we were booked in for three nights and had also booked a one hour sail on Lochness for the Saturday 27/09/2025 at 2pm cost £40.00, on our first night Thursday 25/09/2025 we got to the room it was clean enough a large room with a decent sized bathroom/shower, this first night was pretty sleepless what with the lumpy mattress creaking slatted base and to round things off, we were treated to dim lighting and thankfully had brought a Torch with us, the main ceiling lighting bedroom and bathroom inexplicably went out at 6pm they did one back on at 1130pm so I had the pleasure of getting up and turning them off, On our second day Friday we bought pillows but decided against buying divan beds and mattresses, so we had Fish and chips instead, we were out for a very long time as going back to those beds was very unappealing the pillows eased the pain a little though, we got back around 7.45pm went inside pushed the light switch darkness, out came the torch got to the dim lamplight and turned them on they worked happy days, now we know it’s not a Hotel but I think the expectation of having working ceiling lights during the hours of darkness is not asking to much, we looked at each other and decided we were not hanging around for another night, so Saturday morning I cancelled the Lochness sail informed the cleaner the room would not be used on Saturday night as we were leaving forthwith, I really dislike leaving/ giving bad reviews but this is necessary and the Lights were still not in working order when we left at 1045am Saturday 27/09/2025.

- The Beds very uncomfortable, and the main lighting in the room cutting out

+ Absolument rien du tout. Ce que j’aime c’est que l’on se foutent pas de moi avec un appartement insalubre. Et que l’on ne m’arnaque pas.

- Tout. Aucun personnel présent, même la propreté n’est pas présente quand on parle de modération c’est pas pour la propreté. Cependant, en plus de magnifique vache écossaise, j’ai eu l’occasion de voir plein de mouton écossais sous mon lit. Le service client n’existe pas. Le service ménager non plus. On envoie des photos de l’état pitoyable de notre chambre et même avec cela personne n’est alarmé. Une honte cette établissement a est a évacuer au plus vite. Lit taché, matelas inconfort, propreté 0, porte de la douche sale, miroir également, chasse d’eau WC qui fuit, radiateur et mur taché et pas nettoyé.

+ Habitacion con muchas camas

- Se escucha a los vecinos hasta cuando se dan vuelta a la cama. En nuestro caso eran jovenes y estuvieron haciendo ruido hasta las 3am. A las 8-9 un señor se puso a cortar el césped y se escuchaba todo. No hay toallas para ducharse

+ L’emplacement

- Les matelas ne sont pas du tout confortables, j’ai eu une nuit horrible. Chambre très mal insonorisée, on entend les voisins parler comme s’ils étaient dans notre chambre. On a été averti le matin même qu’il n’y avait pas d’eau chaude !!

- I was informed that on that day the hostel will not have electricity and hot water. As these are essential facilities, I do not feel it is reasonable or comfortable to check in under such circumstances. When I was in Fort William, I called your hostel to confirm the situation. I was told that the entire Ness area had no electricity. For this reason, I asked whether I could cancel my booking and receive a refund so that I could arrange alternative accommodation in Fort William. However, I was told that I must still come to the hostel and that no refund would be given. I find this very unreasonable, as the basic services advertised cannot be provided.

+ Nothing to be honest

- The location is not the best as there is nothing to see around. The environment is horrible especially the room, we booked a four person room with a private bathroom, but we were so afraid to sleep on the bed because the bed sheet seems not changed and very dirty, and we had to sleep in our sleeping bag whole night, so if you are a clean person, I would not recommend this place.

- Nessuna risposta alla mail dove chiedevamo di metterci a disposizione degli asciugamani che ovviamente non ci hanno dato. Struttura davvero sporca letti scomodi e porta di ingresso con serratura rotta. Nessuna opportunità di comprare acqua caffè e qualsiasi tipo di cibo. Il primo supermercato a km di distanza insomma veramente d dimenticare

+ Die Lage und der kostenlose Parkplatz waren das einzig Gute an dieser Unterkunft.

- Das komplette Bad war voller Schimmel. Unterhalb des Waschbeckens war alles schimmelig. Die ganze Unterkunft hat dementsprechend gerochen und der Geruch hat sich in meine gesamte Kleidung festgesetzt. Unerträglich.

+ Eravamo in 5 persone e abbiamo scelto di soggiornare in questo ostello per la comodità della posizione. Il nostro incubo è iniziato dal giorno prima, quando siamo stati avvisati con una mail che non avremmo trovato asciugamani e accappatoi, quando non veniva indicato nulla tra i servizi a riguardo. Ma questo era solo il presagio di tutto. Avevamo una stanza con letto matrimoniale e una tripla per le altre tre persone. Appena arrivati, abbiamo trovato la stanza matrimoniale con la porta aperta, considerando che eravamo in aperto bosco, il che non era il massimo, con tutte le bestie che potevano accedere e usufruire della stanza prima di noi. Infatti mentre cercavamo di capire il perché del malfunzionamento della serratura, un bel topone ci è passato vicino. Ovviamente essendo in campagna ci sta, ma il pensiero che possa essere entrato a farsi un giro in stanza, nessuno ce lo ha tolto. Abbiamo riscontrato che la serratura era difettosa e solo a volte si riusciva a chiudere da dentro. Di questo abbiamo provato a informare il gestore della struttura che alla prima telefonata ci ha risposto. Ci ha detto che avrebbe provato a vedere se vi era un altra stanza libera e di richiamarlo dopo pochi minuti, ma poi si è reso di fatto irreperibile perché il telefono risultava staccato e un centralino ci diceva che il servizio non era disponibile. All’interno della stanza matrimoniale abbiamo trovato vespe morte, sudicio in generale. Il pezzo forte era sicuramente il bagno della stanza, dove qualcuno, poverino, ha dovuto evacuare “a spruzzo” imbrattando tutto il muro con schizzi marroni, che evidentemente nessuno si è degnato di pulire. Almeno questo è quello che sembrava. A riguardo, si allegano alcune foto. Il lampadario del bagno era un cimitero di insetti. Ne erano talmente tanti che tenere la luce spenta o accesa era quasi lo stesso, dato che coprivano tutto. L’altra stanza, la tripla, era molto sudicia in generale, ma non presentava gli orrori di quella matrimoniale.

- Kein Hotel, das war schon klar. Nicht die erste Reise und auch nicht die erste Übernachtung in einem Hostel. Kein Ansprechpartner vor Ort... Das Zimmer selbst hatte einen Duft --wahrgenommen als wäre vorher mit Schädlingsbekämpfungsmittel gearbeitet worden. Die Stühle auf der Terrasse schäbig und defekt. Der Bretterboden (Terrasse) in Kombination mit den Stühlen gefährlich, da die Fugen der Bretter breiter sind als die Stuhlbeine und somit reinrutschen. Storno war nicht möglich. So sind wir zum nächst besten gefahren und hatten uns dort etwas gebucht. Keine Empfehlung von meiner Seite

- Could do with a little TLC but this is reflected in the price

- La terrasse en bois pour les logements cinq et ultra glissante, partant de pluie, j’ai failli tomber

- Heating wasn't working, cold night. Pillows are wafer thin.

+ Camera indipendente molto spaziosa e parcheggio privato difronte. Cucina comune a disposizione

- La mancanza di asciugamani e l'impossibilità di chiederli neanche a pagamento. viaggiando in moto ed arrivando ghiacciato e bagnato mi sono trovato in difficoltà per la doccia. Pulizia inesistenze, polvere, ragni scarafaggi in camera ed un forte puzzo di muffe misto piedi sporchi. La cucina in comune era insufficiente per la mole di persone presenti

+ buena situación al lado de la carretera, tranquilo

- no había toallas, por lo visto es así en los hostales y este lo era. las camas hacían ruido con solo moverte un poco

+ Muy bien, hotel limpio, la atención de recepción de 10, camas cómodas

+ The staff responded to a request

- The mattress was a disgrace and dangerous due to exposed spring ends. No bedside tables. No bath mat. No bath soap. Dirty walls. There was a note in the kitchen advising a requirement to wash and return crockery and cooking appliances to kitchen cupboards however there was no dishwashing liquid available nor a tea towel nor any clean dishcloths. The fridge had dairy products in it that for all we knew could have been weeks old.

+ The place was ok bearing it is budget accommodation I would certainly return we enjoyed our stay I noted that on TripAdvisor reviews people really made it sound bad, that's not justified & unfair. It was warm , clean & had a massive shower and well equipped kitchen.

- I like to go into a local pub to chat with the people & maybe get some fish and chips. There was neither anywhere near the accomodation. But I would still recommend the place just take some burgers with you and cook them in the kitchen. 👍

+ Very pleasant location to stay.

- It was clear to us that it was a hostel, but if you feel even dirtier after your stay than when you arrived, that’s unacceptable. The rooms were dirty, the bed was uncomfortable and looked like it belonged in a prison, and there was no hot water. The toilet bowl was filthy and disgusting. On top of that, the room was freezing! Considering the price we paid, we should at least have been able to sleep in a clean and comfortable environment. This service should definitely be cheaper or neater.
