If you’re planning to stay in Sydney do not stay here. It is infested with cockroaches, the toilets are always full and dirty. The decor and beds are super outdated and dirty. Plus the manager speaks rudely to the guests… much better options elsewhere

Very bad airconditioning, cracks visibility, questionable water - Copper toxicity possible due to the historical legacy of different shareholders of extraction companies, friendly personnel and hazards linked to road proximity. Not recommended. Be careful.

Overall alright hostel with friendly staff but FULL of cockroaches! They were all over my stuff and in my bed!!!

I wouldn’t come back lockers provided majority do not work or all are taken up by people living in the hostel you feel like your intruding on people constantly rooms are hot and fans do nothing, everything felt dirty ants in the toilets the only up side is a convinient location

Quirky building & people but grumpy staff who didn’t explain check in rules for multiple people properly. Got told off by the manager for an issue that wasn’t explained to us, should be mad at your staff for not being capable of cleaning rooms properly. Toilet and shower portaloo block stank like ass. Cockroaches everywhere, a bag of ours was full of them after we came back one evening. After speaking to staff about this, we were told they ‘sterilised’ the room only to have one crawl up ...

Honestly one of the worst hostels I stayed in Australia. The room is tiny, hot as a furnace, the only fan sounds like a jet engine and keeps turning towards the wall. There were cockroaches on the beds and all over the carpet, bunks are also wobbly af. Toilets are dirty and not enough for the amount of guests. Couldn’t stay more than a night. Very run down place, it was the closest I felt of being in a jail, not cozy at all. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The only positive is the location

Yeah save your money. There’s black mold all over the walls and I got really sick from it. Also I saw so many cockroaches in the kitchen. Straight up the worst hostel I’ve stayed at. I don’t know how they’re even legally operating if we’re being 100 #secretgardensucks #ihatesecretgarden #secretgardenblackmold

Not much space in the rooms, neither in the bathrooms. Upstairs there were also no mirrors or space to change. Also there is no lift, so if you are coming with lots of luggage you have to carry it up the all the way. Was not feeling safe in there, even though the staff was really friendly and the open space seemed to be as expected.

okau..but a bad area with lots of homeless/ druggies around. Hostel room had lots of long stay guests and no room to put anything. Barely any showers/ toilets. Hostel was like a maze and no signs pointing to toilets etc. gNo guests spoke to me.

Only stayed for one night, but it was everything I needed. A great team, and the hostel had all the necessary facilities, luggage storage, etc.

Staff very friendly, lovely chilled back garden, great kitchen/food storage system, comfy beds, ideal location for trans and buses in and out of the city. Staff very responsive when I pointed a couple of bathroom issues with soap all over the floor.

I stayed here with my boyfriend and we had a lovely time, everyday there’s something going on starting from activities to pancakes and BBQ! Made a lot of friends, the atmosphere in this hostel is so genuine you won’t believe it. And a special thanks to Max the manager and the staff who were so helpful and caring as soon as we got there. Book here you won’t regret it! I’m definitely coming back! See you soon!

has a really nice stay in sydney- already tried so many hostels in sydney and this was my fave. really friendly personnel !!! like the atmosphere very much, also offered nice activities to join and to connect with people. hostel was located near central station- it was good for me bc i had to leave to another city the next day :)

Very negative experience. Our two-week stay at this hostel was extremely disappointing. There were cockroaches, which is unacceptable. Worse still, the managers constantly invaded our privacy—entering our room daily, going through our belongings, taking things, and always finding something to complain about, even making threats. We never felt comfortable or safe. We do not recommend this place.

Facilities are average but great vibes and it's one of the most social hostel have been !

We planned to stay at Secret Garden Hostel for only 1 night but ended up staying 3! The hostel is very well located, close to central station and with lots of nice cafes a few minutes walk away. There is a lively and social phere with events organised everyday. The kitchen is well equipped and clean. Rooms and bedding are clean and comfortable. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful with any issues. We will definitely come back next time we are in Sydney, thank you for a great stay ...

I loved the hostel! It has a big garden, which isn't usual in most hostels in the city, so you can relax and share with other travelers. You have a lovely park just a couple of meters away, and it's within walking distance of Central Station, which is super useful. The staff are really kind, always ready to help you, and they are cleaning all the time. They also host little activities each day so you can meet people or explore more of Sydney with company. Very clean, spacious hostel. The place was very social and the staff were super friendly. They have a great outside area where they host events everyday and is great to meet people.

I originally planned for two weeks, but I just couldn't leave. I stayed another 3 days and they were just as amazing as the rest. The garden is still the best spot to hang out and the people here are like family now. If you're coming for a few days, be prepared—you'll probably end up staying longer too!

I stayed in a rather messy room that was hot with little ventilation. The dish soap was very diluted, which isn't ideal for travelers expecting a bit of hygiene. There was very little quiet space. However, the staff was very friendly.
