Dougies Backpackers Resort

Stayed here for two nights. Both nights people came in late and left early before reception opened. They made their beds so reception didn’t know they were used. When I asked reception about it, the girl literally said “let’s call it a dream” as if I was dreaming. My clothing and towel that I had in the room were stolen as well. I then watched them rent the bed out a guy who is certainly going to be sleeping in someone else’s filth. Would never recommend this place.

Our one night in Dougies was so horrendous we had to cancel the second night. No wifi working; and even if it was you have to pay for it, staff told us it has been off for days. Ants/termites infested in our room and night staff were unable to assist and directed us to speak to the manager the next morning - staff also informed us apparently “i have these in my room too”. Safe key did not work in my safe but I was able to open someone else’s with it. Loud noises all night and our roommate ...

While the facilities were fine such as the kitchen and showers, the environment at this hostel isn’t a particularly comforting one and I wouldn’t recommend to a friend. There are lots of drifters and long-term stayers who are quite loud and never sober, giving the place an unsettling atmosphere for everyone else. Also the drifter in room was adamant the AC was going to kill us and would wait until we’d fallen asleep and then turn it off, meaning sleeping was difficult and uncomfortable.

While the staff was very nice, the property itself was rather disappointing. The rooms were very dark and not very clean, and the mattress was very saggy.

did not like this place at all. I felt it was dirty and long needed some TLC. My room was vile and infested with cockroaches and spiders. it was very dark, tiny and I peeped under the bed once and was glad I chose the top bunk. They also had the nerve to charge daily for WiFi. absolutely will not go back again. I also think virtually everyone smoked and did it most places. also think that there were a lot of permanent residencies

Way more of a party hostel than expected. I stayed in a private room but the party on Monday night kept me up until past 1am - the private room was right next door to where it was. Given that all the tours in the area start super early, this was not a great experience. Cleanliness was below average. There was a smell - maybe to be expected from a sweaty climate but wow the stench especially from the other rooms permeated the place. When I pulled the sheets, I could smell something untoward too

The downside is that there are lots of long term residents and I was put in a room with 3 long term females. The room was an absolute tip, they never locked it and there were many ants. They weren't the friendliest to me as a short term stayer and I think even used my bed as a sofa moving my own belongings which I had to recover from their mess.

Location out of city center, facilities fine but hostelroom felt like a prison room lol. Very dark. Loads of red ants everywhere, found them in my bags until weeks after. Overall chill and laid-back vibe, kitchen was huge and there's a bar. Bathrooms were fine.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at this hostel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to book our transfer and answer all our questions. We would definitely revisit one of our favourite hostels we’ve ever stayed in.

Spacious rooms with lockable cupboards. Nice communal areas with a pool and bar. Kitchen can get quite busy and wasn’t that clean, same with the bathrooms. Locations is really nice, just out of town so helps to have a car and they have free parking which is great! Overall good hostel and would stay again!

Great, nothing to complain about. I had a private room with my partner and we were very happy. Simply and friendly hostel. Clean and good showers. And cheap beer ! Loved it.

Ingesamt in Ordnung, Sauberkeit lässt aber zu wünschen übrig. Herrentoiletten werden selten bzw. nicht gründlich gereinigt, Küche nicht sehr sauber und die Schwämme sehen so aus als wären sie seit 4 Wochen im Einsatz. In den Mehrbettzimmern lassen sich nur kleine Fächer in den Schränken abschließen, der Schlüssel dazu passt aber in alle Fächer des Zimmers - Sicherheit gleich Null. Das Personal ist freundlich und die Bar ist gut. Ich würde aber trotzdem nicht wiederkommen.

We loved our stay at dougies! Amazing outer area, and then 10/10 staff people. So nice and welcoming and extremely helpful

Great hostel spent Christmas there in a private room, good kitchen facilities, friendly staff and only a short walk to the main town

Great location. Staff were nice. Kitchen was dirty, needed to pay $2/day for wifi and the wifi was not working my first 2 days there. The locker in my room also had no working key for it so I was told “too bad” for not being able to lock my items. Staff were really nice and obviously felt bad about the locker and the there were electric ants in the hostel and rooms (tiny red biting/stinging ants) as I got multiple bites from these little red ants.

My FAVOURITE hostel in Australia! This hostel has an awesome vibe, movie nights, open mic, DJs, there’s always something to get involved with, great kitchen, comfy spots to hang or hideaway in a hammock. You can grab an e-scooter into town or it’s just a short walk! Living the Australian dream here!🇦🇺🐨😎

Honestly one of the coolest hostels i’ve ever been to. felt like i was on a tropical getaway! the atmosphere was great, and the bar/ kitchen area was very cool. loved the whole experience and the staff where so helpful and kind.

Great hostel, easy walk to the beach and town. Staff were lovely!
