- As a disabled person (not a wheelchair user), I had a very negative experience regarding accessibility that I feel is important to share. I inquired about access to the disabled toilet, which had been locked throughout my stay. When I asked staff why, I was told I could use the other toilets, even though accessible toilets are designed for specific, valid needs either visible or not. I was then asked to justify what kind of emergency I might have in order to need the facility, which was invasive and inappropriate. At this point I was definitely getting frustrated, yet I explained as calmly as possible that not all disabilities are visible and that access should not require permission/explanation. The situation escalated unnecessarily, as the staff member told me that then I should not stay in hostels, clearly implying my special needs are a burden to the facility. He then suggested I should book a hotel with private bathroom instead. He also stated he was now angry because he worked at Uppsala City Hostel a long time and I was the first person saying this to him. I feel he missed the point, getting defensive and taking my request for accessibility as a personal attack. This interaction was hurtful, discriminatory, and made me feel very unsafe. Other noteworthy accessibility points are: room doors are very heavy and difficult to open without both hands. Most toilets and showers are narrow, with steps to enter. The more spacious shower (excluding the disabled toilet) is only on the lower floor. There are hooks for clothes, but very few shelves at an accessible height.

The room was extremely stuffy; no air con, no fan and the windows opened on to a main road where there was a night club blaring out music until 3am. We all had an awful night, prior to an early start for our flight home to the UK. For what I paid, the experience was dreadful.

The atmosphere was really strange. during my 3 night stay there were just 4 other guests on total stying there. if you are looking for a social hostel, also with organized events you can join, definitely don’t come here. the bathroom was nice and clean. the kitchen was okay. but there was a strange woman in my dorm (i feel like she was homeless). the best part about the hostel is definitely that it is right in the middle of the city. in my opinion too expensive for what you get.
good for sleeping, no socialising!
The host was very kind and helpful. You can’t always control the kinds of people that stay there, but consistently having a host on your side and able to help goes a long way. Ended up staying 6 night and would definitely stay again.
War ein super Hostel, sehr sauber und Privatsphäre (Einzelzimmer) Eigener Kühlschrank im Zimmer (glaube nicht in jedem) und eine voll ausgestattete, top funktionierende Küche Lage in der Innenstadt ist auch perfekt, man kommt basically überall zu Fuß hin

+ Location, in the city centre. Very clean bathrooms and rooms, easy to find. I had the dorm to myself, the whole place was almost empty so it was very quie and I had a great sleep
- Very unwelcoming, impersonal, depressing, it feels like they're doing you a favour to let you stay. For the super expensive price they won't give you a towel, no tea/coffee or even a gram of sugar in the kitchen. No heating in my room, so cold. Would never stay again

+ always clean bathroom & well equipped kitchen & I could come even late in night off the opening hours of reception (communication was very clear with the hostel stuff)
+ Easy check in, good location and clean. There isn't anything fancy about this hostel but it is perfect for an overnight stay if all you require is a bed and a shower.
