Extremely difficult to get to without a vehicle, shower facilities were extremely wet and dirty, did not see much of staff and there was not really a hostel feel.
This hostel is quite small and comfortable. It is not located in the most central part of the island, so that has pros and cons. Overall, the people were really nice with the social spaces were small so socializing wasn't the easiest. Staff were lovely, and the room was clean but super tiny. I enjoyed Waiheke a ton and would definitely come back again to this hostel if gotten the chance.
Stayed in a 2 bed dorm which just had enough space to open up your case. The room itself was very warm and we had the windows open with fan on full blast overnight and were still uncomfortable; this also let in heaps of mosquitoes. Hostel need to get bug screens. Mattresses were super thin and uncomfortable - you could feel the metal frame beneath you. Staff very friendly and helpful but on call staff member talking loudly directly outside our room at 1am when another guest locked themself out.
There were a lot of people who were staying long-term and they had formed a really annoying clique. People did not respect quiet hours and the person I was rooming with never locked the door when they left. Very frustrating but the facilities were acceptable.
Für den Preis könnte man mehr erwarten, aber sonst ein gutes Hostel
2 bed dorm was tiny ! And the window mozzy net was a bit grim / not functional, kitchen was nice and outdoor space is beautiful, showers are incredible!! Nice to be in Onetangi too and the stairs from the beach/bus stop are killer
Amazing views. Lovely location. There is a grocery about a 15 min walk away but wise to bring food. Not many backpacking options on the island so met my needs. However, you should note: No bike hire avail. Bus transport east but you REQUIRE a HOP pass. Staff shortages mean few reception hrs and Basically every sink was clogged meaning sinks and showers weren’t super clean.
Absolutely lovely staff! Diego and the other lady I met (sorry I didn’t get your name) were super helpful and just so nice to chat with. Decent location but be prepared for the stairs…bit of a hike but it’s only a few minutes and the views are wonderful. Hostel itself is sorta bare bones, old buildings but it’s got what you need and was clean! Would definitely come back and I recommend staying here if you’re looking for affordable accommodation on Waiheke
Meh I have no idea how they could have such a high rating. Def a below average hostel overall, tons of mosquitos, no screens on windows, pretty noisy doors and you have to talk up a ton of stairs. I also really like 1 of the staff (the Argentinian dude) but found the others a bit invasive or something

Was a beautiful experience with an amazing staff ! The view is really really nice from the morning till the sunset. A chill place for everyone who wants to rest !
Once you get to the end of the 50A bus route, the breaking waves of Onetangi beach make you feel on holiday. There's stairs up to the hostel, but the road up the hill is easier, and you can stop to look out to sea. We visited Waiheke on a sunny weekend and appreciated the welcoming staff, and that we didn't need to pay much to have a safe. private space to shower, and then sleep. With its simplicity, this hostel respects all the natural wonders of Waiheke.
Cannot recommend this hostel enough!!! I stayed here as a solo traveler for my overnight trip to Waiheke and loved it. They have a lovely front yard with comfy bean bag chairs, hammocks, and tables, and the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. They’re located right along the ocean, so I was able to walk right to the beach and catch the sunset. They’re also located right off of a bus stop, so you can easily catch the bus from the ferry port and take it straight to the hostel. Everyone who sta...
I loved my stay here! The hostel staff were so friendly and welcoming, I felt at home during my 3 days there. The location is stunning with view of the sea, and only a short walk to the beach! The rooms, bathrooms and kitchen were functional and clean. Very chilled vibe, not a social hostel but perfect for a relaxing stay, would recommend!
Such a lovely location!! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Really nice hostel, I would stay again.
Amazing!!
Get AC & bug nets
Amazing local, so clean, lovely staff and atmosphere.
Waiheke Backpackers is amazing! My son and I really enjoyed staying there. The location is fab, staff both helpful and friendly, and the facilities are clean and perfectly set up. We'll be back for sure!
I have stayed now a few times and it’s easily one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at! Beautiful location next to the beach (worth the hill and stairs), handy to the bus and ferry. The showers and kitchen facilities are honestly hands down the best you’ll get in NZ or AUS hostels. Bunk rooms are small but clean and neat, the only thing I’d say is they need better blinds in there. But the staff are really what make it, so helpful and kind, they always go above and beyond for the gu...
I really enjoyed this hostel! The staff was friendly, the property was clean, and I met a lot of cool people. It was everything I needed it to be, considering I planned to spend most of my time on the beach and just needed a bed at night. I liked that there were private showers/restrooms. If you plan to keep your bedroom window open during the day to cool down the room, definitely buy bug spray for night time and you’ll be golden! Super close to beach- and the stairs are a good daily workout
Great hostel and super welcoming. Really relaxed and lovely location
Manager Diego incredible . Amazing human be ! And all staff very nice

Great place - great view. We loved that they had a BBQ free to use. And the staff were so friendly and welcoming.
Amazing staff, facilities, and location! Kitchen was easy to use, rooms/bathroom were clean. Laundry was easy! Manageable to walk up the hill for the view with a suitcase and backpack to the hostel via the 50A bus.
The hostel has such a great view.
