Tropicana Hostel

They charged me $50 for a no show fee for the second night and stopped responding to me after I called them out. I have a charge in my card from them the day k checked out for laundry I did thru them because I actually stayed the two nights. Unbelievable.

The beds in the dorm were so close together, my feet were touching the head of the person in front of me, many times over the night! Not cool! Also, my skin started hitching in the night (2nd reason that kept me up). I am not allergic to any bed material, so I guess they were bed bugs or similar :( Dorm was in front of the bar (they did say while booking), but the bar didnt close at 10 pm like expected, but at 10:30, so until that time it was very loud. Atmosphere was really US freshmen college...

BEDBUGS!!!! this place needs to be fumigated, I know multiple people who got bedbugs from here unfortunately. also not much of a party vibe beyond the staff trying to pressure you into buying a ticket for the antigua bar crawl

My shoes were stolen at this hostel. Until I wrote a negative review they didn't care to look a cctv. Then the response was meh. There's no locks on the dorms so anyone from the bar can access the rooms.

Decent hostel but really lacks on the social vibe they are advertised for. Awesome bar area for watching football or whatever is on but not a lot of people around. Also they charge a ridiculously higher price for a shared airport shuttle from Antigua to Guatemala city vs Somos hostel (250 Q vs 95Q). Booking the Acetenango volcano hike through them was a good price and an awesome experience!

Wouldn’t recommend. No hot water and no curtains or blinds in private room, plus nowhere to store bags in dorms. Rented clothes and hiking boots for the Fuego hike, boots weren’t my size and we were overcharged when returning items, so take photos of rentals. Charged an extra 100Q for the Fuego hike because we paid the next day, without being told cash was required. Staff also asked for a positive review in exchange for money.

If you're planning on doing any hiking while in Antigua, do not stay here. They say the bar closes at 10, but then the staff turn all the lights on and drink and flirt with each other until for an untold amount of time. They don't have enough bathrooms and showers for everyone so there is always a wait. They also do not provide topsheets, and it's often too hot for a blanket, and I woke up covered in mosquito bites.

No security : no common locker, personal locker in bed is broken + plugs are inside so if you want to charge while sleeping with your phone your locker have to stay open. Blanket smells bad. If someone wants to enter after 10pm, they need to ring the bell : so everyone can hear it, all night long. Reception isn’t very clear in their information. I love to stay in hostels, but this one was a really bad experience.

El hostel està molt ben situat però hi ha molt de soroll, música tota l’estona i a tots els establiments que impedeix estar tranquil. Pocs WC i dutxes per la gent que hi ha i les instal•lacions podrien estar molt més netes.

Pretty sure they have bedbugs, I woke up in the middle of the night with three bug bites, thinking it was mosquitos but then sat there for an hour and suddenly more and more popped up. Same pattern as bedbugs. Bathrooms were very budget hostel bathrooms which is fine if that’s your vibe but had no where to set even your items unless on the ground of the shower. Just felt so gross after the bug incident.

Great social hostel well located in Antigua, and also organise a great Acatenango tour

Had a great time at Tropicana! Staff were friendly, location was amazing, and beds were very comfy. Much quieter at night than you’d think for being a younger hostel, I never had issues sleeping.

nice localisation, clean hostel, with really good food and drinks. a nice really small pool. it finishes at 11 pm, so not a party hostel and not that social. the only thing I didn't like is at there are 2 buildings, and I was placed in the other building where there was no pool & rooftop. so you need to walk to the other building everyday, it's on the corner tho. but it would be nice if the two building connects, because now u were just like u were not port of the hostel.

Tropicana was great, we did the Fuego hike with them and then stayed with them a few days after. It’s a big property with two buildings, great social environment. Pamela was great with recs and helping us with stuff through our stay.

We loved staying at Tropicana! The atmosphere was amazing and booking with the company for the volcano hike was definitely the best option.

Schönes, sauberes Hostel. Grosszügiger community Bereich wo man schnell Leute kennen lernen kann.

The staff is incredible ❤️ I felt safe the whole time. It's also very close from everything.
