+ Nothing, everything was dirty

- I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction and frustration regarding the service we received during our stay. From the moment we arrived, we experienced significant difficulties. The receptionist on duty seemed poorly informed and unable to provide proper assistance. We explained clearly that I am pregnant and respectfully asked whether it would be possible to have a room with a bed downstairs instead of upstairs, as using the upstairs bed was not safe or practical for me. Her response was a firm and dismissive "no," without any willingness to explore alternatives or offer a solution. Due to the lack of support and understanding, we felt we had no choice but to look for alternative accommodation that could meet our needs. The following day, another receptionist was much more helpful and showed willingness to assist us; however, by that point it was already too late as we had made other arrangements. Despite explaining the situation and the inconvenience we experienced, we were still required to pay for two nights even though we only stayed for one night. Furthermore, we were asked to leave immediately, which made us feel that the priority was simply to make the room available again rather than to treat us fairly as paying guests. It is very disappointing that no consideration was given to my pregnancy or to the reasonable request we made from the beginning. This situation caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience, and we believe the way this matter was handled was unfair and unprofessional. For these reasons, we respectfully request a review of our case and appropriate compensation or a refund for the unused night. We hope this matter can be resolved promptly.

- אף פעם לא דירגתי מקום לינה כל כך נמוך, אבל זה ההוסטל הכי גרוע שהייתי בו בטיול. במסגרת טיול ארוך הגענו לשבוע לסידני, להוסטל הזה. קודם כל מים חמים במקלחת לא מובטחים, לפעמים יש לפעמים אין. דבר שני בכל קומה של 5 חדרים, יש רק תא שירותים אחד, ו2 תאי מקלחת. כמה אנשים התא הזה משרת? רק בחדר שלנו היו 14 אנשים. בנוסף, בתאי המקלחת הרצפה כהה והמחיצה בין התאים לא יורדת עד הרצפה. מה שיוצר מראה על הרצפה, ואתה רואה לפרטי פרטים את האדם שמתקלח בתא השני. ולחלק הנורא ביותר - בחדר שהזמנו כתוב בפירוש שיש מיזוג אוויר. בפועל, אין מיזוג אווויר. על הקיר תלוי מזגן, אבל הוא לא עובד. זה חדר של 14 אנשים, אבל עם זה לא הייתה לנו בעיה. את זה הזמנו ועם זה היינו מוכנים להתמודד. אבל הדבר הכי גרוע שיכול להיות בחדר כזה עמוס ומבולגן, זה חום בלתי נסבל. להזיע לתוך הסדינים כשאתה בחדר כל כך כאוטי הפך כל לילה לעינוי. ירדתי לקבלה לדבר עם העובדת. ופה זה כבר נהיה מתסכל. הסברתי לעובדת את הסיטואציה. היא טענה שאין לה מה לעשות ושהיא מצטערת אבל אי אפשר לעבור לחדר ממוזג, אי אפשר לעבור לסניף אחר, אי אפשר להחזיר את הכסף, היא יכולה לדבר עם המנהל אבל גם הוא לא יעשה כלום. אחרי שיחה מתסכלת היא אמרה שזה רק לילה אחד, מחר יגיע טכנאי למזגן, ובינתיים יש מאוורר שאפשר לקחת ולהשתמש בו. החלטתי להקשיב לה, ולהעביר את הלילה הזה. המאוורר עשה רק רעש ולא באמת קירר חדר כזה. למחרת, ובכל שאר השבוע ששהינו שם, לא הגיע טכנאי. המיזוג לא עבד, וכל לילה מחדש ישנו מזעזע בגלל החום. זה הרס לנו מחדש את כל יום הטיול שלמחרת. אתה מטייל עייף, עצבני ומבואס, בידיעה שגם הלילה הבא הולך להיות נורא. בשורה התחתונה, למקום לינה יש השפעה רצינית מאוד על החוויה שלכם ביעד. ההוסטל הזה הוא מה שהרס לנו את סידני. מצטער ומתחרט שסגרתי פה את הלינה שלנו. מקווה בשבילכם שתדלגו על המקום הזה.

- When you only find out little things but important once you finish booking it e,g only accepting physical passport upon checking in. Australian I.D is not acceptable.

- The cupboards were full of maggots and dirty stained laundry. The bedsheets and the bed frame haven’t been cleaned in decades. Unwelcoming disrespectful roommates. Safety concerns because of other roommates walking with hazardous and flammable materials.

+ Absolute dump and expensive for what it was

- Awful bed, stinking and hot room

- I had some issues with one staff. The manager said that he would check the video camera and give me a feedback but I haven’t received any after 5 days. If you have checked the video camera, I have some questions: I had an orange juice bottle on the ground just to lift up the adapter (because the adapter is heavy and the socket is loose). It’s so obvious that anyone would see there is a Macbook’s big white adapter with cable linked to my laptop. However, she(the stuff) just took the bottle away, without asking, without noticing anything on it, having my adapter fell on the ground, not broken but got scratches and cracks on the surface. Question1: Is it the right way how people should work, mindlessly? Do you define this rude in your culture? (I don’t think so, I just think it’s mindless) Question2: Can I ask for a compensation? She asked me to move to the nearby table because she wanted to clean this area. i asked can i sit here because the cable is vulnerable and we talked a few more sentences like i said “is it an order or enquiry? if enquiry, i prefer not”, “i can clean this area for you, i don’t want to disturb your work but the cable is vulnerable” and etc. Question3: Is there a rule that guests should leave while cleaning? (if you have the rule, I apologize) Question4: Did I say any offensive bad word? If I didn’t, why she said I’m rude? Question5: Am i rude just by discussing with her if there’s another way we can get things done instead of just silently following what she instructed me? (if in your culture to discuss or to argue about a thing is defined as rude, then I apologize) Question6: There are many ways to get the work done like I can lift my feet while she mop the place I sit and is it not acceptable in your opinion? I swept and mopped the floor myself and I really put efforts in it not just “face job”. Question7: Did I lie? If I didn’t, why your stuff lied that that I disturb her job and left the place uncleaned?

+ great staff! the day staff were lovely but the night staff never spoke it’s cheap and available

- bit of a crack den vibe the people staying there are insufferable - loud in the early hours and messy only one toilet and two showers per floor?? how’s 40+ people meant to share a single toilet probs get more sleep if i slept outside

+ Really nice and friendly staff, the room was very clean. The bed was so comfy.

+ I had such a lovely stay at this hostel! I stayed in the women’s room, which was spotless and had its own bathroom. Tess at reception was absolutely wonderful, so kind and incredibly helpful, and the rest of the team were just as friendly and welcoming. The location is also very good, really close to everything, which made getting around super easy.

+ Mad Monkey Kings Cross is both affordable and leaves you with easy access to a lot the area has to offer. Free events every night that is going to result in free food or free drinks, sometimes both. Social atmosphere and very easy to meet new friends here.

- Nothing

+ I really liked the atmosphere of this hostel! A great mix of people who were all really keen to socialise without it seeming like too much! I noticed that the rooms were cleaned daily in my stay, which I think is great especially in some of the bigger rooms. The staff were always really friendly when I had questions about things to do in the area! The free events with food and drinks throughout the week are also great when travelling on the budget!

- My room was upstairs, but at least then you don’t get much noise from the street

+ Fun time, big tv, Xbox nice

- Rooms could get very hot and little AC and if you work in the city then you need a bus which is a walk

+ Most of the staff were really friendly.

- The mattress I was sleeping in, I could feel the wires on my body. I woke up feeling so sore and tired that I had to miss out on some activities. When I mentioned this to the receptionist, she said they were changing some mattresses but that weekend was extremely busy so they couldn't change all. I wasn't offered anything from this, would have been a good customer service to receive some kind of refund at least for that night. I fixed this issue myself, moving to another bed when my friend left the hostel. Additionally, the power plug didn't work. I reported this tp reception and the response was because it was the weekend, probably they wouldn't be able to get anyone to fix it. There wasn't a solution to this issue from them either, like a extension cord. I was lucky I took my 3m USB C cable to charge my phone and I plugged it on my friends wall plug. The hostel doesn't have a proper "meeting" space. The kitchen is very small and the TV room gets shut after 10pm. So not much opportunity to make friends.

+ I liked pretty much everything. It was the total opposite of my stay at Mad Monkey Broadway. It was clean all the time, most of the staff were friendly, it was lively and had quiet moments, the location is great, I slept well most nights and the lockers under the beds are the best place for lockers in my opinion.

- The only thing I could suggest is having more fridge space. That seems to be a common issue in Mad Monkey hostels. This part is down to individuals who stay at hostels, but please please stop spraying aerosols in the dorm room! Don't be so selfish.

+ Very close proximity to Kingcross Train station and the Merto Woolworth’s. I also valued the safety measures taken in terms of the locks on doors to the main building and to the rooms it self

- I shared an 8 dorm room, didn’t mind this as all except for the shower room, it didn’t have like a curtain or something around the tub so water would be getting all over the floor and making the floor mat very soggy and wet

+ Good location, friendly staff and many activities to do during the week.

- There’s no lift.
