Hakuna Matata Plovdiv

I arrived at hostel, however no one available to book me in, I phoned contact number provide at front door 12:03 and the message was that the mobile was switched off, I made several call over the next two hours, I finally received call back from them at 16:45, along with another guest we had arrange some where else to stay. I returned call to hostel at 17:44 stay that cancelled.

Bed bugs in beds, no security, showers and toilets gross. Beds hard as rock and no privacy.

The staff was really nice, but the hostel is infested with bed bugs. We woke up with bites and found some live bed bugs in the kitchen and in the dorm rooms. The staff did issue a refund immediately, which we appreciated.

I must say that I am quite disappointed with the hostel. Yes, the location is good, but there were several issues during my stay. First of all there was no toilet paper in the toilet. Secondly, there was dancing troop that danced up until 2 in the morning. Thirdly, some staff members dashed into my room drunk at 5 am and woke me up. This was quite an unpleasant stay.

Ubicación muy buena. El personal habla poco inglés, intentan ayudarte pero tampoco es que te ayuden demasiado. Tuvimos mala suerte y se fue la luz casi un día entero. Sin calefacción, sin ducha caliente, sin desayuno caliente... Y tampoco parecía importarles demasiado. En general están bastante abandonados los baños y las cosas comunes. Limpieza... malamente.

I stayed here a few months ago, I was MOVED to another hostel as they were doing ‘renovations’ walked past later that night and there seemed to be an event on. Had to plan my day around getting to the other hostel. I was moved to a hostel with 12+ beds when I paid for a 6 person dorm Owners were strange, towels were wet and overall a bad experience

Hostel was quite odd, intense staff, they got confused with our rooms and we had to change room, a man kept eating eggs in our room and told us there was mice

The people there were nice but! My main problem was bed bugs! Next day (thankfully i stayed just one night because the weather was bad in plovdiv) i noticed i had bite makes from bed bugs on my arms and legs. Another issue i had was pictures not matching the reality- i chode this place because in the pictures u can see little curtains around beds but it wasnt in my room or others ive seen there also i booked a 6person room which looked bigger but was in a 4 person small one

I didn't really liked my stay here. The Hostel was not really clean & there where no "real" showers, just a shower head which got water from the sink. Also my bed was barely holding together & when I moved even a little bit it squeked like crazy. We also wanted to use the the grill on the rooftop but it was super disgusting, full of grease & was probably lasted cleaned six month ago. Took me 45 minutes to clean. There was also no electricity on the rooftop & the lights in the staircase didnt wo...

no atmosphere and gross bathroom with barely a real shower, as all water drains into the center of the bathroom. clean bed. staff were drinking in the middle of the day. but good location in the city. would recommend for 1 night.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hakuna Matata. It is a simple hostel, but in the best way. Nothing too fancy, nothing unnecessary — just a warm, relaxed place with good people and a nice atmosphere. It reminded me of the old hostel days, when the most important thing was the feeling, not the luxury. The rooftop was my favorite part. Bathroom locks did not work, and the locks otherwise didn't seem that reliable. Few times I found the only doors with locks to be open. Bathroom was occasionally covered in water and rooms occasionally had a strange smell.

Very nice hostel close to the city center, welcoming staff that shared a lot of tips to make my stay more enjoyable!

Estaba bien ubicado y Hugo es muy majo. No estaba tan limpio pero bueno. Es un lugar de calidad para quedarse algunos días en Plovdiv

Great place to stay in Plovdiv. The host is amazing. Felt very homely

Great hostel. Great staff running the place. Lovely people staying whilst I was there. Beds comfortable, lockers available, plenty of space in the room. Bathroom adequate but the shower is just a little awkward. Rooftop- beautiful! Location- perfect, easy walk to anywhere in town. I was only there for 1 night but I could easily stay longer. Didn't use the kitchen but it looked well set up. Would definitely recommend.

Sick place, loved it

They have kind and welcoming staff. There's only one bathroom upstairs, but there are three on the second floor, so I didn't have a problem with waiting for the shower. The 4th floor rooftop terrace is the PLACE to be for the sunset! 10/10!

Great location and value for money! Breakfast is included, the staff is friendly and helpful. Summer in Plovdiv is hot but in the late afternoon the top floor open roof terrace is a lovely place to be.

Great location, nice enough dorms. Was very quiet when we went and we were the only ones in the dorm but has a nice social space for busier times. Lovely staff.

The hostel in itself has great facilities : the roof terrace with the bar is great, the kitchen is big and so is the common area. But it feels like the place has been abandoned. The bar is not in use, there are no forks in the kitchen (not even one), the staff is nowhere to be seen half of the time, there are no lockers . When I arrived at 10pm the front door was open with no staff in sight. I had a good time because of the people I met there, not so much because of the place itself.

I met some nice people here and breakfast was really good! However the cleanliness of this place leaves much to be desired. We were allowed to use the kitchen but there’s nearly no supplies. At some point we opened the oven and there was a pot with just mold in it.

Great staff, clean place, perfect location. Would very much suggest staying here. Breakfast is not much but still a nice perk. Definitely a good stay and worth the visit- Plovdiv is amazing.

I would have liked to have rate this hostel higher but there are undeniable issues. 1. No security in the night time - no person on the reception desk, door in, is open and no locks on the bedroom doors. 2. Breakfast is a deep fried batter, apples soft& oranges cut the day before. 3. Only 2 normal teacups, no small plates, no pots or cutlery ..and anything that was there I had to wash as it was dirty. 4. Sheets v poor/dirty/ripped. 5. it was okay for a few nights

Really nice hostel in a good location. Was a bit quiet with it being off season but still really easy to meet people. Roof terrace was a nice bonus.

Very nice stay at Hakuna Matata! Highly recommended for those who want to stay in the centre and meet fellow travellers
