The hostel was disgusting, smelly sheets and the bathroom was gross. There was also bugs everywhere. Don’t sleep here if you’re looking to sleep more than 10 minutes, the dogs bark ALL night right outside the door so aggressively I was actually scared. With the security (if you can call it that) I wouldn’t be surprised if the dogs got in. The windows don’t lock and there are so many gaps within the shaky building it wouldn’t even stand rain. Nice hostel in the heights but not much to do or see and very small dorms I also regret that as guests of the hostel we have to systematically pay an extra tax if we eat at the restaurant of the hostel
Nice relaxing venue with a great ethos. Lovely food with great portion sizes, at a reasonable price. 10min walk from the centre. More of a working hostel. Would recommend if staying in San Juan. They have free stuff included but don’t advertise very well, so when you arrive have a good read of what’s available eg bee tours etc. Some more hammocks/things to do there would be good.
Don’t stay here!! PROS: showers are actually amazing especially for an eco hostel. Dry toilets are ok but they’re a bit far from the dorm. CONS: staff isn’t the nicest, absolutely no atmosphere (i wasn’t expecting much of one for an eco hostel but still), dogs barked all night and I was woken up by the workers blasting music and talking at 8:30am, the “hostel” aspect is clearly their last priority. I usually don’t give bad reviews but I needed to warn people.
lovely onsite restaurant serving delicious food wherever you need it, host was welcoming and accomodating, private room was spacious, location is a bit out of the way. overall a nice stay, good place to relax and recharge.

Nous avons également réalisé un tour "culture" hyper complet et riche avec Francisco dans San Juan, un artiste et guide local. Nous avons vraiment adoré !

Très bel hostel, calme et propre. Les dortoirs sont grands et la cuisine aussi. Par contre c’est vraiment loin du centre. Le chemin pour s’y rendre n’inspire pas beaucoup la sécurité, il y a beaucoup de chiens errants
Very nice hostel, quiet and clean. the dormitories are large and the kitchen too. however it is really far from the center. the path to get there does not inspire much security, there are many stray dogs
I loved the place I wished I had more time to be in Atitlán to enjoy this place, the prices were a bit high but consistent with the area, everything in this building was green, recyclable, reusable, the best place if you wanna get away from the city
Schönes Hostel mit großen Garten und schönen Schlafsaal. Die Lage ist etwas abgelegen und wenn man abends alleine ankommt aufgrund der vielen Hunde etwas unangenehm. Aber sonst ist alles super. Das Frühstück dort ist seehr empfehlenswert!!
Nice hostel with large garden and nice bedroom. the location is somewhat remote and if you arrive alone in the evening it is a bit unpleasant due to the many dogs. but otherwise everything is great. the breakfast there is seehr recommended!!
The whole night you hear dogs barking and I had to leave a key deposit. Outside of that it was a nice spot

I absolutely loved the place. So did my daughter. The food was exquisite and affordable. The folks there were so kind and helpful. The solar showers and composting toilets were brilliant. We made friend after friend. I will not soon forget the entire adventure. And, it was an adventure! Pearl and Evelyn were among the many standouts! Thank you so much!!! We'll see you again. Michael
Great relaxing stay
we had a lovely stay at Mayachik, the room and facilities are amazing and Evelyn the host went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. would highly recommend!
We immediately extended our stay here from 3 nights to 4. The staff are lovely, the resultant tasty and great value, and the view from our room was incredible. It is abit of a walk from the boats, but it makes for a lovely quite escape from the bustle in town. Showers were great, and the best composting toilets I've used. Couldn't recommend this spot more.

The hostel is perfect. The staff was really nice. The dorm was clean, enough space for everyone, 2 bathrooms with showers within the 8 bed dorm, private lockers, eco toilet. You can reach everything by foot. Nothing more than 15min walk. I highly recommend this hostel if you want to stay in San Juan La Laguna :)

We had a wonderful stay in MayAchik! It’s a lovely place a bit further away from the touristy area and fully surrounded by nature. All facilities are clean, the food is delicious and the people are very friendly and helpful. We did the long hike (2h) to Rostro Maya with one of their guides and really enjoyed the whole tour. On the way down, we walked past some corn and coffee plantations with some beautiful views on the lake. We would highly recommend staying in this place !!

The staff here were so lovely and the food in the restaurant was great. It was a shame that there were no lockers in the dorm rooms for valaubles and the place is quite a walk away from San Juan. It is, however, a lovely place to relax and detox for a few days.
Abgesehen von der Lage die am Rande von San Juan ist, ist dieses Hostel einmalig. Es ist sehr ruhig, aber auch in der Off-Season trifft man auf gleichgesinnte Solotravelers. Das Hostel hat ein eigenes Restaurant mit Veggie-Küche, eine Lavandería und bietet diverse Touren an. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und man fühlt sich fast wie in einem Hotel. Die Toiletten sind sauber und stinken überhaupt nicht, wie man es von Trockentoiletten erwarten würde. Ganz große Empfehlung!!
Apart from the location which is on the outskirts of San Juan, this Hostel is unique. It is very quiet, but even in the Off-Season one meets like-minded SoloTravelers. The Hostel has its own Restaurant with Veggie-Küche, eine Lavandería and offers various tours. The staff is very friendly and you feel fast like in a hotel. The toilets are clean and do not smell at all, as one would expect from dry toilets. Very great recommendation!!
We really enjoyed our stay, only thing notable was about the time it took to get our dishes at the restaurant. We waited almost an hour for a plate of pasta and we were alone in the place. Also on the day we left we had to take a shuttle at 5am, the receptionist told us he would come with us in the morning to show us where to go, we waited but he never showed up, we ended up going by ourselves… Overall the place is amazing, it’s more about the staff i guess, although they’re very nice.

The hostel is nice and the staff is friendly and helpful. The only thing that could be better is the check-in, since they didn't show us around, so we only knew after 3 days that there was a kitchen we could actually use. The restaurant closes super early as well.
We had a nice stay in the ladybug room. The toilets are compost toilets but do not smell bad at all, and the shower was nice and warm. There are also a couple of hammocks to hang out in which was really relaxing. We got breakfast here and the food was delicious. The only downside is that this hostel is far from the town center.
Personnel très accueillant et aidant. La propriété est un petit paradis un peu à l'extérieur de la plus belle ville du lac Atitlan (village très facilement accessible).Les ateliers de tissage et de cuisine proposés par l'hôtel valent la peine. Bon restaurant.
The property is a small paradise just outside the most beautiful town on Lake Atitlan (village very easily accessible).The weaving and cooking workshops offered by the hotel are worth it.Good restaurant.
